Isn't this AUTO guy one of the most technically advanced producers in the genre? The resulting sounds are very intriguing and diverse, much unlike other "producers" who always sample the same obvious 80s r'n'b stuff over and over again.

try to get familiar with the basics first.
>>
>>52174963
While the music might sound incredibly dull and basic by itself, when you put it into context it becomes something new, basically a whole genre that functions as a piece of conceptual art. That and once you get into it it starts sounding kinda nice, it's its own thing and can't really be explained, only experienced.

this >>52175256 is not a good starting point.

this >>52175048 is. after that, james ferraro 'far side virtual' and macintosh plus 'floral shoppe'. then you've heard your basic /mu essentials. even if you don't like those albums very much, you should at least be familiar with them. then explore.

>james ferraro 'far side virtual'
hm, i don't get all the hype around this ferraro guy. well he might be influential and conceptual as fuck and all, but musically it's still shit to me. can't even get halfway through fsv because it literally gives me steady headache (maybe it was meant like this on purpose?). all other kinds of musical output from him are also evokes some kinds of aversion.

>>52175961
" The last note of my record will be the sound of the uninterested listener disposing the album into the trash bin and emptying out their desktop's trash bin."
It's deliberately a very hard to swallow album, and its purpose is way more conceptual than musical. It does serve as a precursor to vaporwave's ideas about consumer culture and the disposability of music. It's not really an album you just put on in the background or just put on for casual enjoyment.

now that i think of it this note kind of provides a new outlook to it. i'll try to give it one more chance with that in mind. oh, and the artwork is what i like the most about it.

IMMUNE// - Night Visions was a really good and unique album in my opinion, probably one of my albums of the year
>>
can someone rec something like blank banshee? is blank banshee considered vaporwave?
>>
>>52176291
If you want to truly 'get' fsv, you should check out this interview with ferraro about the album
http://thequietus.com/articles/07586-james-ferraro-far-side-virtual-interview

I also didn't enjoy it at all the first time I listened to it, but after a few listens it 'clicked' and now I really appreciate what it was trying to do in a stale and predictable musical environment.
>>
>>52174870
AUTO is great, he is kind of overlooked I think.

>>52176396
I listened to that last night and thought it was pretty nice. I haven't heard much vaporwave like it before. Going to give it a few more spins over the next week.
>>
>>52176451
he's not vaporwave.

Vaperror - Mana Pool
Subaeris - Dreams Love Chaos City

They're the closest ones I've heard to the Blank Banshee sound and great in their own ways, but still kind of different. BB is one of a kind.

BB1&2 and those two albums mentioned are more vaportrap than vaporwave, but it depends on whether you consider vaportrap to be "true" vaporwave or not. There's no real definition of what vaporwave is anyway, it's kind of a loose term.

Not even close.
>much unlike other "producers" who always sample the same obvious 80s r'n'b stuff over and over again.
What? Auto is pretty much the definition of boring future funk. All those videos were that obvious 80s RnB where he basically just slowed it down, lowpassed it, and put a little delay on one of them.
