>tfw haven't slept in 36 hours
>been doing large essay I neglected to do
>body feels warm and fuzzy
>smoke cigs in my car because I have a better system there than in my room
>read that Kevin Shields utilized sleep deprivation to write most of his music
>decide to blast Loveless as loud as possible
>starts snowing hardcore-squall mode
>feels like I'm sitting in a cloud with pink fuzz coming at me in all directions

Eh, I'm tired, idk how much sense that made, but sleep deprivation is a hell of a feel...

What did you think of this? First track is really good.
>>
>>53695853
it makes me hopeful that people are actually going interesting things with shoegaze now. It's really great, sweet melodic baselines.

I met some guys who listen to shoogays and they want me to play guitar in their band. I have a bunch of pedals, but haven't done anything unique with any of the sounds yet... I mostly just use the chorus, reverb, fuzzes and distortions, the rest I got as gifts and never knew what do do with. Can I get reverse reverb from my dd-6, or is that a rumor?

>Not chained in this order
>DD-6 Delay
>RV-5 Reverb
>BF-3 Flanger
>CE-5 Chorus
>FZ-5 Fuzz
>DS-1 Distortion
>SD-1 Super Overdrive
>MXR Bass Octave
>DeviEver Shoegazer (saw it at GC used for $100/must buy, but the fuzz is a little overwhelming)
>thru a Marshall AVT-150h valve
>Obligatory Fender JM

Anyone got any recs for cool shoegaze-y sounds I could get out of these?
>>
>>53696730
You're probably better off with guitar general.
>>
>>53696730
just start with the fuzz and throw some reverb ,delay and chorus at it and boom shoegaze sounds
>>
>>53696730
idk but try not to make it sound too similar to any one else's shoegazes

ocean themed catchy shoegaze / noise pop video to go with OP

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXMt5ajaEd8

seriously, it bugs me more than it should how little mention this band gets here
>>
>>53696898

Yeah, thats why I need to ask. The shoegazer pedal + reverb pedal turned up all the way on acoustic simulator is ===== to JAMC sound. Can't get the MBV sound for anything but 'When You Sleep', and even still, I think it could be more authentic. Might get rid of unused pedals and trade for ones I need. Recs?

>>53696858
I guess I have to play with the levels of each - I try that and it just sounds like garbage, not even artfully sucky, just feedback-y. I think I might sell my 150 wt. Marshall for a more portable 75 watt Orange or something too, maybe someone will pay more than I bought it for haha

Still taking more recs for sound ideas if anybody minds giving them. Not looking to jack anybody's sound, but just wanna hear what has shoegazy potential with my rig.
>>
>>53696858

if you want the plebest of pleb tones do this.
get a few nice delay pedals with all the frills like reverse, crazy delay settings, etc. get some cool panning from some phaser or something get a reverse reverb/a ton of reverb. use your whammy/tremolo bar to play and play with the pitch, along with the rhythm of your delay. and get a bunch of experimental BS, whether its a basic little sampler or looping pedal, to add uniqueness. Also, really focus on your distortion tone because its important. you dont want a metal-like gain sound, and you really dont want the generic lo fi indie fuzz either. From my experience clean/dream pop sounds are ust basic reverb/delay/chorus, blah blah

you can do a lot with basic pedals too, but most of the sound comes from toying with what you have and creating unique textures or timbre or whatever

can i get some good blackgaze recs besides sunbather?
>>
>>53711518
one guy recommended me Paysage d'Hiver saying they should be considered blackgaze because they put a huge focus on texture. I guess people call them atmospheric black metal though
>>
>>53711602
that's good enough, i think those pretty much fall within each other. like i'd say the sounds on burzums filosofem has many borderline shoegaze elements, and it's obviously atmospheric like most black metal tends to be anyways

You got that right anon, sometimes sleep deprivation just makes you feel like shit: you feel week and tired and sometimes get flu like symptoms, but times like you described are what I love sleep deprivation for, when you break through and lose yourself in a haze

I read I'm the 33 1/3 that pretty much all of Isnt Anything was recorded while sleep deprived. He'd sleep two hours every night, then just record.

I'm listening to this for the first time right now and it's feeling like a breathier, less melancholic, more drug-fueled Sweet Trip during their third album.

Way more post-punk than anything. Only What Does Anything Mean? Basically and like a few tracks on Why Call It Anything? are semi-dream pop.
