I wonder why a label like Hessle never uses album art on EPs? I'm guessing it started as a cost thing then became a part of the brand

Anybody out tonight?
>>

where you off to?
>>
>>50911909
The weekend has landed. All that exists now is clubs, drugs, pubs and parties. I've got 48 hours off from the world, man. I'm gonna blow steam out my head like a screaming kettle, I'm gonna talk cod shit to strangers all night, I'm gonna lose the plot on the dancefloor. The free radicals inside me are freakin', man! Tonight I'm Jip Travolta, I'm Peter Popper, I'm going to never-never land with my chosen family, man. We're gonna get more spaced out than Neil Armstrong ever did, anything could happen tonight, you know? This could be the best night of my life. I've got 73 quid in my back burner - I'm gonna wax the lot, man! The Milky Bars are on me! Yeah!
>>
>>50911909
Ill try to get into berghain. Should be an epic night
>>
>>50911909
Nope.

I'm heading to some big electronic sorta thing for the first time tonight.

B) Americans are stupid and easily led, you can get them interested in anything if you make it cool enough
>>
>>50916558
Easier said than done my friend. You also have to get records imported from Europe (since most records stores don't sell that sort of thing in america) as well. Costwise, you're looking at probably over $2000 with no guarantee that people will show up. There are really not many means of promotion in America like there are in the UK. There aren't many clubs that aren't strictly EDM, there's no Resident Advisor, FACTmag, or Rinse FM. There's just not much of a scene for that kind of thing except maybe small ones in big cities like NYC or LA, but most anywhere else, forget it.
>>

Atlanta had a fairly thriving DnB scene from the late 90s to the late 2000s. It sort of fell apart around the EDM boom. Most parties, and record labels for that matter, lose money or just about break even
Many big DJs still have to hold down 9 to 5s to survive
You do it out of love, not because you sniff a business opportunity - look what happened to fabric after matter shut down, and it's fucking fabric
>>
>>50917609
>They don't sell paper in the US?
The only newspaper that still sells well is the New York Times
>There's no such thing as a social network? People can't talk to each other?
Sure there is, but there's no real resources for fans of this kind of music to get in touch with each. It's not like I can go down the to local record store and start chatting with people about the latest Amen Andrew EP or anything. For most of these people, dance music starts with Daft Punk and ends with Skrillex. Hell, the local store doesn't even sell anything that's not rock, hip-hop or Top 40.
>>
>>50917609
>You do have pirate radio you just haven't found it yet. You could also set it up yourself
You have no idea how strictly the FCC takes pirate radio. It's like it is in the UK. Pirate radio is almost non-existant in the US except in maybe border towns down south or inner city NYC. Most people I know stopped listening the radio in favor of Pandora, Spotify, etc. simply because one corporation bought up 95% of the frequencies in America and programs them to play the same things. The people that do listen to the radio just listen to top 40.
>>

Even my friends who are into music don't get any electronic music.

They'll listen to some 12 minute droning indie/noise bullshit that got a best new track from pitchfork, but whenever I put on some sort of dance music, they complain about how it's too repetitive and there's no lyrics.

And don't get me started on dubstep.
I literally had to explain to them about what dubstep was/the history of dubstep one day after I mentioned it as part of the genres I listened too and they remarked that it was "too noisy" and "Skrillex sucks". I played them some examples of Skream and DMZ, etc. and they just kept saying "Where's the drop?" Literally, they didn't care that they were wrong and were too stubborn to accept that dubstep could actually be something other than dubstep.

Yes. There good nights in New York, Los Angeles, maybe some scattered in Florida, Washington D.C., etc. That still doesn't mean that I'm going to be successful if I start a club night.

I think what most of you guys forget is just how fucking big America is. The United States is almost 40 times bigger than the entire United Kingdom and cities are spread out. Sure there are good club nights in densely populated areas like NYC and LA, but most of America is not like that at all. Hell, I live over a thousand miles away from both NYC and LA. The closest big city to where I live is 20 miles away and its population is only 600,000 people.

Except you are within an 1 to 2 hour drive of a decent club no matter where you are. Because America is so spread out, any regional scenes didn't have nearly as much impact on a large scale as the UK did. Now, many local scenes have completely died out because the internet offers free access to any and all types of music imaginable, negating the need to attend clubs, watch certain DJs perform, and/or frequent record stores in order to hear a certain type of music.

On top of that, mentioning the words "Electronic" or "Dance" together is a sure sign for disaster. Thanks to the media, the whole EDM craze has spawned drug scares about molly/MDMA and caused the general public to associate all electronic music with immoral behavior and heavy drug use.

So? That's bigger than Bristol or Manchester and I know people who go to those cities from further than 20 miles away on a weekend
>>
ok /bleep/ prepare for my unpopular opinions:
>Dubstep is shit, with the exception of one or two skrillex songs
>Trip-hop is shit (Even Burial and Massive Attack)
>UK Garage music is the best thing to come out of the 2000s and bands like the white stripes, the strokes, the libertines, and the arctic monkeys were defining bands of the decade
>Electronic music isn't a talentless genre (See: Deadmau5 and Daft Punk) but most people who make it are talentless hacks and it barely counts as music
>Daft Punk are actually really good and are deserve to be famous
>I don't think that songs without singing are good
>I think people who still download or own digital copies of music instead of just using spotify and youtube are stupid. And I think people who still buy physical music are even worse and are hipsters.

I'm saying that despite the fact that Bristol and Manchester may be smaller in population, keep in mind that America's total population is 6 times larger than England's. Also, Bristol and Manchester are well known for their local electronic scenes and musical contributions. In America, only Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles have had historically notable, influential, and highly active electronic scenes comparable to places in the UK.
>>
>>50919616
Not him but despite the big populations in cities in the U.S the music scenes can be shit.

I know it isn't easy. Maybe you should try to find a few people who are into bleeps too and like spend some nights just mixing and sharing tunes.
It can be the beginning of a "scene" in your city. Maybe not a big scene, but if you can have like 10-15 people that share your musical tastes it's already a good situation. Then it'll just grow, not much but it will.
Try to do something, I'm sure you can do it.
