Cheers man, I'm cautiously hopeful this is a proper recovery, just need to get over my anxiety issues now. I'm playing a set at Deaf Institute tomorrow night for my mate who runs Bitlord, thought it might be an idea to throw myself back into it as a sorta immersion therapy.

That Selective Hearing night is at Joshua Brookes which should be fucking sick now I hear they've upgraded their system to a Void system.
>>
>>49071058
Ah sick man - I've don't know of Bitlord but it's been a few years since I lived in Manc. I used to go to Deaf Institute a lot though. What kinda stuff you planning on playing? All certified bangers I hope ;)

Didn't know Joshua Brookes had upgraded their sound. I bet it's really nice now... it was one of my favourites anyway. I love cosy basement clubs.
>>
>>49071171
Bitlord's a gaming and DJ night run by the guy who used to do Secret Wars and that sister night to Drumclinic, only been running for a couple of years. Pretty eclectic vibes selection-wise. Always fun though. I'm gonna be playing a bunch of techno bangers and perhaps some 1991-style breakbeat hardcore if I feel like I can get away with it.
JB has always been pretty banging on the right night, cannot wait to finally hear the fabled Void though.

Tensnake posts bad music, but everybody has different tastes so I don't hold it against him.

What annoys me is his constant use of reaction faces in order to "stand out", and his inability to make any sort of conversation that doesn't return back to him.
It's like his ego is so big it's not aware that there are things outside of his existence.

very rare to see people open about jew-trickery. most times when someone with enough jew tricks takes off, they abandon ship an fuck off anyway. then you're left with the 2000 post talentless hacks.

Serious question: is there any /bleep/ (or electronic music in general tbh) that isn't 4/4?

I mean, It doesn't have to be music for the dance floor, just something that breaks the normal structure of 4/4 in electronic music.

Hello /bleep/ I've been trying to get into more electronic stuff but I've found the genre labeling pretty lacking. I really want to find more stuff like Lorn (https://soundcloud.com/lorn/debris) and want to find more really dark electronic stuff like it. I've found The Haxan Cloak and that's about it. Dark Ambient is too Ambient and Dark Electro is too Cyber-Goth-Kid-I-Knew-in-High-School. Please help?

I can't think of any of the top of my head but it I suspect there is some. You have to remember most of what is discussed in these threads is functional music to varying degrees insofar that it's to be played over big speakers and danced to... you can't really dance to 7/8 all that easily. That said probably a fair chunk of stuff could be considered 12/8 as that's just triplety 4/4.

But no, this thread is club bangers and club bangers don't bang as hard in 5/8.

That Burial track Spaceape is in an unusual time signature, come to think of it. Not really club material tho
>>

>>
>>49098482
>>49097557

Just to add to my previous post... didn't see that you weren't necessarily wanting dance music, in which case yeah loads and loads of 'electronic' (that means nothing btw) music isn't in 4/4.

This anon's list is good >>49095795

And I'll add a classic / prime example.

dear uneducated americans / rockists EDM is not a catch all term for electronic music that you dance to. i know it sounds stupid but EDM is a marketing term for shitty big room house and other mainstream shit were the focus is on pop melodys and chord structure.

drum and bass, techno, old dubstep, footwork, juke, real house music etc etc are not EDM
>>
>>49098482
>That Burial track Spaceape is in an unusual time signature, come to think of it

stop getting your opinions from music magazines. its clearly syncopated 4/4. most producers dont have a clue about technical time signatures they just make drum patterns in your regular 4/4 grid set at 64th notes and noodle around with it.
>>
Serious question: is there any /indie rock/ (or guitar music in general tbh) that isn't 4/4?I mean, It doesn't have to be music for the teenage bedroom, just something that breaks the normal structure of 4/4 in guitar music.

I don't reallyread music magazines, man. It's clearly not 4/4 - how do I prove this to you? Also do you really think most producers (not that Burial is 'most producers') don't know about time signatures outside of 4/4? It's pretty obviously easy in any DAW to do something that's not 4/4... anyone thats messed around in a DAW for more than 5 mins will be able to do something that's not 4/4.

yellow markers show the start of each loop

here it is against a 4/4 grid
>>
>>49099199
4/4 same as 8/8 same as 16/16 same as 428/428 same as 124512585/124512585

therefore time signatures are irrelevant constructs that cannot accurately enough describe the rhythmic qualities of any piece of music

Here it is against a 5/4 grid.

You can see the syncopation and you can see that it's in 5/4.

All you boys with no ears feel free to prove me wrong, though.
>>
>>49099241
I'm not that guy but time signatures describe metre, not rhythm.
>>
>>49099272
4/4 same as 2/2 same as 1/1 thus its still all irrelevant
>>
why anyone hype about that moire thing?
werk discs eps were properly middle-of-the-road shit.
i'll still listen to this lp tho cause i got nothing better to do, but this boy's all reflected actress hype as far as i'm concerned
>>
>>49099233
The second kick doesn't hit on the 2nd beat, it hits in between the 2nd and the 3rd. Your BPM is set too low.

The drum pattern is similar to this. The snares hit at the same time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHE_Z7B-pA8
>>
>>49099313
Well they denote metre, and a lot of music has metre so they're not irrelevant.
>>

naw

sounds like hoax-core like the HATE stuff
>>
>>49099473
You see this is where you don't understand metre. 6/8 is closely related to 2/4, not 3/4.

In 6/8 it's compound time and notes are grouped in 3s not 2s. 6/8 is 2 groups of 3... like 2/4 if both beats had triplet quavers.

6/8 is related to 2/4
9/8 is related to 3/4
12/8 is related to 4/4

Do your research mate. This is grade 2 shit lol

>>
>>49099614
>6/8
>2/4 with tripletshits
naw, I'm thinking that having two names for one thing is a mark of theoretical weakness

and that u need to do your research find a better method
>>
>>49099524
not that other guy, but just wondering if compound time sigs would be helpful in a DAW context.

it makes sense from a performance/count-in-your-head perspective, but putting down midi for percussion in an ableton clip not so much to me. i mean i know where my accents are because that midi block is darker than the others. lel.
>>
>>49099650
Mate I didn't make the rules.

It's not so prevalent with today's music, I give you that but it's borne out of the western classical tradition where a piece in 6/8 and a piece in 2/4 is quite noticeably different.

No one really uses compound time these days though but it doesn't mean that simple time and compound time aren't different.
>>
>>49099684
Yeah probably not that helpful, I guess... but not unhelpful either. Easier to just switch 4/4 to to a triplet grid than write everything in 12/8.
>>
>>49099703

>>
>>49099810
>>49099842

You guys really thing the chords in your favourite banger aren't just a continuation of the western canon? Why is piano house just a load of major 7ths? You think the boys in Chicago set up their own tuning system and then used that to group notes together conincidentally in the same way that music from the west has been doing for hundreds of years? Do you think that if the west hadn't settled on equal temperament a few hundred years ago that dance music would've just by chance created the tuning system that it uses? Do you think that by chance bleep tunes use 4/4 and not because our culture has been using 4/4 for hundreds of years? Non western musical cultures don't measure and count musical time in the same way. Also do you think that dance music calling notes C D E F G A B and using those notes to write tunes is just another thing that happened by chance and has nothing to do with the music the west has been making for hundreds of years?

Fair enough, think 'classical' music is old and irrelevant if you want. I've never even posted in /classical/ for what it's worth... but you have to be an idiot to think that today's dance music isn't just a continuation of the principles that western cultures have been applying to music for hundreds of years now.
>>
