Only a few of the songs are really synth heavy. Most are just piano based which really isn't 80's sounding but I won't argue its amazingly original. I guess Grid starts off kinda generic but halfway through it gets more dynamic.

Absolutely, The Dance of the moon and the sun is considered essential from them. I think it's a far superior album.

Personally, I thought it was meh. Some really great songs, but a lot of useless filler. The high points of the album are really high, probably the best they've had in years, but the album as a whole falls flat.

I still don't know how I feel about that album. As an Andrew Bird album, it's weak. It's just not up to his caliber of stuff. But his caliber of stuff is so damn high that it's hard to objectively rank the album against other albums by other artists.
