>>
>>49326759
Thanks but what makes electronic music /bleep/ or not?
>>
>>49326780
/bleep/ is for dance music / club music

IDM is not inclusive in this as a rule of thumb

these threads were created with the express purpose of avoiding discussion of stuff like aphex twin, BoC, autechre, and so on
>>
>>49326907
shit I didn't even know this. what about flylo and similar artists?
>>
>>49327128
IDM is not inclusive in this as a rule of thumb

What exactly do you not understand
>>
>>49327128
flylo sorta pushes the boundaries a little with some of his stuff, but basically nah
>>
new Terekke is luvly

https://soundcloud.com/l-i-e-s/terekke-yrlv-lies-blk-07
>>
>>49327157
the term intelligent dance music is vague as fuck. many flylo tracks sounds more like hip hop instrumentals than anything close to aphex twin, BoC, etc. and you can definitely play it in a club (not true for all his tracks obviously)
>>
>>49327327
out of all IDM i reckon flylo gets pretty close to /bleep/ territory with some of his stuff. i've seen him discussed on here before actually
>>
>>49327327
>implying you couldn't play BoC in a club
>>

you could play fucking merzbow in a club. doesn't mean that it's club music

its not fucking club music though is it
>>
>>49327444
>played in a club
>not club music
wow, pretentious much?

what does it have to be to be played in a club?

4 on the floor?

d n b isn't 4 on the floor? neither is most garage

hell "dub"step isn't even 4 on the floor.. faggot
>>
>>49327484
nah to be fair this is a stupid conversation to be having
>>
>>49327377
>>implying you couldn't play BoC in a club
no im not.
>/bleep/ is for dance music / club music
i was just saying that FlyLo definitely meets this criterion and at the same time don't really sound like BoC or Aphex (even though most people consider them to make music of the same genre)
>>
>>49327506
there's a difference, and if you can't see it then i don't understand how you are able to hold a conversation in this thread

what i mean is, you can technically play any music in a club, or anywhere else for that matter, without it being club music. no one plays fucking merzbow in clubs are you daft
>>
>>49327551
the fuck are you talking about?

if it's able to be played in a club then it's club music..

you can play anything in a club, therefore anything is club music..
>>
>>49327506
mate how is this so hard for you to understand

no one said shit about 4 on the floor

dnb is dance music, dubstep is dance music, its functional music with a specific stucture so that DJ's can mix it with other tunes in a club
>>
>>49327674
yes but you can mix boc too..

>1 phrase intro
>main
>1/2 phrase out tro

mix with similar bpm...

what are you talking about

alright then. we're talking about underground electronic dance music in these threads. is that specific enough for you?
>>
>>49327747
boc is fairly underground.. and dance-y..
>>
>>49327775
it's not dancey in the same way as any of the genres discussed in these threads are dancey. it is not designed for dj use. the tracks don't pack enough of a punch to work well in a set or to gather any reaction from a crowd

I notice a lot of people here are into UK Garage(I assume it's mostly because most people here are british) but we also should be sharing where UK garage came from. The New Jersey/New York Garage house sound:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3KxnFmHTfw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO_BNeC5oyk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfaTbGuohHA

It kinda goes that way if you're really into this stuff. You go to the more easy to find stuff then you go deeper into the roots of whatever you verse yourself in a lot.

Speaking of UK Garage, has anyone ever seen DJ EZ?

I've seen him twice and he blew my mind, dude fucking knows his garage.
>>
>>49334713
a bit too pricey but i'd probably go if i was in berlin
>>
>>49323570
fuck man thanks
>>
>>49334729

I saw him live for the first time 2 fridays ago. Cool dude. Gave him an old DJ Pierre record as a gift. He looked like a kid who just got an N64 on christmas. He played great too despite the opening DJ being insanely awful(faggot was playing trap and moombahton near the end....fucking Miami).
>>
>>49334867
The guy is a fucking machine, his boiler room is like 3 hours long.

I've seen him at a big student union and a festival so I've never actually met him, but he had a big smile on his face for his entire set both times. Seems like a lovely guy.
>>
>>49334729
every single one of his sets is the same though. it feels kinda clinical

>>49334867
can you tell me how tall he is

always wanted to know, i know he's fucking tiny but i want to know how tiny
>>
>>49335079

I'm 5'6" and he made me feel tall. I took a pic with him but people here in /bleep/ get extremely buttblasted when I post pics of me with artists/DJs.
>>
>>49334644
I like you !
>>
>>49335116
just post it m8 whatever i want to know

also i swear you said you were 5'4" not long ago

>>
>>49335225
just post the picture dawg
>>
>>49324789
who thinks that?

