Yes. This album is literally fucking perfection. Low had many tracks which felt underbaked and half done, the ambient tracks ranged from fucking great to slightly dull. On here the poprock stuff is fantastic, upbeat, danceable, while the ambient side is very entertaining, intriguing, and calming.

Nope. Low is better in almost every way. All the ambient tracks on it are better than the ones on Heroes, particularly Subterraneans. The songs on Low are catchier and shorter, meaning there's more fun ideas put into less space.

Heroes is closer to being a proper Bowie album, but I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoy Low. Hell, I enjoy Lodger more than Heroes.

1. Low
2. Ziggy Stardust
3. Station to Station
4. Blackstar
5. Hunky Dory
6. Lodger
7. The Next Day
8. Heroes
9. Scary Monsters
10. Aladdin Sane
11. Heathen
12. Reality
13. Young Americans
14. Space Oddity
15. Outside
16. The Man Who Sold the World
17. Tonight
18. Earthling
19. Diamond Dogs
20. Let's Dance
21. Hours
22. Black Tie White Noise
23. Never Let Me Down
24. Pin Ups
25. David Bowie

ziggy is nice
blackstar is really cool

where do I go from here?

FROM NOTHING
>>
>>61786219
>The songs on Low are catchier and shorter

this is definitely part of the reason I like Low better. it feels much more fast paced than other Bowie albums. some of the songs on Heroes go on too long.
>>
>>61786260
In what way is my taste contrarian at all? Saying Heroes is your favorite is absolutely contrarian. The agreed upon triumvirate is Low, Station to Station, and Ziggy.

>>61786286
If you haven't listened to Lodger, do Lodger,

Also Station to Station.

Also Remain in Light by Talking Heads, but I'm sure you've heard that one by now. If you love Eno, you love that record.
>>
>>61786468
>Also Remain in Light by Talking Heads, but I'm sure you've heard that one by now. If you love Eno, you love that record.
yeah ofc I love remain in light (and my life in the bush as well)

thanks fàm I'll listen to lodger then

>>
>>61786468
Aladdin Sane god damn it.
>>
Heroes has a better sound, but Low is much more cohesive. I love both, as well as Hunky Dory for almost following the same format with andy warhol but then ending on the beginning tone.
>>
>>61786514
Every time someone says they like Diamond Dogs, they defend their choice with this same exact song.

Yes, Sweet Thing is good. Rebel Rebel is good. What else is even remotely worthwhile off it?

Honestly it's an album that focused too much on the dystopian narrative no one followed over the music. If you need evidence of that, the best song on the record needed a reprise to pad things out.

1984 and Big Brother are particularly middle of the road. I get he was writing an album based off 1984, but I really wish he re-titled the songs and changed the lyrics for Diamond Dogs. As they stand, it just feels lazy, like it cuts the narrative while making it too obvious as to what he was going for.

Bowie has lots of amazing records. Diamond Dogs is not one of them.
>>
>>61786557
you need to keep in mind that he wanted to turn those songs into a musical, so the narrative isn't going to flow that well. it's to be expected.

ranking it lower than Tonight and Earthling is mind-boggling
Bowie also produced the record by himself and played lead guitar and sax.
>>
>>61786219
low isn't low enough

black tie white noise is more of a bowie's masterpiece than low

sadly for your taste
>>
>>61786557
We Are The Dead is a GOAT song tbqhwy.
>>
>>61786076
ffs, it's David Bowie Live at the Philadelphia Tower.
Just listen to it, Jesus Christ.
>>
>>61786557
It's not really an album you can judge per-song, they all flow well into the next and fit to a cohesive sound. You're judging a would-be musical.

Plus how can you not like Rock & Roll With Me
>>
>>61786772
i love every song on the album
i don't understand people who don't think it's one of his best albums
>>
"Heroes" and Low are OBJECTIVELY his two best albums
>>
>>61786831
triggered
>>
>>61786823

I love it and also the fact that he played most of the guitar on it.
>>
TALKIN BOUT THE DIAMOND DOGS
>>
>>61786598
Earthling is more listenable to me than Diamond Dogs, but I don't care much for either.

