I like Solid State Survivor, BGM and Technodelic better than the pop stuff tho.
A lot of the solo stuff, side projects and collaborations, production for other artists, etc. is top notch too.
What makes Japan such a big hub for music? I see western artists having Japanese releases, going on tour in Japan, and of course the sheer amount of music that comes out of Japan
What makes them so important?
>>50189757
well actually i think all of that stuff is pretty bad. its old.
This album is fucking amazing. Holy shit.
World music influenced, meditative prog rock.
Fuck.
>>50189803
Screamo / Post-Rock
So fucking good.
Electronic/Progressive Rock
>>50189823
God tier band in general, that's not even their best album, this is.
>>50189909
the early solo albums were kinda goofy sounding
>>50189757
>I like Solid State Survivor, BGM and Technodelic better than the pop stuff tho.
I love their whole discography. Seriously.
>A lot of the solo stuff, side projects and collaborations, production for other artists, etc. is top notch too.
I will agree with you 100% there. Some people have already mentioned some artists in this thread that only came about thanks to either Hosono, Sakamoto, or Takahashi.
and I wish Sakamoto a full recovery! no fucking way he will be taken from this earth just yet.
>>50189803
it's funny you think that, because i think most of new music is pretty bad, and prefer the old, especially anything Sakamoto/Hosono/Takahashi did from 77-84.
>>50190036
whats even funnier is that i dont even think that and have only ever listend to 3 singles by ymo
>>50190078
okay then.
>>50189180
>Paradise of Replica
>indie-rock
>>50190461
Yeah, I was iffy on that one but I'm not really sure what else to call it.
>>50188770
Uroboros is the shit
>>50190570
A lot of that stuff doesn't really fit into any neat genre.
>>50189787
Japan is (and was throughout the 20th century) the second-largest developed country in terms of population, behind the USA.
That their cultural output is significant shouldn't actually come as a surprise... but to tell the truth I haven't ever heard anyone acknowledge or quote this statistic before.
No Boris on here yet. I'm not doin' it.

>>50189079
bought it like a week ago on vinyl, didn't knew it but I took a risk because of the cover art

I really love Ghost's Hypnotic Underworld. It's possibly my favorite Japanese album ever. Do you know anything else I'd like based off it?
And not entirely related to the thread topic, but are there any non-Jap bands that had the same ideas going on?
what's a good japanese rap album?

This chart is hilariously bad and innacurate. Props for including Number Girl though, they don't get enough love everywhere.
>>50194737
This is actually pretty great. Japanese bargain bin core is so delicious.

Meh I dunno, I like their over the top style, reminds me of Melt Banana a bit (which are one of my favourite bands).
New album when?
>>50188770
Needs a section for traditional music, although I'm not sure if it would go into folk or not.
>>50189330

>>50189987
Did something happen to him that I missed?
