ITT: Describe the kind of music you want to make/listen to, other anons with similar musical ideals propose collaborations, share ideas, give recs etc.

>The song structures of Genesis, Yes, GY!BE
>The textural timbres and instruments of The Flower Kings, Animal Collective, MGMT
>The humour of Mr Bungle, Cardiacs, Crotchduster
>The English cultural references of Caravan, early Genesis and Pink Floyd (in a style similar to Sufjan Stevens)
>The optimistic outlook and vocal harmonies of Moon Safari and Klaatu

Pic unrelated
>>
>Similar synth sounds like on Dots and Loops
>A combination of grand orchestration and electronics in a pop structure like on The Age of Adz
>Use of beats, hopefully sounding like Arca
>>
>super saccharine melodies of Sophie
>maximalist approach to production a la TNGHT
>wonky. as. fuck.
>>

>>52244365
>>52244405
JHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA
>>
>brilliant noise rock like hella - church gone wild
>noisy pop of deerhoof
>free improvisation
>shouted lyrics from jerkcity over the top
>stylophone and shitty casio keyboards
>>
>early sleigh bells-esque noise pop
>female vocals
>sludgy thick basslines, frequent use of off-kilter wonky flylo style drums
>pixies-ish chord progressions
>bursts of offensive noise every now and then
>>
>>52244466
I'm down to make something like Hella. what instruments you play? down to make something over the internet?
>>
>>52244480
do it bro, I'll buy it
>>
>>52244466
>shouted lyrics from jerkcity over the top

dude yes please
>>
>>52244208
Songs structured similarly to Rifts by OPN, but with BOC type sampling and tape saturation, with some light John Oswald influence.
>>
>long repetitive tracks
>a constantly repeating theme or melody
>like The Disintegration Loops or Visiting Friends by Animal Collective
>>
I have a few
>Chiptune, but with a combination of actual synths and chips, and with the actual chiptunes leaning more towards old Japanese computer games instead of more fucking LSDj bullshit
>IDM structures with a lot of glitches and wonky things with the beat
>Cyberpunk atmosphere, so lots of 80's synths in the background a la Ghost In the Shell or Blade Runner

Or
>Jazzy hip-hop
>As in, very much jazz but with a good beat going
>Throws in some elements to give it a darker atmosphere like gritty, nasty basslines, distorted vocals/instruments, etc
>>
>>52244504
i'd love to but i need a female vocalist to yell shit
preferably a bassist too
>>
>>52244529
Your second one seems tricky. I don't know if it could be done without sounding sort of cheesy like BBNG.
>>
I want to make math rock that is so chaotic that it borders on free-jazz. I'm totally committed and have plenty of ideas but its something that you'd need to practice and jam out with a live band and tfw no band and obviously nobody is really into my stupid obscure bullshit
>>
>>52244486
I play guitar and drums mainly, as well as bass (but not as good). I would also be able to produce the album. PM me through Facebook at /cashewmusic and we can exchange some stuff/, but I can't start recording until after Xmas.
>>52244505
I STICK MY PRICK IN THE PHONEBOOK

>>
>>52244551
I can be the little girl tonight if you want, Rozwell-san
>>
>post-punk art rock
>minimalist/futuristic aesthetic
>dissonant yet focused melodies
>paranoid white-boy lyrics that never take themselves too seriously
>band sounds like its wound too tightly or something
>>
>Structures of Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, GY!BE, Opeth
>Flutes, synths or bowed string are ok
>About social criticism, introspection, feelings
>Soft, quiet voice
>>
>>52244553
Yeah, that's the issue I keep running into whenever I try to do something with it.

It'll happen someday though, man. It's gotta.
>>
>>52244557
I have always wanted to do this, but have had the same problems.

Oh and I forgot
>Singer-songwriter type stuff with an outdoor mountain-type atmosphere like Mount Eerie
>Plays around with elements of background noise like the opener on Mount Eerie but also with minimalistic type shoegaze elements like Planning for Burial and changes in volume to make it sound like the singer is enveloped in a storm

I dunno this one isn't as clear but I feel like this would be really awesome if I did it right
>>
>>52244575
So sort of like I Talk To The Wind?

I would listen to it.
>>
experimental glitch music

also anything like Ghettoville by Actress
>>
>>52244662
Yes, King Crimson really influenced me
>>
>>52244641
That sounds awesome.
>changes in volume to make it sound like the singer is enveloped in a storm
Would be great if it could be pulled off properly and not end up sounding cheesy.

