Put avant-garde stuff like eai, onkyo, free jazz, drone, noise and the likes here. I'm gonna share Quartet by Nikos Veliotis, Taku Sugimoto, Kazushige Kinoshita, Taku Unami. It's almost like accoustic onkyo, it's definitely an interesting listen.

this album is really fucking good:
Britta Lindell - How I Would Like
>experimental folk / outsider music. this woman played all the instruments on this album, and pretty much kept to her style for the rest of her life, but she never really got any attention even from the avant-garde audience. It's really harsh and unsettling at times, a bit unpolished, but a must for any outsider music fan.

Piano and cello. Very tense, eerie and disquieting; the record focuses on atmosphere more than form, but the instruments are made to sound like mishandled objects that creak and shriek more often than not. Listen to this late at night in a quiet room.

Drone waves, very peaceful and beautiful at first then getting progressively glitchier, more and more "corrupted", to the point of becoming almost uncomfortable to listen to. Beautiful throughout, and it's easy to picture a narrative that would follow the music.

Jakob Ullmann – voice, books and FIRE 3
http://www24.zippyshare.com/v/47216982/file.html
For eight female vocalists, saxophone, transverse flute, violin and cello. Rather quiet, but there's a lot going on — mostly half-whispered voices and sounds that always seem remote and drawn out. Everything sounds ghostly yet very alive; the "score" (if you can call it that) is based on old texts in ancient languages (Aramaic, Coptic etc).

Gabriela Lena Frank performed by ALIAS Chamber Ensemble and Gabriela Lena Frank - Helios (Threads) [2011]
https://mega.co.nz/#!9k1jCRxD!s1jznm3vM-D5-mQp_4mtb6hseDR-3kyNPfKTnqdRtHE
>contemporary classical, chamber music
These pieces are wonderful miniatures, playful with colour and sound, though entirely concise and no longer than they need to be, there is no excess. It's certainly very interesting music and Lena Frank is a very singular composer with a distinct and intriguing style. This disc collects some recent chamber works; including a string quartet, a cello sonata, a piece for two marimbas, and the centrepiece Hilos (Threads) for clarinet, violin, cello and piano.

metamodern-post-noise is a response to the early 2010s noise wave, its main driving force is the resentment of neckbeard /mu/tants after all the core values of late 2000's noise seemed to have disappeared from the genre.

It's an oscillation between the idealism of pre-metamodern-noise, and the irony and subjectivity of the 2010's post-MBDTF-noise movement.

Annie Gosfield – Flying Sparks and Heavy Machinery

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sksCuAB0ZJU
http://www55.zippyshare.com/v/16515611/file.html

"EWA7 and Flying Sparks and Heavy Machinery were both inspired by machine and factory sounds; the scrapes, squeaks, and bangs of metal, the ambient buzzes and whines of electric devices, and the imperfect rhythmic repeats of heavy machinery. Most of the music was developed in 1999 during a six-week residency in the factories of Nuremberg, Germany, in a program sponsored by the Siemens Corporation designed to “combine art and industry” My work in Nuremberg included visiting many factories, observing and listening to all types of machinery, and recording sounds on site. I was particularly fascinated by the ever-changing sonic landscapes that occur in each factory as sounds shift, overlap, and echo in the distance. A critical part of the residency was the opportunity to listen: what I initially heard as a mass of cacophonous factory noise gradually revealed itself to be a beautifully complex amalgam of layered textures and timbres. The sound of a buzzsaw’s rising harmonic grind would emerge out of the quiet ambient hum of fluorescent lights, for example, only to be obliterated by random arhythmic crashes and bangs from a huge metal press. Machine rhythms went in and out of phase, dynamics varied wildly, and in an environment of constantly shifting activity and noise, the frequency spectrum fluctuated from sub-audio rumbles to barely audible high-pitched whines."

It's contemporary music (tagged as musique concrète/electroacoustic on RYM) inspired by factories; the music doesn't sound nearly as repetitive and industrial as you might expect. But it's really good.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Nerve Net Noise – Dark Garden

http://www.intransitiverecordings.com/album/dark-garden
http://www10.zippyshare.com/v/17258379/file.html
http://www.yk.rim.or.jp/~kumax/nnn/

Nerve Net Noise consists of two Japanese people: one builds handmade synthesizers, then the duo programs them and lets them play random sounds on their own with as little human intervention as possible. Finally the other guy mixes the results. Their intention is to let the machines live and make sounds on their own to make a music that is "between played and non-played", so the sounds rarely sound harmonious at all.

And because they're Japanese, one of their previous albums was a concept album based on the everyday activities of a female robot. (One track was called "Shopping": it was just a slightly noisy, continous shrill tone with no variation.) They also have a 3D illustration of a female robot as a mascot of sorts, a cute "theme song" in MIDI that doesn't sound nearly as dissonant as their usual music, and poems in Japanese and Engrish.

They're the nerdiest band I've ever heard of, hands down.

Dark Garden is an exception in their discography in that it's actually listenable and enjoyable; some tracks even have rhythms and melodies. Still weird as hell. If you have roommates, they will probably hate you for playing this.

i kinda understand where you're coming from, but that statement is a bit hyperbolic. yea, they're following in the footsteps of people like henry, schaeffer, chion, and watson, but certainly adding their own twists and forms to this type of electronic music.

who would you say they're just ripping off?

sean mccann may have some non-electronic stuff that could interest you from that list, and otherwise paul dolden released a pretty great avant garde album this year
