I like the guitar work you have going on here, but I feel like you're not exploring your vocal range nearly as much as you could. Either that or the voice in this particular one could have for a bit more personality. Your other tracks like The Road are much better about this, but in that particular track you posted, the vocals sounded a bit monotone or samey, I didn't feel much from the voice.

I'm a big fan of noise stuff in general. You've got some interesting rhythms and sounds developed, but its not my cup of tea. Keep doin it if it gets your music dick hard though. Always.
>>49736735
Do you do all the instrumentation?
Neat stuff. Kind of mad sloppy at times and mix/production could be better, but its all very charming and I like it.
>>49736698
Those sentimental guitar line intros to heavy tunes always make me giggle. They come off as such a sincere musical nugget in a mountain of angry notes. The singer is intense, which is good for the genre, but I don't like his voice.
How long has the group been together?
Drummer is the slop when he comes in over the bass solo. Guitar is mostly tight but has weird moments of pocket dropping when trying to play arpeggios behind the beat. I'm not the biggest thrash metal guy, but you're good. Keep it up.
>>49736670
Vocal recording / mix seems low and unclear in the verbed out and generally noisey instrumentation. Some interesting song structure. How long have yall been playin together?
>>49736642
Is that you playin guitar or a sample?
The leads come in really heavy right away and sort of stymie the growth leading up to the poppy shift of tone at ~1:35. Gets real a bit cluttered towards the end. Maybe tweak the pacing of how you layer the leads, and have it get bigger to strengthen the contrast and build up the end. You've got a nice ear for this stuff though. Keep it up!
>>49736632
Just sounds really good. Keep making stuff.

>>49730088
I like the fashion in which the track kills itself. I think it needs more going on in the lead up, though. It's frantic but empty to my sensibilities.
>>49730233
Would put in background of Refn film / 10.
>>49730406
Nice and sinister. I think you need something additional slithering around, though, be it a lead voice or some harshly intoned melody biding its time.
>>49730725
We have a winner
>>49730974
Kill one of the vocal tracks during the introductory passage. During the 1:16 or so bridge section you have atmosphere; set a fire underneath it. Similarly for the outro, which is great melodically but goes on too long with too little happening.
>>49731309
What kinda workspace are you using? Has a weird Angelo Badalamenti circa Twin Peaks via the Quake soundtrack (so Mulholland Drive) thing going on.
>>49732448
Fucking rolling at the top track. The guitar on Richard III is beautifully rendered, though I don't find the composition interesting. I like what you're up to.
>>49735793
The music is impressively realized (though I'd watch the mastering, it's a bit beyond the comfortable range) and the cover/painting is beautiful.
>>49736670
The vocals on Glide sound young (buried as they are) and on a purely aesthetic level, whatever the lyrics are, they're not flowing. On these recordings, the drums seem too busy to me. The gaze works best on Reflections. On Glide, the rhythm guitar is stuck in the mids and the drums murder it. I don't know if that was a conscious choice, but it seems like there's a tune there being obfuscated for no good reason. In general, the tracks sound too far away.

>>49730406
If anyone fancies recording/sending me some moody accapella's/raps (message my soundcloud) i'd love to incorporate some vocals into my next track (whenever creativity strikes me again)

Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate it. I'm using a desktop usb mic to record vocals so I usually bury them in reverb since I don't want the background noise to be picked up by the listener.
>How long have yall been playin together?
This is my solo project, I basically do everything alone while grabbing feedbacks here and there.
>the drums seem too busy to me
My friends have been telling me to do more with the drums and make it 'wilder', hence why it's like that on Glide. I see your point though, I'll keep in mind that busy drumming kills the other instruments. Thanks!
>>49739277
Reverb isn't the answer to background noise. Playing around with EQ'ing works wonders.
>>49739365

I hear ya it's taken me over 2 years to get a grasp on Fruity Loops, that being said i could never get into Ableton. haha, I don't know why but it felt like I finally understand DAW's when I started Ableton. It had a simple interface and sure I didn't understand everything (and still don't haha despite having for much time now). I usually use it for recording and maybe an effect or two and that's it. I really prefer using hardware stuff since I can interact with my hands. The downside is that I don't have the ease of composing like I would on Ableton, but I've been learning over the months now of how to do some things on the fly.

You need to make it where each of the drum hits isnt perfectly matched up time and volume wise, if you set the volume slightly for each hit, it gives a more human like feel, since its impossible for someone to perfectly play drums.

