Gray - Shades Of... [2010]
>Have you even heard (of) experimental jazz-hop? This album "embarks on new sonic explorations using a similar sonic palette to that of [Gray's] early work [in the early 1980s]. That palette includes a rather dizzying array of colors, encompassing hip-hop, ambient atmospheres, industrial sounds, minimalism, art funk, moody post-punk, jazzy guitars, spoken word, and even pop." (James Allen in allmusic review) Gray was originally a musical project undertaken by the infamous young artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. To get an idea of what the album is about I suggest watching a documentary titled "The Radiant Child" (2010), which is easy enough to find and well seeded. The documentary tells "a funny story about [Bosquiat] starting a band with his friend at a dance party despite the fact that neither knew very much about music. That band, which also included Nicholas Taylor and Justin Thyme, recorded a handful of genre-less songs that echo early ’80s New York in a specific and rare way, but ultimately drifted into obscurity as a footnote to the art superstar’s biography" (Peter Macia in fader review). The samples are consequtive tracks on the album and completely different in style and tone, as is every track on the album.

Good going man.
Another thing: OPs can no longer bump their own threads, so anons have to respond to them in other to climb on the queue. This isn't a problem for sharethreads, but keep it in mind.

Thanks for doing this mang.

Slowy & 12Vince - Ultima Radio (FLAC) [2014]
>This is the first release of 2014 that I will most likely listen for years to come. These Germans have their own unique take on jazz-hop and it works great. I can listen to four tracks from this album, "High Five", "Jonathan Meese", "Paragraph 303" (sample) and "Sondereinsatzkommando" on repeat throughout the days. I catch very little of the lyrics but the style that these guys ooze transcends the language barrier. In short, some great German jazz-hop.

Bi-Polar Bear - When Ledge Is Home [2012]
>I'm not sure if it would be weird to call this "emo-hop". The general feel of BPB is rather hopeful than depressing. It aspires to give good feels. Anyhow, this is their second release and somehow I managed to miss it in 2012. It features some production by Blue Sky Black Death and rhymes from Junk Science, the hosts of the Modern Shark roster. I'm not sure many hip-hop heads would like it, but it's definitely unique. Try the sample music video if you want to hear what they sound like, and see a bouncing pair of boobs (only 3,737 views, what the actual fuck).

Spirit Agent - Depth Perception [1999]
>The archive shows that ever since I shared this album here in 2012 some people have caught on how brilliant this is. It's philosophical or abstract hip-hop with chill low-key instrumentals and mesmerising, poetic and infinitely complex lyrics. It features Seven Star and you can find their Input/Output EP as well as their other project, Antennae, in the archive.
>"Why does the sun fall down when she cries letting my shoulders drown in the sound of the moans of a queen, but it grows up a fiend. Could it be that I couldn't express my craziest intents in and out of her being, she loved me too. The sun sets theme in the sea let me be clean in the mist of your goal. I don't think my coal could put a hole to her flame. Am I to blame, or were we both in vain?"

Airospace - ???? ??? (vol. I) [2012]
>Probably the closest thing to Spirit Agent's "Depth Perception" I've ever heard. This is the opposite of your regular shallow hip-hop that can't really stand repeated listening unless it's danceable. This is very much the type of music you can dive into and descend endlessly.

V8 As Troy Witherspoon & Shortrock As Bobby Mariano - All Terrain Bathroom Tile: Theories On Procreation, Chemical Science, and The Draconian Law [2010]
>Weird-hop, I guess. The latter part of the album title, "Theories on Procreation, Chemical Science, and the Draconian Law" is most descriptive because V8 does use a lot of chemical terms very casually; like when he utters: "and she would do the same for the tropical cancer and spend your time dying in the temprid weather" he replaces the expression "tepid weather" with "temprid weather" (temprid is an insecticide). And among the very technical discussions on procreation and free-association about god knows what, there's an undercurrent of David Icke that won't bother you if you don't know what to listen for (Icke is explicitly sampled only once). There's also some very unique musical dialogue between V8 the rapper and Shortrock the turntablist, as when V8 sprinkles nonexistent but familiar-sounding words into his rapping: "heavy mechanical machinery for conducting sound-waves for 'perfoermen', then a more desired 'perferning', tenacing, imperception", Shortrock responds by sampling a soundbite saying "It's so hard to keep your ears clean." Shortrock uses his turntable, at times, almost like a human voice expressing inarticulate thoughts through scratches. It really is a weird and unique album.

Spirit agent was just Plex and Stres and if I remember correctly then Plex stopped producing after Spirit Agent.

Antennae on the other hand was composed of Stres, Manuvers (whose "Afluenza" EP is extremely good) and Induce (an abstract instrumentalist).

Both were released by the label Botanica del Jibaro that lasted almost the whole of last decade, ending with Arrowax's Antiguo LP, a superb release.

