it's just fun- most people here probably listen to their cassettes pretty infrequently. the ones i listen to often are from certain genres that i think are more fun on cassette like black metal or noise or certain kinds of really nostalgic drone or ambient stuff.
otherwise i buy because its cheaper than vinyl but lets me give a bit back to the artist. and aesthetically i think theyre cool. also a lot of the bands i like cant afford to put out a run of vinyl but still want to have something physical that is less soulless than a CD
i dont think tape fans do have the whole superior posturing that vinyl fans can sometimes have. people who are into tapes are usually at least a little bit aware that they sort of suck but like them anyways.

I started a tape collection mainly because over the summer I would go for long walks around town every day and kept passing these second hand shops and they sold a bunch of tapes
I thought starting another collection of another music medium would be fun, plus they're super cheap (unless they're rare, which is part of the fun)

I personally buy tapes from labels that specialize in tapes for the most part. Analog music recorded to tape for tape, and not released any other way. Plus they seem more personal Someone folded the insert and put in the little scraps of paper with the stamp that promotes the label. They numbered them, and they put love into it. That's part of it for me.
I don't pick up a lot of albums that get releases in other formats, if an album is released on vinyl I'll probably get that instead. But every once in a while an album kind of makes sense on cassette. It could be dark and brutal or airy and drifting, but sometimes the music compliments the medium, so there's that.
The limited runs are fun, and finding rare ones (just like with records) is kind of a thrill in itself.