Been working on this for the past couple days, a little different from my usual style. Let me know what you think!
Complete fagget here; trying to figure out how the fuck you make/produce music.
So how did you guys get into the scene? How did you learn your shit? I have Ableton and a shit tonne of time and want to know if watching youtube tutorials is enough or if I'm missing anything. Any help is appreciated.
>>49751549
i personally started very young, and have never really paid attention to "guides" and whatnot, unless there's a very specific thing i can't figure out. learning by doing is really my only advice, but then again my music isn't very good :3c

Always loved music and been involved in band from a young age, but only started making music about 2 years ago after randomly taking an electronic music class offered at my college. Fell in love with producing and composing and eventually switched majors to music composition. Now I'm currently in my senior year spending all my time in my school's music building either practicing various instruments or composing. Honeslty prior to that class I had no interest in any subject but now I feel confident in myself and am always striving to get better. One piece of advice I can pass on is that when you first start making music is that your music will probably sound awful to you and you may feel discouraged at times, but eventually you'll get the hang of it and start liking what you're doing if you keep at it every day. Also feedback is always great
>>49751549

It's mostly the basics I want to cover first, like understanding what the different tools I have do so that I can translate what I have as an idea into actual sound.
Also, yeah I'm not looking to become a feature on one of those shitty music youtube channels.
>>49749964
i wasn't too sure about the filtered fadein of the general perc, until the melody set in. really pleasing stuff!

the mix feels somewhat out of phase or something. it's probably intentional, but i think it has potential to give a greater impression. the progression is really good however. like, really good.

The way I got into it was enough middle school nights laying in my bed wishing I could make people feel the way music would make me feel, but I was also a really quiet angsty-depressive teenager, but music spoke a lot to me since I'm not much of a talker.
I think that's a huge starting point, just having a reason, something to express that words can't really, even with lyrics.
The way I started was just school, I had music theory classes, I'd write stuff on Sibelius and all those things, classical, sometimes I'd just have fun with it and experiment, make goofy stuff. Started looking at tabs for guitar on guitar pro, carefully paid attention to arrangements, what I liked, what did things for me, and at first really just tried making cool sounding guitar solos and stuff, because it doesn't have to be organized really, but it can be expressive and fun and helps you get the hang of intervals and general melody.
Eventually I'd start writing out songs on tabs, just throw drum track in, guitar, bass, write out the midi, make something.
After that I started getting more into the sound of it, messing with soundfonts and eventually vsts, and actually recording parts because I initially focused on song structure more than sound, I think that's important to practice first because it helps develop creativity even with the simplest of stuff, then you learn how much different sounds can contribute to a melody, I dunno it's just cool. Like the same melody on a distorted guitar sounds wildly different than a spacey synth, just experimenting constantly really is all I have to say. Start small, don't use big boy DAWs early on in myyy opinion, just do humble stuff at first.
I'm no master at alllll but I mean, that's me at least, if it helps, and I'm at a level where I'm comfortably expressing what I want to in music.

>So how did you guys get into the scene?
I started freestyling with my friends at the park, couple of guys said I had some cool things to talk about and told me to record
I got with a friend, we started making rap tracks together for a little while
I started sending messages out of to my favorite artists on facebook asking what they did when they were trying to get stated.
Phesto D from Souls Of Mischief responded saying that they skipped mixtapes pretty much entirely and made all original records.
After that I decided it was time to start producing and hopped right into it, it helped I had a few friends who knew a bit about it that could teach me

People should leave feedback even without expecting anything in return.
The people who post here and leave are the reason why their is very little community with /mu/ musicians
>>49751549
I was a dj when I was younger and a lot of rappers started kicking it with my crew, so someone had to record them... then before you knew it we had to have some original beats for them... I tried copying hip hop beats that I liked, but I sucked at that. Do what you feel and don't be afraid to make a few shitty tracks. I make tons of them, but if I can get one good one out of 20, Im pretty happy.
Me: >>49753691
>>49754268
I just think leaving your sc link withouth giving feedback is rude
>>49752863
awesome, good luck ^^ yeah just really start simple, look at all kinds of music, listen to all kinds of it, it helps to play an instrument even if you're composing completely on the computer
But honestly best thing I can say like I said is just experiment to hell and then once you find what you like you start incorporating that into more organized settings. Don't worry about sounding messy at first, and maybe for a while, it's something that will really pay off, I dunno where I'd be if I had no music to express through, worth every second I've spent doing it, I don't feel like there's any bit of just inborn talent or anything either, just like, determination, cheesy as it sounds.

What I usually do is leave it, and sometimes I'll go through the list and give everyone a solid listen, the first 15 or so I see, solid feedback, and then leave, often I'll get some back, but only about 1/3 the time or so, usually just a quick follow back or something.
But also sometimes I just leave mine and any feedback I get, even tiny, I really try to return the favor much more because they took the initiative instead of me, and give their stuff a real fair listen and just point out all their strengths I'm hearing (which is a lot more important in my opinion, than trying to find flaws in art)

I don't know a whole lot about music other than Hip Hop, so when I listen to non hip hop tracks i never really know what to say.
