I find the vinyl fetish, in a genre that presents itself as progressive, weird.
>>
>>51255088
>hurr durr vinyl is old

mate it's integral to the genre/scene because of djs and dubplates etc

it's like saying it's stupid that 'progressive rock' is trying to be progressive but theyre using guitars, lol but guitars are well old!

be reasonable now fam
>>
American scum fuck off
>>
>>51255136
Why is it integral?
FLAC files sound better, are more versatile, take up almost no space and don't degrade.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gES9e6p4tr0
>>
>>51255205
>why do rock bands use guitars
Because it's hard to get the same sound with a different interface, especially when you want to improvise. A big part of it however is irrational fetish and the subconscious phallic symbolism of the guitar. I grant you that.

>Brings back memories of the days I'd snort a bit of rustle-dust and drop a clarkie cat or two, go raving and come back to a plate of cake. It was fun for a while but being a custard-gannet has it's drawbacks-I was so monged one night I throw a saucepan out of the window and it brained a passer-by. He came up and did me a severe physical discourtesy, and I knew then it was time to get out. I wish I'd listened to Bernard Manning and Rolf Harris and stayed well away from the nightmare that is cake.

i knew i recognized the tune name. yeah source direct were pretty top when it came to break manipulation. still doesn't come close to that shy fx album in my opinion. like, it's still good but i would know how to recreate it. it's just clever choppage more than anything else. and their mixdowns were a bit shit.

listen to it if you haven't, it really is incredible what they were able to achieve on such limited equipment. and t-power - the self evident truth of an intuitive mind. both of those have some serious science happening.
>>
>>51256437
Hokusai is the best SD alias, Jade / Sculptures Hide is easily one of the best 12" ever.
Also Black Rose is one of Kode9's favorites, makes sense since it's amazing.

Yeah, that release was downright awesome. I liked Terekke since yyyyyyy, but it was perhaps leaning too much towards ambient.
I can't wait now for the stuff he posted on SC to be released.

Have you also been through his stuff as Enforce Team? 'L1' is nice, perhaps too long and weird in the end, but that's the kind of lush, dreamy sound I love.

I have listened to both, several times. That T. Power album was in particular very far ahead of it's time. The Shy FX album just makes his current state so much worse, he went from GOAT to pretty much total shit. Still doesn't top this for me though.

what do you think of this btw?

i made this like, real quick a while ago in a night and kind of got frustrated with the how meh the mixdown and how the actual music was kind of forgettable so i dropped it. this breaks talk kind of got me inspired to pick it up again. jungle is quite a trendy genre at the minute as well so i might try and work on it a bit lel . i think theres some half decent ideas there if i actually fleshed it out a little and made it a bit more into a song. i've learned a bit more since.

>>51257415
Be warned, I am a musical plebian so I cannot offer and actual worthwhile advice.

It sounded like the sort of soulful roller you would get on the B-side of an 'intelligent Jungle' kind of release. I usually prefer my Jungle to be faster:

Everyday I'm getting more and more convinced I am developing ADD or something because if something isn't 160+BPM I get bored of it real easily.

i was going for that sort of thing. mournful jungle was the idea, i was trying to find some suitable vocals for it... but like i said. i did it in a night. i'm not happy with the way it 'drops' either, it just wasn't what i was going for but it kind of happened. it sounds a bit jump up-ish. obviously not completely but in terms of structure. i wanted to make it a bit more song-like than a complete club ban3r but i have terrible composition skills.

don't know if my ears are just tired but that snare sounds like it's had the life/transients crushed out of it.

bass is meh. in a serviceable way tho. like it's nice that the track's so open that the bass can have that much low end presence but it's just like

>'that's a bass sound. sounded cool when the break first dropped in with it but then it's just like...y'know... a bass. w/e/'

if nothing else it needs a bit of dirt. i like a bit of dirt. not like reecey garbage. just like sandpaper dirt.

mournful pads bleh.
the little synth melody is more interesting - sounds like it's in the same region as the pads. i imagine they don't play nice together.

needs dirt.
and a bit of atmosphere.
and clever sound design tricks.
and a hook.
maybe a big fucking kick. everything needs a big fucking kick in 2014.

breaks are chopped up fine doe.

Well, let's get another opinion-poll going

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA0t6ErCtus
>>
>>51257989
thanks for the feedback.

i did really squash that snare, but parallel to the source signal in order to counter-act it. i think vocaroo exasperates that.only problem was without squashing the transients in that way the snare just kind of fizzled out and didn't have any kind of body to it. i think it's a question of getting the release times nicer and more of a mix between the two. like i said, i've been reading a lot about that sort of stuff recently. i made that tune a good while ago now.

and yeah, in regards to the actual music... thats why i dropped it. it was just a bit generic in a lot of ways. but i still kind of like the idea of it, if i was to revisit it that structure would be scrapped, and there would be some more elements working together. and something more interesting bassline wise because it's just total crap at the minute, and it doesn't flow very nicely. i think the main reason it sounds so empty is because i was trying to find a nice vocal to go with it, but i never did in the end. like, i literally made it in a night so don't judge me too hard!

i thought a did a pretty decent job of the atmosphere prior to the break coming in! i might run those reverby hisses through paulstretch just so it's less obviously sequenced. i like it when stuff sounds more organic. but i was pretty pleased with that dark rumble atmosphere thing i had going.

vinyl release and CD/WEB release are different. CD/WEB has some tracks not on the vinyl and the vinyl has them in a different order, if i remember correctly. check discogs though
