That was my opinion on it too. People need to stop looking at it as a true Pink Floyd album and rather as a collection of work that Pink Floyd created, and appreciate it for what it is. At that point, it's an average record, but there certainly are enjoyable moments. The first side is really good.

Pom Pom came out of nowhere for me, really great album and it was my first time listening to Ariel Pink. Top 3 are probably TBK, C-93 and Ariel Pink, with the Jenny Hval and Grouper album being strong contenders. Freddie Gibbs is Hip-Hop aoty, was kind of let down by RTJ2 even though it had some great tracks and I saw them live and they were amazing. Here's hoping for a new burial release this month.

Sorry, I wouldn't use any of those adjectives to describe her incredible knack for pop songwriting complete with incredibly catchy and pleasing melodies throughout the album. Aiming to write songs that can be liked universally is nothing to be ashamed of.
The argument can be made that music itself is 'overdone'. Like any genre, pop music is filled with cliches.
What I find excellent about Taylor Swift's latest album is that her pop music and her ability to create it has stepped to a level beyond the vapid, simplistic, and trite cavalcade of pop singers-rarely-songwriters desperately trying to get on (and stay in) the Top 40. The album is like a raised standard bar for how good pop music should be to compete nowadays.
