IDM's not allowed because /bleep/ is for club music.

Aphex writes some legit club tunes though, so despite his Avril 14th type tunes he's still welcome here! :) :)

IDM is not underground dance music, as stated in the OP.

it is sad though that we never have IDM threads.

Spent the morning listening to Streets of Rage 3 OST. Spent the afternoon listening to Philly Blunt Records (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivQB_xD7ytQ) and now Ruff Sqwad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9wCeKupsOM).

Also while I initially dismissed it as probably going to be shit, S.P.Y - Back To Basics 2 was a really good album.
>>

>it is sad though that we never have IDM threads.

r u le serious m8? there is 10x as many "IDM" threads on /mu/ as bleeps. AFX, Autechre and Squarepusher, the list could go on, are talked about constantly

>>
>>49612328

They are basically AFX vs BoC vs Autechre threads, not really genre discussion.
>>
>>49612359

house is too big of a broad genre, and it has lost a lot of its "gay" side, except for the American producers doing "throwback" stuff

well there isn't a lot of IDM really to discuss. Add Venetian Snares, the Flashbulb if you want to have a war, and rest of "IDM" producers are forgettable AFX copies really.

The only Aphex Twin I've listened to is The RDJ Album and Druqks and that Caustic Window Compilation. I prefer my IDM guys when they dabble as close to Jungle as possible, is there any point checking out SAW/Analord for me?
>>
>>49618455
SAW/Analord are each ambient techno and acid techno/electro, respectively. Assuming you're Ninja(?), listen to Hangable Auto Bulb under his AFX alias, which was his first foray into drill and bass music.
>>
>>49618455

If you like electronic things at all, SAW/Analord are worth at least checking out. There's a lot worse out there you could be listening to.
>>
>>49618494
Also this. The other two tracks on this single are noise tracks, but the main track is ace if you're into breaks stuff.

I guess you're right, My backlog is building up faster than ever before so whether or not I'll ever get around to it is another issue. It took me a long time to even bother listening to the Aphex Twin stuff I have heard, he was always one of those producers who I knew was important and influential but just never bothered to listen to.

>>49618542
That's what I'm talking about. I could have believed this was a Bong-Ra track if it wasn't labelled.

For the tapes, the Ratty. Micky Finn and Jumping Jack Frost ones are quality. I can't imagine Carl Cox playing something like his Dreamscape set now. The Peshay & Doc Scott one or the Ratty one is probably my favourite. The Sy/Slipmatt/Dougal/Seduction are just a bit too Happy Hardcore for me (although I think Seduction is quite underrated compared to the others).

As for Mumdance's selection, I don't think he properly understands the difference between Happy Hardcore and Breakbeat Hardcore (I wouldn't put 4AM or Blowout Part 2 as HHC). He also called Eye Opener, the confirmed best HHC track of all time awful and thinks Kniteforce is American when it is British so I would like to say he doesn't know what he's on about, the fool. There's also a painful lack of Scott Brown and anyone off JAL in his list. I do like the Jimmy J & Cru-L-T presence there but even then he hasn't included their best track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znTxEQsweqE

4am is basically early happy hardcore
>>
is anyone else really annoyed by all this stupid 90s/early 2000s brit nostalgia run rampant in bleep bloops the past couple years.

there is nothing at all they can do to get me to like uk grabbage or bassline happy hardcore why do they keep doing this to me

nothin but 8 minute long fedora house and fedora techno in here

I can see why he included it in his list but it is definitely Breakbeat Hardcore and not Happy Hardcore, slower tempo, breakbeats are more cut up, piano samples are slightly slower, no thumping constant synths throughout the track, all leans away from HHC and more towards Breakbeat Hardcore.

It's kind of like how people call We Are I.E the first Jungle tracks when it is definitely Breakbeat Hardcore (even Lennie De Ice says this).

m8, 92 > every other year for music (except maybe 94, 95, 96 and 99).
>>
Just saw I Love Techno line-up.
Is this festival becoming legit again or what?
At least this year we can call it techno.
>>
>>49646201
man there's no need to be so anal about which tracks fit into certain genres. especially in this case cos it was released in 94 so it's a blurry line between the 2.
>>
>>49646254
>man there's no need to be so anal about which tracks fit into certain genres

Is this bizarro /mu/? Also I thought it was released in 93.

I get what you are saying though but I think I have actual diagnosable autism at this point about certain breakbeat genres.
>>
>>49646230
nah, ILT has been shit since 2006, nothing to do with the lineup
>>
>>49646346
Was a kid back then, what happened?
>>
>>49646486
Wel if you've ever been, you'll know that the venue is incredibly shit for acoustics. They pretty much stopped caring about decent buildup to compensate for it. I don't know if it was 2006 precisely. Maybe they fixed it now, I haven't been since '11.

Otherwise there's still ofcourse the terrible infrastructure. But if you're of your head that won't really matter.
>>
Alright, question for you guys.

I have literally zero knowledge behind a lot of electronic genres. Completely ignorant.

Someone wants me to compile a bunch of music for them, and one of the genres they mentioned was dance, or better explained "likes a good beat." Considering their like of dadrock and some heavy metal, I assume that girly dance and that sort of stuff is off limits.

Suggestions?

Have you got any idea how difficult it is to compile a playlist of 'dance music' for someone with the only thing they state is that they like music with a good beat, which translate to "I like whatever my friends are listening to and I don't really care what I'm hearing" in most cases.
>>
>>49647386
I'm not saying it's an easy task. I'm just saying throw out a few non-girly electronic esque bands and I'll do what I can to sift through them.

I just have zero clue about the genre or bands, so I have no real starting point.

i think gorgon city sux when it comes to producing, but i rarely listen to a mix more than twice and ive got probably 20+ listens on this one

those IDs are needed b/w 10:00 and 20:00

That Scuba Death LP is amazing
>>
>>49641893

dance music has always had its cheesy, or over the top side or whatever. but one thing i don't understand is how martingarrixcore ever became a thing or became massively popular. the kind with BOOM BOOM kick drums, no groove, and awful synths and basslines. at least older music like hard house still had an underground kind of sound to it, despite being fast, bouncy and mental in general

i mean cheesy house has always been popular, like 10 years ago there was funky house and hed kandi filter house shit like chris lake etc. and i can understand why this so called deep house and house n bass music has been big over the past few years.

but what kind of fucking person actually enjoy listening to these deranged big room edm tracks. it's the least fucking cool music i've ever heard. they have no vibes whatsoever.
>>
>>49650543
big room is little different to gabber when you think about it.

actually big room is just gabber except less hard
>>
>>49650543
because it's minimalism for the edm set
>>
>>49647996
>good vibes

creamfields was one of the worst places i've been to. partly because i had a bad experience with someone i met though.

full of monged scousers and scumbags in general, women squatting down to take a piss/shit, people asking you if you're selling drugs every 10 minutes. never again, eastern electrics was good though. want to go to sw4 next year
>>
>>49650543
what is this 'big room'? post examples pls?

this is your every big room track ever.

do any of you rock wavey garms when you're out?
also do any of you ever hear any Sophie when you're out?

Can't stand how high and farty some of those drops are, its like a parody of itself. The similarity between tracks is also mindboggling, just a different vocal sample or bit of breaks before drop the makes a track completely different to these people.

What i don't get is these tracks that just sound like extremely poorly produced trance with one basic lead synth with an uninspiring melody that loops over, and people are all over them. How is this music getting released and played out to thousands of people, and people actually enjoy it?
