here, just got back from /darkshit/ night at a local nightclub. (umm I kind of have a crush on a girl I sometimes see there but don't tell her that >_>) Was fun seeing goths/emos/metalheads dancing to shit like Die Antwoord, Kavinsky and M83 that's barely/not-at-all related to /darkshit/ (since it's more of a general "dark alternative" night than straight-out "goth"/"industrial") mixed in with Joy Division and NIN. On that note, I'm in the mood for some mallgoth:

>>48461870
>>48461886
Well, theyre not entirely similar, but Lineham wrote for some of the stuff Morris did.
Lineham:
If you like making fun of the Catholic church(catholics still love the show, though)- Father Ted
If you enjoy making fun of wine drinking book reading middle class people- Black Books
If you enjoy tech/geek humor that isn't shitty like TBBT- IT Crowd
I've yet to really watch his latest venture, Count Arthur Strong.
Morris:
Dark satire, mocking pretty much everybody.
>TV
-The Day Today, mock news program featuring Alan Partridge. TV adaption of On the Hour.
-Brass Eye- mocking media and sensationalism. Offensive and controversial, one of my all time favorites. He tricked notable politicians and celebrities into endorsing insane shit on TV.
-Nathan Barley- making fun of hipsters in Britain, featuring the guys from Mighty Boosh and Ayoade from IT Crowd. Was made in 2002, so years ahead of Portlandia.
-Jam- TV adaption of Blue Jam. Spooky, creepy, very very very dark humor.
>Radio
On the Hour- mocking news radio. Fantastic, witty, a great listen.
Blue Jam- ambient radio series. Showcases Morris's love of ambient and electronic music like BoC, Bjork, and Aphex Twin. Just as spooky and dark as Jam.
>FIlm
Four Lions- dark comedy again. Making fun of dumb people doing dumb things. Morris probably has a bounty on his head now for some Islamic extremist organization.

industrial is shit like SPK or cabaret voltaire or NON
electro-industrial imo is my fav genre off industrial shit, aka skinny puppy and wumpscut
industrial rock is pretty good, earlier ministry or nine inch nails

>>48472990
>I mean I like that stuff a lot but nothing could be further from the truth as a description than "industrial"
I totally feel you bro it's cause a lot of actual industrial artists started making dance music like spk and skinny puppy was popular and incorporated a lot of the sound. Basically those were the stepping stones for the evolution of the word, that and industrial's true successors, noise and PE, already had names
im generally surprised there are gothfags and darkfags in here anyway
most just shit on stuff like DM

>>48472951
I think loads of straight away post-punk bands are pretty industrial in the original sense of the word. Joy Division for example
I agree that the term has been misconstrued and diluted since then and most modern industrial is weak. Telling someone you like industrial could be interpreted very badly

if you go to industrial disco ull prolly get cybergoth stuff and if you go to goth disco youll prolly get mallgoth or metalhead mix (NOT EVEN NU GOTHS, NU GOTHS LISTEN TO PRETTY NICE MUSIC WOAH) or sometimes youll just get the victorian goth stuff without original goth shit which isnt the worst but just annoying in some form
so ye
B(
>>48473545
>if you go to goth disco youll prolly get mallgoth or metalhead mix
This usually isn't bad stuff though.
>>48473174
>industrial is shit like SPK or cabaret voltaire or NON
Can we please just forget that NON exists
hey guys calm down
post punk had some contact with industrial and influenced industrial sounds plus vice versa, but i dont think you should call post punk a thing very close to industrial
its better to connect post punk with goth though there are two types (not officially but lets say) of post punk aka the lighter one which led to indie development and the darker one which led to goth development. so idk if were speaking about darkshit, its better to connect post punk to goth rather industrial - remember the cult bands siouxsie and the banshees or the cure - both produce(d) post punk AND goth rock BUT MOSTLY SOMETHING INBETWEEN.
>>48473633
im not fond of NON myself lmfao. its really weird to me
i like spk and cabaret voltaire tho. OH LETS NOT FORGET THROBBING GRISTLE but it even sounds more just experimental (prolly only bc its a pioneer or precursor of industrial)
You know what's funny about Shriekback?
That they're mostly playful, happy funk-inspired rock but they're almost only known for three /darkshit/ songs off of one album:

is sharespammer still a thing? I remember actually getting a couple cool darkwave albums from her
speaking of, the link for this was dead in the archive
Clan of Xymox - Medusa
>Darkwave, Ethereal Wave, Gothic Rock

>>48473758
not anymore, unfortunately
she brought some quality to this wretched hive
>>48473765
I don't think I've listened to any actual industrial...
>>48473808
aw :/
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
>Electro-Industrial, Industrial Rock, Sound Collage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEDgnYuZkRg
>>48473861
oh god yes Skinny Puppy
TDP is a brilliant album tho I also love VIVIsect VI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPlwBf5vVgw
Any fans of Beastmilk?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIrehsz_1a4
>>48473910
I was kind of mixed on it. I'v enever been too big a Skinny Puppy fan, but I thought that album was amazing. VIVIsectVI was less synthpoppy than some of their other stuff that I'm not fond of, but I don't feel it was as well-arranged or complex as Too Dark Park. Maybe I should give it a listen, I feel as though I may not have given Skinny Puppy a fair chance.
Chelsea Wolfe - Apokalypsis
>Gothic Rock, Post-Punk

Chelsea is fairly popular on /mu/, I just like that she's from my hometown. Not that she ever plays here...