The Uncluded is actually the only album on which I have enjoyed Aesop Rock. He doesn't usually have what I look for in hip-hop (though there definitely are tracks that I like immensely). The Uncluded on the other hand sounds like a wonderful collaboration, a unique fusion. I like it's sound because it's one of those things that I hadn't heard before. If you listen to a lot of new albums then you're bound to appreciate those that are not only new but also unique, more. My favorite track on the album is "Bats":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x90x3cLjapc

In a word, I had the same feeling with Hockey Fright that I had with P.O.S.'s "Never Better" (2009), but much like with The Gigantics's "Die Already" (2008) I got tired of it after listening to it fanatically for a month and just moved on.

>These guys don't dissappoint. The album is almost a decade old, but still sounds fresh. It is jazz-hop (or jazzy hip-hop), and well done at that. There are philosophical undertones that make this an excellent piece lyrically as well.

>>Sven Grünberg - Hingus [1981]
>This is a Soviet era Estonian electronic artist. Joseph Morpurgo wrote for FACT magazine that it's "dazzling, stately, and huge in just about every way". To me it sounds cosmic, and I think that's what the artist was going for: "hingus" translates as "breath", the other tracks on it are titled "teekond" ("journey") and "valgusõis" ("a blossom of light"). I was kinda dissapointed to discover this only now - 7 Estonian friends on last.fm have already listened to it. I'm way too ignorant of my own country's music. So, yeah, Soviet-Estonian dark ambient.

Richie Havens - Mixed Bag (1967)
>Contemporary Folk, Folk Rock
If the cover didn't give it away already, Mixed Bag deep thinking singer-songwriter with just his guitar to keep him company. Very rough sounding first national debut from Richie Havens, who to me sounded like a cross between Tim Buckley and Larry Santos. Richie has a beautiful deep voice of warm heavy mahogany.

>Have you even heard (of) experimental jazz-hop? This album "embarks on new sonic explorations using a similar sonic palette to that of [Gray's] early work [in the early 1980s]. That palette includes a rather dizzying array of colors, encompassing hip-hop, ambient atmospheres, industrial sounds, minimalism, art funk, moody post-punk, jazzy guitars, spoken word, and even pop."
It sounds like trip hop/downtempo albeit very good trip hop/downtempo

Fanatik - Seismic Activity (FLAC) [1997]
>I've wanted to give this record a listen since 2007, ever since first hearing the track "Home Improvement" online on some asian site. (Shout out to Jakbu for acquiring this album as well as the next two.) The album is dope from beginning to end. Lewis Parker's imitation of the 90s sound is neat and all, but it can't compete with the real thing. This feels raw and crisp in a way that can be emulated but not easily remade. Most of it is instrumental, nice to bang on the background. (Album title is probably a metaphor for how hard it bangs.)

Sharkula - Martin Luther King Jr. Whopper With Cheese [2004]
>This is the homeless Chicago rapper's first official release. I've wanted to hear this since discovering him on wikipedia in 2008. His unique non sequitur style can be checked out in the music video for "School Fools" (sample). As I fully expected, this album is a clusterfuck. It's difficult to tell whether it's rapping or the ravings of a madman. Probably both. It's a continuum between weird instrumentals and weird spoken word interludes with weird raps between these extremes ("I scoop her with all my might, your mother don't fuck right"). As much as I know about him through youtube, he's a middle-aged man who does graffiti, break-dances and walks around town constantly rapping - he basically lives hip-hop. If there ever was such a thing as "outsider hip-hop", this is it. If you're a fan of obscure or "wtf?" type music, I suggest you check this out.

Katchphraze - Eye Can See Now [2007]
>I've wanted to hear more from this guy since 2009, because of the acoustic track "Come with me (to a place called hip-hop)" (sample). The album is not nearly as good. In fact it's outright amateurish. But I nevertheless enjoy listening to it, if not for any other reason then because of his voice. It's soooo backpacker.

Tha Connection - Moon Water [2008]
>Back when it was released I used to listen to this on repeat for months. The instrumentals are made by Japanese jazz-hop artists and the lyrics are by two laid back stoners who, reportedly, smoke weed until they can't lick spoons (whatever that means). They released about 5 mixtapes in 2008 altogether with overlapping tracklists. This is the best one. It's still one of my most favourite jazzy hip-hop releases. I think it's that saxophone that makes it stand out.

Night Terrors Of 1927 - Guilty Pleas EP [2013]
>The title should read "guilty pleasure". I'm not generally a fan of synthpop but this is beyond tolerable, it's outright enjoyable. Meaningless pop music? Sure. But it's so well done that you probably won't mind that it doesn't seem to have anything to say.

Harvey Gunn - VPVB BEAT-TAPE [2012]
>Minimalism is kind of rare in instrumental hip-hop, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this beattape to be very irregular in that regard. It's mild and on point, not trying to overload or overkill with countless layers. Some 5 loops will do to make the sound pleasurable. It's an half hour worth of nice tunes.

>Lately it has become more and more difficult to find japanese jazz-hop albums that aren't already well known or just boring as fuck. I'm not sure how well known Jazzyfact is, but for me it has at least some replay value. It's the scratches that make this good, I think. These guys have taken jazz-hop pretty seriously. >This is probably the first musique concrete album I'm impressed with. I was blown away by how novel and exciting it is. It's a bunch of very neatly organized totally not random things that happen, sometimes scenes from old French movies sometimes something utterly unexplainable.
