/mu/ I've taken a real shine to music of the 80's. There's something about it that really creates a certain comfortable melancholy, coupled with an energy at the same time. It's very cozy. Attached to this post is a list of the most 80's-sounding music I know of. Some of them are not produced in the eighties, but create the similar feeling typically found in a 80's track.

I hope I'm not too much of a pleb and that you will help me fill up the list with all of your suggestions. Thanks!

Why is 80s synth music associated with Miami so much? Is it solely because of Vice City?

Miami Vice also. And I'd suspect that the United States was becoming something of a holiday resort for the Europeans off the west coast, and because we're suckers for beaches and shorelines, Miami FL was the biggest commodity.

You saw it featured a lot in 80's TV and Cinema.

It's amazing just how much of an impression this sort of music has made. I was unable to have them come to mind when making my list, but when I listen the recommendations, it floods back to me like nostalgia.

I've heard and loved these songs before, and it makes me feel stupid when I wonder why I didn't include them. Thanks guys, your suggestions are all gold.

Keep 'em coming!

Not everyone has heard of a small number of the songs posted, even then, a lot of them are freshly remembered and invoke a comforting nostalgia.

It's half the reason why people listen to music from the 1980's. It's been 34 years. Most high-production synth and wave have had over three decades to gain momentum and popularity. It's unavoidable.

Interesting track dude. Thanks for sharing. Was surreal hearing the synth creep in that the 80's capitalized on mixed with the remaining lyricism of the 70's punk era. What a crazy blend.

I think the 80s in its most pure form manifests itself in italo/euro disco.

One of the neat things about the 80s is you can see the change in musical tecnhology so quickly. In the early 1980s, there were still real instruments, along with analog synthesizers and drum machines. In the mid 80s, they used a combination of analog and digital synthesizers and sample based drum machines, and by the end it was basically all digital. You don't see the same change in technology today, you do see changes in production techniques and aesthetics, but we're basically using the same instruments as we were 10 years ago.
