So you want bad music beloved by 16 year old hipsters?

I'll do you one better and give you some actually good Japanese artists.

Starting with Number Girl. Seminal post-hardcore group. They are very strong songwriters. Super influenced by Pixies and Husker Du on earlier releases, later releases later add in post-punk and funk influences. Their second and last albums are their best imo. The general consensus is that the first is the worst.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=239Ze1AlkKg
www.youtube.com/watch?v=05fruBXGEPk

The frontman of Number Girl formed Zazen Boys after NG broke up. They released 2 albums that are very Beefheart-y (Zazen Boys I and Zazen Boys III). Zazen Boys II is mostly math rock with funk influences. Zazen Boys 4 is synth funk 80's throwback. Good shit.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt6r1d3oBdg
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz9nCQi-TmY
>Incredible feels on that last track. Once listened to it while watching the sunrise, high on amphetamines.

Spiral Chord is another good one - Really obscure/underrated garage rock. Features the bassist for Number Girl.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yqf81IO10U

Frontman of Spiral Chord fronted Cowpers before Spiral Chord happened. Their first album (Lost Days) is garage-y punk. Their second on is Drive Like Jehu worship - Really good Drive Like Jehu worship at that.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KweoaE3f4uY

Bloodthirsty Butchers are highly underrated. They're obviously influenced by the late 80's/early 90's American underground. Their frontman (who was married to the guitarist from Number Girl, incidentally) is dead. Kocorono is basically the Japanese Zen Arcade and it's a shame that it's not discussed on /mu/ as much as, say, the least interesting Midori album (ahem).

My personal absolute favorite is Shiina Ringo. Her music is so unique and diverse.

Unfortunately there isn't much on youtube as Japan likes to take it down. This one is pretty good... the intro to the album Karuki Samen Kuri No Hana. This is the album that got me into her in the first place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tE-ybWpV3c

My favorite track by her is Tsumi to Batsu - in particular, the version she performed at Ringo Expo 08. If I could go back in time to see any live concert it would be that one.

What's the point of making a thread with music from a certain country if it isn't traditional music?
Like, this is essentially saying "YEAEH UH JUST POST ANY MUSIC", shit man, specify a genre or something at least so the thread serves a purpose.

It took me under 2 hours to remember all of the, admittedly few, Korean alphabet –from knowing absolutely nothing. I did it by romanising entire sentences written in Hangul. While I was learning Japanese, I tried a similar method to how you're currently doing it and I found it quite dull and not all that efficient. I recommend giving the first method a try; it's more engaging and starts off hard –at first, you'll be constantly referring to your notes, but you'll soon pick up the pace.

They don't have much on Youtube (including what I think are their best songs), but their best albums are "zeitgeist" (which is my favourite) and "To (melt into)". They have a new album but I haven't listened to it properly yet.

the problem is you jerks are just looking for shit that sounds like every other western band you listen to but are from Japan so you can act obscure and shit.

if you actually took 5minutes to sit down and appreciate fine Japanese culture, you might be turned onto some real shit

Try some Misaki Iwasa:

man, namasensei has been successfully trolling people into wasting their time for too many years now.

writing kana n-many times does jack shit for memorization, only handwriting. your goal isn't to write japanese well, it's to READ japanese well. the more you practice reading the better you'll comprehend. put your jap music library on shuffle and read every fucking title (hopefully you're not a plebeian who romanizes all their japanese tags). this method is the best because spaced repetition systems are a tried and proven method to easily memorize anything, and if you're forcing yourself to read a string of japanese every few minutes, you'll pick it up pretty quickly.

make quick guesses without stopping. read the entire word/title (ignoring kanji) and make a best effort to understand what it says. then if you're really unsure if what you read was correct go put it in a romanization engine or check it against some printed kana tables. make mental notes of which kana fuck you up the worst and make mnemonics for them. (i liked to imagine i was in love with a girl named さち because together they form a heart, and i no longer confused the two).

i learned kana quickly with my music library. my goal was to be able to read the song titles of music i enjoy so i can remember them, and guess what, because i know what they look like and how to read them i can also write them without difficulty. so there.

Oh let's be real, most of the people listening to idol music are more interested in how the idols look/dance/behave irl than the actual music itself. And considering these people are the ones buying their releases, idols cater to them by putting more effort .

There are probably exceptions of course, but they are rare.

You seriously need to get your ears checked if you think idol music that that anon (or maybe you) posted is on the same level as e.g. Susumu's from >>51106322.

I there's more to it than shipping. I remember someone saying the reason japanese editions often have bonus tracks is to give japanese buys incentive to buy the japanese release because otherwise everyone would just order internationally to save money.