Can't stand /bleep/ fans who have never been to a club in their lives and just sit at home worshipping squarepusher and browsing resident advisor (not even that I have anything in particularly against SP or RA)
>>
>>49324970
don't know whether i'm cringing more at your list of what you think is typical UKG or the fact you openly referred to Burial as awful
>>
>>49335563

It's a troll, anon. Someone posted a big list of tracks and he completely ignored it.
>>
Why are all /bleep/ threads 90% composed of arguments about wether or not UK garage sucks?
>>
>>49335622
fuck I fell for that hard aha - always difficult to see clearly through the mist of rage (am a big UKG fan here)
>>
>>49335641
theyre really not, dunno how you got that impression

this is the first time ive seen this argument in like a month
>>
>>49335655

It's just some retard trying to make a "UK Garage hate train" here for no reason. It's 1 MAYBE 2 people doing it at most. He just posts a lot to make it seem like it's a lot of people. Most people on /mu/ don't even give a flying fuck about UK Garage let alone dance music in general.
>>
>>49335641
I just don't get how people can possibly hate a tune like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoeB82x5yrc
>>
>>49335726
It's Antz, by the way. Just so you know
>>
>>49335494
I always wonder if people in this thread actually go to clubs or not.

So, do people?
>>
>>49335806
yep, on average id say once every fortnight

Anybody know any other albums similar to this? I need more... I don't want to overplay this album, but this music makes me feel so good... Like it increases my testosterone tenfold
>>
>>49335806
>>49335494 (Me)
I wouldn't strictly say clubs as much as much as just live events - so much electronic music is ultimately some variety of dance music, or is at least aimed at being played on a serious sound system... so it doesn't really do a lot of music justice to only listen to at home...

I do very frequently since I play out a lot in this one club in Miami. Last night I was there for Quantic live. Dude played 45's pretty much the whole night. Pic related
>>
>>49335806
yeah, mostly on the weekends. sometimes during the week.

of course you can /bleep/ it up from your couch to some extent, but i think we can all agree that the club environment is a whole different experience.

His shit as grain is also like 50x better. Including that midland remix from this year
>>
>>49335806
I used to go at least once every weekend, but the club was too far. Half an hour driving alone because my friends don't like bleep.

And all the clubs in my city are quite shitty.
Pro tip: don't live in Geneva.

So now I just go once in a while when there's something I really want to see or when my friends make me go.

Clubbing alone is the tits, m8. You usually end up meeting lots of new people and become part of their cliques.

Not him, but it's just not as much fun. I mean, there's still some chance you can have a lot of fun if the right people are there and you meet them, but if not, it's just alright, whereas when you go with friends, it's more likely to be a lot of fun.
>>
>>49336588
Exactly ! Well I don't become part of any clique but at least I have people to hang out with for the night.

>>
>>49336588
this usually still happens even when i club with friends. i see what you mean though, there's more incentive to talk to new people. also i guess you have more freedom of what you want to do in the club as opposed to sticking to friends on certain floors. dont think id roll on my own though.
>>
>>49336906
no need to a be an arsehole, EZ is still one of the most respected UKG/House DJs in the UK
>>
>>49336973

Well Classical Curves has shaped the modern UK club music sound today, so that's a good start. But it's an abstractish album.

If you want to go the EP route, Wut, Magic Drops, That Mystic, Southside, Dreama and Ballads are amazing.

Not to mention the club constructions series and the night slugs all stars releases.

I would go the EPs I listed first, then Allstars then classical curves then club constructions
>>
>>49334644
I like that sound, but I'd prefer some actual quality mp3s rather than youtube links
>>
does liking SOPHIE make me a bender

I just recently started producing with a friend, and I'm attempting to create some noise type music that people can also dance to. I'm not sure what distortion pedals to start with nor what mixer/drum pad/MIDI Controller/etc to buy. I'm caught between using max/msp, reaper, and SuperCollider as a DAW. Should I learn a lot of music theory beforehand? Any advice and answers to these questions would be great.

Influences: Merzbow, Death Grips, Com Truise, TOBACCO, Autechre, Oneohtrix Point Never, Acid Scout.

I don't even know what SuperCollider is man but I would reccomend using one of the standard DAWs like Ableton or Pro Tools - also if you've only just started it isn't worth investing in serious hardware just yet, sampling shit and using softsynths should get you pretty far down the road

>>

I'm not who you're responding to, but Supercollider is a more academic music synthesis program. It uses a programming language to create sounds, not like the linear / clip-based workflow of Live / FL / Logic / etc. at all.

I'd recommend a standard DAW as well and just trying to use software at first.
Tons of great work has been made software-only (Madteo's Noi No and Shifted's Crossed Paths come to mind)