I've always wanted to make long, droning tracks with gurgling synths like the song "I see you pan" off of AnCo's Holinndagain, but I'm so musically uninformed that I don't know where I would even start.
>>
>>52244641
>groovy as fuck synth driven noisepop
>Jazzy noisy drums like the first anco album
>tenor vocals

>>
>>52244208
>emotionally charged post rock-ish or experimental rock outsider songs (and in some places, think early AnCo) tied together by separate ambient/electronic/noise tracks
>for example, noise/ambient/whatever type sounds start, then overdubbed instruments begin overtop of this ambient/noise/electronic/whatever segue between the tracks, forming the main cohesive song (similar to places on Loveless)
>all songs are connected like this
>has an unpolished feel to it due to my cluttered style of playing since I never really focused on improving my musical abilities since I was too distracted making music I wanted to while I was growing up. However I have very specific production on my songs, despite it maybe not sounding like it.
>due to my limited resources and lack of knowledge, this is recorded in a very lo-fi setup. I like this because it's easier to not have production that sounds like shit this way (I refuse to have a bad mix between unnaturally clean sounding midi instruments and obviously home recorded material which sounds bad most of the time). Right now I am just using portable recorders for every recording and layering the overdubs on top of them using only Reaper
>just to get off onto my feet just so that I have some sort of recorded output! the album I'm somewhat making now is more or less all taken from recorded improvisations; this is the starting points for the songs. I have more organized songs written already, but I'm too unorganized to focus on this right now and also would probably rather have these recorded in a professional setup
>>52244466
I love this
If you and >>52244486 do something I want in.
>>52244480
>pixies style chord progressions
Yes
>>
>>52244739
nah not rly.
>>
>>52244528
Also yes
My problem with this is just condensing my long jams (since I get OCD about what to keep and what to cut) and then what to put where on a potential album track listing
>>
>>52244574
I could be down to make something like this. I play bass if you want to make some music over the internet.
>>
>>52244879
Your description reminds me a little of Deerhoof - Cryptograms, but more ambitious. If you want in on the shenanigans, PM me on Facebook at /cashewmusic
>>
>>52244752
Ur good my mane

>>52244712
T-thanks Anon

But yeah my concerns with that were not making it sound cheesy and not making one element drown out the other. And of course not just making Mount Eerie But Different

can I just say, this is a really nice thread.
>>
>>52244718
>musically uninforme
Not kidding, this might be a good thing if this AnCo album is the kind of thing you want to do. Having an outsider approach can create things that would never of been able to have come from any other person.
>>
>>52244912
You'd need a professional to mix and master it, that's for sure.
>>52244935
This. The album came out of a few friends in college pissing about.
>>
>recurring themes of Twin Fantasy and just got back from the discomfort, and same lofi atmosphere
>glitch electronics of age of adz
>bass driven melodies of joy division
>>
>>52244911
I literally might do that
Never actually listened to much Deerhoof. I listened to Microcastle but I feel like by the time I heard it I had already moved past that structure of songs. It sucks though because it's obviously really really good, I just don't get into it as much anymore, now I just do weird shit because I can't help but make masturbatory-like music out of necessity for my mental health.
>>
Vocals:
>little anime girl vocals, like múm
>female screams
>death growls
>black metal shrieks
>operatic bass or baritone

Instrumentation:
>feedback heavy
>downtuned
>found objects
>contact microphones
>folk instruments
>extensive use of samples, musical and non-musical
>keyboards and pianos
>sludgy bass lines and guitar playing
>soft bleep-bloops
>synthetic and electronic drums mixed with normal drum playing
>string instruments
>mellotron sounds

Structure:
>heavily contrasting harsh and soft sections
>spoken word interludes
>piano interludes
>crescendoes

Lyrics:
>tragic, political, satirical, or darkly humorous
>sometimes sung in other languages, because why the hell not

>>52244998
>Deerhoof
Holy nigger I meant Deerhunter. But yeah, Microcastle is a pretty good album. I prefer Halcyon Digest personally.

SO many different things I want to make.
Acoustic math-gaze
Freak folk in the vein of sung tongs AnCo
Drawn out hazy psychedelic pop loops

Let me know if you're interested because I'm already trying to do these on my own.

Somebody finish the freak folk track with me. Please because it's pretty good because I don't know how to take it from here. Only a minute long

>the poppy, kinda oriental sound of Mick Karn's synth work in Japan and Dali's Car
>the fast paced harmonica of Suicide Blonde from INXS
>the slow and heavy guitar sound from Jesus and Mary Chan
>the lyrical wit of The Smiths
>use of exotic instruments from other countries

>Deep, complex concepts and storylines.
>Short melodic ideas used to represent characters, things or situations, e. g. leitmotifs.
>Transformation of themes where the music undergoes changes to mirror a situation.
>Creative use of instruments to evoke moods, places, images, ideas, etc.
>Maybe some sound effects and field recordings to help create the atmosphere.

Kinda like a tone poem with a rock structure.

If anyone knows an album or band that employs similar ideas, let me know.
>>
>>52245063
Fuck I actually meant Deerhenter too phaha
Here's my soundcloud. Like I said the idea is that I'd overdub other instruments but I keep perpetually putting this off.

Check out the three most recent.
I'm kind of into droney stuff and Throbbing Gristle right now, though this stuff was recorded before I explored Throbbing Gristle again.

Fucko the Clown has been in like 5 "make a fictional band thread and post facts/history about them".

Some guy made a paragraph about how Fucko the clown went on a rampage after being possessed by Hitler or some shit and conquered half the world until he faced his inner demons.
