Try this signal chain. I post it from time to time. Did it up for a friend in about ten minutes because he was sick of how meh Guitar Rig always sounds.

Noisegate (REAPER VST) -60db
Compressor (GuitarRig, but any would do)
TSE808
Noisegate (REAPER VST) -60db
Parametric EQ adding +4db to 120Hz
The Anvil preamp (lead channel)
NadIR running ASEM V30 on left and right in dual mono.
Parametric EQ cutting -2db at 240Hz
High Pass at 60Hz

>>
>>61134231
Why do people do this? You don't NEED a guitar amp VST if you're just gonna DI it.

Honestly I prefer to put some bullshit effects on it myself, but I'm an IDM guy so it does kind of come with the territory.
I personally do have the Waves GTR stuff because it came with the bundle and I use it occasionally, but if you already have a nice distortion pedal or something, you might as well just use that.
>>
>>61134275
Not him, but a lot of guitarist use VSTs so they can practice with headphones and/or at night. It's not about DI recording usually.
>>
Any UK anons ordered from ishibashi? What was the shipping like? Was the guitar in good shape when it arrived? Want to get myself a Japanese Jazzmaster
>>
>>61134287
I'm Australian, but I got >>61134270 that guitar from Ishibashi.

Came quickly, shipping was well priced, didn't pay any import tax either somehow. Guitar was well packed and in perfect condition when I got it.
>>
>>61134275
Some people don't have a guitar amp, like myself.
>>
>>61134293

Got a '62 Jazz Bass from U-Box a couple of months ago.

Checking daily for an Olympic/Vintage white and maple fretboard '57 Strat to pop up

Or maybe a Japanese Ibby RG under JPY90,000

>>61134287

The sales guy will e-mail you the specs and condition of the guitar that you want to buy

>ordered Sunday
>shipped Monday
>arrived Thursday.

10/10 bretty gud would buy again
>>
>>61134383
Does Ishibashi sell used gear anymore? I heard they stopped awhile back.
>>
Have a fender ramparte coming in the mail today, hopefully it sounds better than my frontman 25r, never owned a tube amp.
I'm thinking of trying to switch out the pickups on my agile al-2000, never done it before, guess I need to learn to solder. Maybe switch out the pots also?
>>
>>61134283
>>61134308
But still, you're DIing, right? Like, you DI into the computer somehow and then you have speakers/headphones to play out from? I personally find that I don't need a guitar amp VST if I have a nice, cheap distortion pedal or something (Boss DS-2 is the one I have), and if I want clean tones I just leave it alone. I might use a compressor for volume but that's about it. Unless I'm misunderstanding you guys.
>>
>>61134437
Soldering is easy and fun once you get the hang of it.

And if you're getting a new tube amp, you might as well wait until you get it before messing with your guitar's parts, so you know what it sounds like before and after with the same equipment.
>>
>>61134444
Pedal distortion is worse than VST simulation, and my only pedal is a fuzz face clone with bias presets set for bass guitar.
>>
>>61134444
It's essentially just an alternative to a guitar amplifier. A decent VST setup will sound better than a pedal running straight into a DI box or Interface.
>>
>>61134458
It'll be awhile before I try soldering, need to buy a solder gun/pickups, that's a future project.
>>
>>61134459
>>61134469
I dunno, I've found my BOSS to do a good job, honestly. Then again, it's also true that pedals run the gamut from excellent to terrible, much as VSTs run the gamut from great to horrible.

Then again maybe I just have lower standards, haha.
>>
>>61134287
American here, I don't have any experience with ishibashi, but I just ordered a guitar from ikebe-gakki, and it was a great experience. Very fast shipping, packaging was very secure, and they had good communication throughout the entire process.
>>
>>61134506
Try >>61134270 at some point. It'll shit on running a DS-2 direct.

TSE808 is level 10, drive 0, tone to taste (5-10) and set gain on The Anvil pretty close to 0.

Obviously make sure you're using an interface.
>>
>>61134399
U-Box my nigga

Keep lurking for a Japanese JM if you really want one. I haven't seen one appear in a long time. I saw a J. Mascis last week and the usual >muh 1960 vintage JM that sells for JPY2,000,000.

They never run out of Jaguars and Mustangs though.
>>
>>61134543
Must just be through their EBay Store then.

I'm not the anon looking for that guitar.
>>
>>61134522
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll have reverbs and EQs and compressors and whatnot, I just don't use a VST for distortion. Anyway, in my case I'm talking about recording for IDM type stuff, so typically I end up throwing whatever I want to at it, including some fucked up VSTs, not to mention making some automation lanes for some parameters afterwards.
>>
>>61134573
They're almost certainly talking about using it to practice at home. Electronic music production context isn't really relevant here.

On that note, I tend to run some simulation of some kind even when doing a DI. It's easier to track a guitar that way and I can just reamp it anyway later.
>>
>>61134576
I guess that's true. Still, you could just DI with a distortion pedal like I said, and slap EQs/compressors/reverbs on top of that and it'd still work fine. Again, it would depend on the quality of those VSTs too, but it's completely doable.
>>
>>61134609
It would sound worse than free VSTs.

Upgrading my squier /gg/

Depends if it's a good Squier or a shit Squier.

Don't waste money upgrading a Bullet or Affinity, just buy a better guitar.

Gonna change my mind and say fuck it, why not?
If you'd brought it a year ago then it wouldn't be worth it, but any guitar you've enjoyed for 12 years deserve a little upgrade I guess.

Sure it's cheaper but it isn't really worth the money. A newer better instrument is a much wiser investment.

Unless it's a situation like this where the guy clearly loves his 12 year old Squier and isn't trying to just tart up a cheap guitar.

So far I've only played guitar on my PC using Amplitube or other VST. I also had a cheap Fender amp once but sold it because the sound was not as good as from my computer.

