what are the jazz rap essentials?
Blowout Combs by Digable Planets, everything by Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Gang Starr
This album here.
Its very good imo.
Madlib's stuff is pretty jazz-y, check out Madvillainy, PiƱata, and his work as Quasimoto.

De La Soul
also seconding Digable Planets and Madlib, and monitoring this thread. My love for jazz rap far exceeds my knowledge of it.

Not officially jazz rap, but had a big influence
everything that's been mentioned so far, also: main source, camp lo, peanut butter & charisma, and early common. Also anything that J dilla, madlib, q-tip, dj premier, or pete rock put their hands on is garaunteed to be top notch
