Grime is considered "bleep"

It is played in Clubs
It is Played on Rinse FM
It is reported on in Fact Magazine
It can be said to be a branch off of UK Garage
It is a form of dance music
It does not have to have a MC, it can be instrumental electronic music
Grime can appear along side other genres found in these threads within a mix

It is receiving hate here based on presumptions on who listens to it and prejudice against those who post it.

Here is a good example of a grime track:

but shit's next level imo
>>
How many of you think the lo-fi house/techno thing is a fad?

I don't know anymore.. it seems like a lot of small labels have cropped up lately putting out that type of sound and it's all just a bit boring.

The speed ron is putting out records out on LIES now maybe he knows he won't be 'hyped' for much longer.

>>
>>48649501
hmm i dunno it's just bipp mk. II

would be fun to hear live, and the production's great. that being said i don't listen to it and think 'wow what a banger'
>>
Does anyone know any techno that uses breaks and has a Avian/dark/industrial feel? Something like Technical Itch but at 140.

Repost from old thread.
>>
>>48649514
i think it's a fad, yeah. i think producers jumped on it cos they liked what they heard.

but now it's getting old, and a lot of it does sound samey. probably gonna be a very unpopular style of dance music within a year or less
>>
>>48649514
It's lame trendshit. I'm suspecting that most people hyping that shit don't even like it but just do it because they want to fit in.
>>
does anyone else just feel completely overwhelmed trying to get into house

there's just so much of it
>>
>>48649514

of course it's a fad. and this comes from someone who enjoys that music. i think dance music in general is a game of follow the leader, but few people are brave enough to be the first to step out of line.
>>
>>48649536
are you sure you don't mean 130? 140 is a pretty unconventional techno speed

but i can't really help you sorry
>>
>>48649539
I wonder what will be the next hyped up thing.

At least the amount people that flip the lo-fi house/techno records will decreases when its 'not cool'
>>
>>48649558

i wish there was more fast banging techno
>>
>>48649554
You could choose a sub genre and get into that to start with and then branch out?
eg tech house
>>
>>48649586
tech house is pretty pants though
>>
>>48649393
>can be said

nah definitely is. nearly all the original grime boys cite people like wooky as influences. wiley got into making grime partially bc he wasnt taken seriously in garage and he wanted to make his own sound. the eskiboy sound (wot do u call it lol) and in early days grime was just called garage. not to mention the connection between the nastier type of dark drum and bass that was coming out around then times and grime. sets like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2PbTzv29qk
>>
>>48649554

it's only an issue when you are on the path of trying to get deeper and deeper cuts. there is plenty of good stuff in the traditional favorites.
>>
i'm ready to admit that i'm a complete and utter boomkat drone
>>
>>48649601
it was just an example, someone would of said that about whatever I picked
>>
>>48649554
yeah, i basically tend to just stick to mostly UK stuff; since the entire UK scene is linked in a big web, it makes it all a lot easier to follow along with other genres of music. that way I get to hear a good amount of house music but I don't have to go digging through thousands of 90s US house records. call me a pleb, whatever. I just enjoy the UK stuff more, it has a different flavour, so to speak
>>
>>48649630

For you boys that hate on lo-fi music as of today I have a couple of genuine questions. No b8 m8s.

Why is it that the music's low fidelity becomes the defining feature of the music for you? To the point that lo-fi is considered a genre, to some extent. House is house music... or whatever subgenre of house is whatever subgenre that it is. If it's lo-fi or not is just its means of production. A banger is a banger regardless as to whether it's been fed through a cassette or not in the recording process, no?

Also, 10 years ago (or whatever) when labels such as Raster Noton were in their prime (like L.I.E.S. is now, do you think you'd have been like "ohhh, another really hi-fi release!" despite all the different styles of music that is released in such high fidelity.

It bugs me because dismissing production technique(s) for being 'too trendy' or a 'fad' or whatever is a ridiculously trendy / hipster thing to do. Why not just appreciate good music for what it is rather than how it was recorded?

derivative doesn't necessarily mean bad. look how much everyone praises soul music. and rough 2 isn't nearly as derivative as that. imo rough 2 is a pretty original track, i mean yes it uses breaks but in a pretty cool way. if you can find me other tracks that sound similar then fair enough but to me it's an interesting tune, that still goes off live
it's also not lad music. i doubt you'd be able to find any actual uniLAD types who would enjoy that EP. it's not catchy enough
