sully almost did it

but i still feel like theres so much more room for experimentation in jungle. revisiting that old template with updated production. apart from sully tho everything else i've heard is just doesn't get the feeling right and sounds like standard liquid with breaks in a 2-step pattern.

Dance music of the 1990s largely rejected the simple, jovial, hedonistic approach to body movement that had ruled since James Brown invented funk music in the 1960s. Disco, techno and house had simply imported new technologies (both for rhythm and arrangements) into the paradigm of funk. The 1990s continued that process, one of the most important ideas to come out of Britain was jungle or drum & bass, a syncopated, polyrhythmic and frantic variant of house, a fusion of hip-hop and techno that relied on extremely fast drum-machines, epileptic breakbeats and huge bass lines.

Few genres of popular music underwent so many changes and reached such ambitious heights as jungle did. Within a few years, jungle musicians were already composing abstract and ambient pieces, integrating breakbeats with pop vocals, adopting jazz improvisation Thanks to ever more intricate beats and to free structures borrowed from jazz, jungle music rapidly became the foundation for a new kind of avantgarde music, pursued by the most austere of the genre's visionaries

yeh, like right off the bat, this thing suffers because of the low quality rip. really muddy at points, audible artefacting n all.

but yeah, this is not 11 tracks of objekt ep-tier bangers. not even close. there's a lot that's squarely aimed at non-floor consumption. it all sounds very objekt-y though still. post-ep3 objekt specifically.

it might just be the rip, but some of that hyper-detail you hear on something like ganzfeld is missing here. like he didn't spend his usual 100+ hrs/track on these.

i'm disappointed but mostly because i wanted some straight bangers... there's attempts at them: ratchet is like the b-side to ganzfeld, strays got some motoric beat going on, dogma got some toms on it n shit... but those didn't stick to me, not on first listen anyway. you get the sense one fell swoop was a banger that got deconstructed and mostly censored.
one stich follows another is indeed that track off that 'stitch up' ep and it's like 'sure, lemme just freestyle sum noise over some rolling beat.'

in a nutshell: this is an objekt album that was made for a label like PAN.

will wait for a better rip before listening again.
>>
>>49951889
thanks for the summary mate. seems like it's kinda how i was expecting it to be. given it takes him a year to do a 2 track EP there's no way this full length could be all top quality stuff, so I was anticipating being a bit disappointed. sure it is actually great tho, but just not GOAT like some of his stuff.

>this is an objekt album that was made for a label like PAN.

do you think that he wrote it to fit into the PAN aesthetic or that it's just stuff of his that works with the PAN vibe?

i couldn't say either way, honestly.
pan's pretty all over the shop. i only meant in the sense that it's that sort of 'smart', experimental-edged, electronic music rather than some banger parade.

>>
>>49950550
I honestly feel that jungle just like grime and even dubstep have had their 3-4-5 year peak but "revivals" don't really work and it needs to be kept in the past
>>
>>49950550
what about like benton and stuff? is that jungle?
>>
>>49955054
mate jungle's long overdue a proper revival, given that it's 20 years old. dubstep came and went within the last 10 years... it should get a rivial in 10 years time tbh

just like clothes fashions and shit all that shit comes back around eventually. those vintage clothes in urban outfitters will soon be the clothes youre wearing right now and instead of stocking the xx vinyl there they will have second wave dubstep revival stuff

mark my words broo
>>
>>49955288
I don't think enough young people like Jungle these days for a revival to come and actually stay around for a bit.

I for one prefer the way things are no where we get an odd throwback style release once or twice a year rather than everyone trying to bring the scene back. I listen to more outdated music than anyone I know but I still think it's important to keep moving forwards than trying to capture a sound of the past which could only really have thrived in the past.
>>
>>49955465
nah, man. jungle is getting trendy again. jungle nights always seem to be rammed. also stuff like this is good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuzin1pZX3g

I'll have to take your word for this, most people I speak to don't even know what Jungle even is.

That track was pretty good.
>>
>>49956202
what nights you going to boss? where?
>>
>>49956321
brixton jamm, mostly. there's like a jungle night there every other week. plan b sometimes and also fabric every now and again. they're usually just playing old tunes at these places though. dunno where to go to hear new stuff. apart from benton at swamp 81 nights, which are always super trendy and almost too crowded. he's a wicked dj
>>

>>
>>49956665
Godamnit where are the people who enjoy this stuff IRL.
>>
>>49956896
well that was at heaven in charring cross in london. was a great night. i kept bumping into people that i went to school with that i had no idea were into any of this sort of stuff. for some reason like everyone in the uk goes mad for swamp 81 nights. i think it's because dollop usually promote them. or just that everyone discovered mdma at university. like 80% of that crowd there were rolling their tits off

>>
>>49958337
it's fine, man. it sounds like it'll be scary but everyone is there to have a good time and get into the dj and dance and stuff. no one's gonna notice or mess with you. london club crowds are like the nicest, most loved up people on earth anyway. you don't even really have to do drugs or drink either, so long as you're into the music that's on. some of the best nights of my life have been pretty much sober but the tunes and the crowed and the vibes were right, y'know