Tonight is not a bad record. Loving the Alien and Dancing with the Big Boys are fantastic songs, and his cover of Neighborhood Threat is stellar.
The only song on Tonight that's outright bad is the cover of God Only Knows.
>>
I was into the sound on Low, and loved Another Green World by Eno

>literally the /mu/ contrarian rankings

I love the Berlin trilogy, but it's so fucking overrated compared to the rest of his discography. Especially Lodger, that album belongs in the far back of his catalog alongside the self-titled and Pin Ups

Also,
>Ziggy at 2, Aladdin at 10, Diamond Dogs at 19
the fuck?
>>
>>61787391
I'd say that given thenumber of different styles he tried and implemented it's hard to create an all time THIS IS OBJECTIVELY BEST list.
All you can do is agree which ones are weak.
>>
>>61787391
It's really not overrated at all, and Lodger is fucking amazing and underrated as all hell.

I'll take the Berlin trilogy over his glam period any day, and I adore Ziggy.
>>
>>61786772
>>61786823
Well I'm glad there are people that enjoy it. Personally, I just can't get into it.

My ranking: Top 10 (14) Bowie albums
1. The Man Who Sold The World, Low, Heathen, Blackstar
2. Station to Station
3. Scary Monsters
4. Heroes
5. Hunky Dory
6. Ziggy Stardust
7. The Next Day
8. Diamond Dogs
9. Outside
10. Space Oddity

You proved my point, Lodger's one of his weakest albums by far.
>>
>>61787723
>Muh rock N roll xD
>>
>>61787762
That's literally Aladdin Sane.
>lol gene genie is sooo good xD
All The Madmen is a fucking masterpiece, and so is most of the other songs.
>>
>>61787753
How did I prove your point exactly?

I prefer Lodger over Heroes, I don't just like it because muh Berlin trilogy. What do you not like about it?

Honestly, in terms of pure momentum, it's his most consistent and energetic record barring Ziggy.

>>61787723
I like Aladdin Sane, but it's not my favorite by any means. I don't get this post.
>>
>>61787762
Aladdin Sane has a few GOAT's, but also some clunkers.
Title track, Time and Lady Grinning Soul are GOAT, but Watch that Man, Spend The Night, Jean Genie and Prettiest Star are mediocre to bad. Same poster as above.

This is his best album by far, although it's still only a 7/10.
>>
Station to Station is the best Bowie album. The perfect balance between Berlin Bowie and Plastic Soul Bowie. It's the best prologue the Berlin Trilogy could've had, the title track and TVC15 were a sign of things to come.
>>
>>61786772
>>61786823
I have a really beat up copy of Diamond Dogs with a light white stain on the tracking of Rock & Roll With Me. It doesn't really affect it, but the pops and scratches really fit the mood the album.
>>
>>61790205
It's too meandering in places and long to be his best. 7/10 seems right though

There is no definitive ranking! There are only tiers to Bowie's work.

Tier 1
>HunkyDory
>Ziggy
>Station To Station
>Low
>Heroes
>Scary Monsters

Tier 2
>Young Americans
>Aladdin Sane
>Let's Dance
>Heathen
>Blackstar

Tier 3
>Diamond Dogs
>TMWSTW
>The Next Day
>Buddha
>Black Tie

Tier 4
>everything else

Nope, I love "Heros" something about it just doesn't jell for me. You get a very compelling first half then the ambient stuff starts... Oh lordy! It starts to feel a bit mixed up. Low has this very unearthly feeling to it and everything just clicks together. Granted, "Heros" is still a great album it just feels unfocused when compared to Low.

1. Scary Monsters
2. Low
3. Aladdin Sane
4. Hunky Dory
5. Ziggy Stardust
6. Outside
7. Diamond Dogs
8. Station to Station
9. Lodger
10. Young Americans
11. Black Star
12. Heathen
13. Reality
14. "Heros"
15. Let's Dance
16. Space Oddity
17. The Next Day
18. The Man who sold the world
19. Budda of Suburbia
20. Hours
21. Black Tie White Noise
22. Pin ups
23. David Bowie
24. Tonight
25. Never let me Down