Her music sounds more like indie hipster stuff than goth rock. I'm not saying it sounds bad, though.
Is there any darkwave that isn't completely corporate-sounding and derrivative? I'm listening to Clan of Xymox and sounds whatever but I can't help but feel the fakeness and corporateness about it all. I like gothic atmospheres, but more like Joy Division or early Bauhaus who, while popular, manage not to sound like complete sellouts to me.
>>48474229
What do you mean? Her guitar tones are pretty gothic I thought, idk what else to call it
>>48473355
Now that's some good stuff
>>48473447
Every club needs more militarism
Got hooked on Die Form recently thanks to one of the local DJs

Hesitant to make recommendations because typically when someone in a genre thread says "I like one or two examples of this genre buuuut...." they usually don't like whatever suggestions they're provided with.
>>48474380
I want to hear darkwave that doesn't sound really insincere if you understand where I'm coming from
I consider myself an open-minded person, I'd really appreciate if you had any suggestions
>>48474274
Lovely old school EBM. I'm going to see The Frozen Autumn, Mizar and Nachtmahr (yeah, yeah, they suck and Thomas Rainer is fat, but still it's a high profile act in this backwater)
>>48474258
I'm guessing you don't like the poppy feel of darkwave (most of it sounds like melancholic pop). You should try more post-punkish stuff like Pink Turns Blue, Sex Gang Children, Virgin Prunes, UK Decay, Ausgang, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry or Theatre of Hate.
>>48474437
I feel like Ego Likeness and ThouShaltNot (well, Seeming now since ThouShaltNot is no longer a thing) are fairly genuine but mostly because I follow those artists on social media and they have a very sincere attitude
>>48474490
This is probably along the lines of what you're looking for, as my couple of suggestions (as much as I love them) tend to be standard signed-to-Metropolis-Records fare
>>48474490
>>48474518
it's mainly synthpop/new wave that I can't into because I just get bored and feel like it's corporately manufactured to be emotional
I've heard Pink Turns Blue's first album and feel similarly about them. I will check out Sex Gang Now though
>>48474490
>>48474596
update, I just started a Sex Gang Children song
this is awesome, I love the drumming. is it really darkwave though?
>>48474639
Not him but I was under the impression that they were early goth
>>48474639
It's post-punk/gothic rock.
>>48474639
wtf sex gang is rather deathrock
>>48474703
>>48474707
See, I don't have any problem with post-punk, gothic rock, or deathrock
It's darkwave that I can't into because of how close it is to synthpop and it all just sounds really manufactured and insincere to me. I was just looking to see if anyone knew of any darkwave that doesn't sound like what I'm describing.
I'm drunk and I'm gouing to post:
Prometheus Burning - Blackmagick Tongue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBwqFvXv8I0
>because I have a feeling that none of you really know what's up with this genre lately
>>48474707
Their early stuff from Song and Legend, yes. Medea doesn't sound like deathrock at all.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgudlMuGqqY
>plebs the ;lot of you
>>48474672
they sound it
>>48474772
I've been following quite a few of the newer genre releases.
As a result I think I can safely say that if an artist was signed to Artoffact Records within the past 5 years it's probably a good pick
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRqUYxs3fwM
>you can thank/murder me later
>>48474899
Nadya, is that fucking you?
Not into mopey guitarey music, so have some electronic stuff of varying clubbiness

>Industrial
The Klinik - Fever
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRqUYxs3fwM
>>48475049
apoptygma and wumpscut often have better stuff. ioc or rotersand has few good tracks imo
>>48475068
Off the top of my head, Deine Lakaien, Die Form, Project Pitchfork, Das Ich, Diorama
>>48472643
Wasn't into it. I was looking for more sad, gloomy, dark stuff. Thanks, though.
>>48475068
But Diary of Dreams isn't neoclassical darkwave at all.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUR-wWhmsS8
Mephisto
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRqUYxs3fwM

>>48475248

Rose Red Flechette
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sOOARC0jgc&index=4
>>48475354
probably 1 to be honest
I wasn't used to any of the production things yet and it was fucking awesome
not that the rest of the show isn't good
>>48475375
I don't think Malice Mizer is darkwave.
>>48475226
Haven't dug deep in the discography due to my massive backlog, but I guess the older stuff should be less clubby
>>48475375
Also don't forget Lacrymosa
>>48475248
Dead Can Dance obviously, even though their later albums seem to drop the darkwave stuff and become just 'ethnic-world-fusion".
Try also Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows.
>>48475436
not darkwave, it's considered to be NEOCLASSICAL darkwave which makes a difference like hella
but k im not arsed
>>48475401
Is the first one the one where that guy explodes and it's just a head left on the floor?
>you and he were buddies, wer-ent youo
>>48475477
but then Diary of Dreams doesn't sound like Darkwave or Neoclassical Darkwave
what is it then
>>48475436
Malice Mizer is not really consistent in genres.

>I know this pretty goth girl, I always think about her...
I see what you did there
>mallgoths
Holy shit that's the first time I've heard that on /mu/ in like 2 years. It used to come up in every thread.
>>48474328
>Every club needs more militarism
Would slightly disagree as people who fetishize militarism tend to be annoying douchebags
>>48477070
Yeah, the term and those who are labelled as such have been on the decline as of 2007.
>>48478449
There's the occasional /pol/ack with a leather trenchcoat, but in my area the ones who go the whole hog with military dressup are the scene elders.
