What other label can I put on this, since "indie rock" doesn't really mean anything anymore? "Alternative" is outdated, and I feel people think of mainstream acts from the late 90s that got lots of radio play when they hear that word, and "rock" is too broad.

Derivative is a great description. How else do you communicate that a band has latched onto the success of their idols and relies on that as the source for all of their shallow creativity?
>>

It's the fact that the term is usually used as the only criticism of a band, and that it is used so frequently and often incorrectly that probably pisses people off.

Just curious, do you really think everyone that says 'tryhard' on /mu/ is trolling? I hardly ever see it used in that sense, and generally see it used in a serious sense. If I don't know the area of music being discussed, I'll be wary, but if I know the area I'll be able to distinguish. Do you not have a good troll radar or something? How long have you been on here?

Why the fuck do you think a word becomes a "buzzword"? People overuse it to the point of inaccuracy.
>>
>>51472987
Truth in every lie, Mr. Tripfag. Legitimate buzzwords become such because people recognize a new way to describe something they're already familiar with in an accurate fashion that sheds more light on the nature of the thing itself. Then, there are troll buzzwords, like 'memerap.' The buzzword 'tryhard' is a legitimate criticism.

Bait isn't a normative statement of "this artist is good," are you dense? Tycho happens to be relatively polarizing because some worship him as the god of chillout electronic music but others, like you, see him as bland. Which is a legitimate criticism, as I have defended.

>>
>>51473251

Kek. The interesting thing about this is that you end up agreeing with me that the words you initially discarded as non-criticisms like 'bland' and 'derivative' are actually legitimate, given that your reference to Tycho is now apparently _not_ bait, but instead legitimate dislike using those exact words. Might want to stop posting.
>>
>>51473261
Yeah normal people can pick up in a conversation when you mean objective facts or subjective opinions. However most denizens of /mu/ are cripplingly autistic and can't pick up on that and assumes no one else can either.

>Second of all, no rational person worth conversing with would tell someone that music criticism is objective.
You can describe the music in an objective way that reveals what you dislike subjectively.
>>
>>51473361
because you're creating an identity on a mongolian string bean photo forum is silliness, and either trolling, or attention-seeking of a different sort.
>>
>>51473361
The backpedaling occurred after I pointed out that you ended up using the exact initial words you supposedly dislike in music criticism to illustrate your dislike for Tycho, which you said is not bait.

I'm not fixated on your tripcode. It's pretty common practice to heckle tripfags for having one, but after a post or two we got down to real conversation. You just have to weather it.

You cannot describe something objectively that implies subjectivity. "This piece is in a minor key" does not imply depressing, etc. it is simply a statement of fact.
>>
>objectively
Motherfucker music is subjective. For every person that upholds a song for a reason they deem objectively superior, ten more will call it objectively awful for that same reason. It's just a way for pretentious faggots to pretend their taste in music is somehow of higher quality than the rest.