Am I missing something? Is a tube amp much better and fun to play with?
>>
>>61135604
>>61135625
I'm trying to learn basic chords at the moment and just in general finding my way around the guitar and seeing what the different knobs and dials do.

I was thinking of picking up Rocksmith, seems like it would be a fun way to practice (but not learn the guitar completely of course)

>>61135649
Huh, what?
>>
>>61135678
There is nothing like a good tube amp. but not everyone has 1200+ to spend. I like solid state, and believe there are a lot of quality solid state amps out there. But I'm sure there are people that would disagree with me.

How much do you want to spend?
>>
>>61135695
take your time, anon.

If you've never played an instrument before, you'll be discovering muscles you never knew existed.

Not sure what I think of Rocksmith, but it might be great for you, same with Justinguitar.

Some of the Hal Leonard books are really good - scanned copies can be found in the usual places.

A distortion pedal doesn't do amp and speaker modelling.

Anyway, I got a question for you guys. I'm running my guitar into my iPad (running PositiveGrid Bias) with an iRig 2 interface, and when I load most gainy amps from the tone-cloud, I get an extremely high pitched ringing/squealing sound that doesn't even go away when I turn the volume knob completely down on my guitar most of the time.

pls halp

PS. I'm running the sound out from the iRig 2 to a DI box that sends a Low Z signal to the mic input on my PC and I turned up the playback volume on the microphone signal so I can monitor my sound through my computer speakers. Is this a retarded, ass backwards way of doing things? How SHOULD I set this up so I can monitor through my computer speakers?

I had to refinish a guitar when I used that stuff, it was still getting indentations from leaving it on a stand after about a year.

If you're going to use spray cans I would use Minwax Lacquer if you can get it. Really nice nitro finish.

Guy that bought the Les Paul here with a question about amps and sound.

My amp seems to have only two settings. Clean, which means basically no sounds produced by the amp, and "Modern", which distorts it quite a lot.

Sounds like it starts on a minor 7th chord and descends diatonically. Just a guess, I don't have my guitar with me to dick around and try to figure it out. Just practice your 7th chords and check out songs like "Treasure" by Bruno Mars and "Long Train Running" by the Doobie Bros. Use a compressor to get the kind of clean guitar tone you want. Practice using syncopation and inserting rests to break up the rhythm across the measure.

Economy picking takes out a part of the pick attack, so it will sound a bit smoother compared to alternate.

Do I need some kind of software for running my sound through my amp into my computer so that I can listen to other shit while messing around with my guitar?

I've already got it connected via USB so that I can modify the settings and so on, but I can't make it play the sounds of the guitar in my headphones without connecting the headphones directly to the amp.

They have a row of magnets more. The wang of the string is picked up in a larger field. Depends where the third magnet row is. The closer to the neck the more mellow and bassier the sound. The closer to the bridge, the more the high frequencies come through.

Because they get shoved money in their kike asses for playing those pieces of crap in public.

So impressionable people think they are worth a bit more than a used baby wipe.

Furthermore, they have custom built guitars. Worth several K. Any blueprint series by Dean is horseshit. Sorry bub, you play a shit guitar. Sell it and with the few bucks you get from that get a knife and cut your fingers off. Or save for an actual guitar man.

>Is a tube amp much better and fun to play with?
yes, but they're expensive.
The most worthwhile money I ever spent on my playing was getting an old Silverface Fender Champ as an upgrade from a Peavey practice amp. The difference in tone was night and day. All of a sudden I liked how I sounded, my distortion pedals became much smoother sounding, and the cleans...well, they're Fender cleans, but at living room levels. It made me a tube amp devotee for the next 20 years. Even now I only really like SS stuff for bass, where the super-fast response is essential and clean power is the name of the game.
But again-price. At the time those Champs were like $175, so it made more sense then than now, when they're going for $600.
But you can get good tube amps for less than that price too-the Fender Blues Jr only retails for $400 and is a fantastic sounding amp.

Pick one.

Those Crates were literally the worst, cheapest built, worst sounding tube shit on the market when they came out. They weren't built well, don't last and are a fucking nightmare to get fixed.
Maybe they're useful for something if you need that classic "mid-90s poorfag metalhead with shitty gear" tone, but honestly that's not really something people seek out.
>>
>>61139923
beautiful.
>>

Because one side of the pickup is much closer to the strings than the other.

Turn the screws on the sides of the pickups so that all of your strings are in balance volume-wise.

I think learning a bit of piano helps because piano is kinda the Rosetta Stone of instruments for musicians.

No, all Crate build quality is absolute shit.
Some companies compete on price by having low overhead, others by low labor costs. SLM-era crate competed in the marketplace by using the absolute cheapest components they could find. As a result, the sound and reliability of those amps are very hampered.
It is not uncommon to hear of Crate amps failing due to circuit boards warping from the heat generated by the tubes, or traces popping off, or pot shafts snapping off. And the construction is pure particle board, which starts disintegrating the moment it gets water splashed on it.

>>61141252

>>
>>61141252

Mastery if you want to spend the money, but a regular, US/Mexican Mustang bridge will be more than adequate. And I think Staytrem falls somewhere in the middle price-wise.

>inb4 keep JM bridge and bump string gauge up
>>
>>61141845
If you're a ham-fisted oaf and/or really bad at setting up guitars, you might have problems with knocking the strings off the saddles on a regular JM bridge. This doesn't usually happen on a Mastery, but they're expensive and they alter the tone.
The Classic Player JM doesn't have this problem though, as it has a tune-o-matic style bridge, and the trem is closer to the bridge to increase the break angle.

It used to be that stuff was exclusively the realm of rack effects, but it's only recently that it's is able to be fit into a stomp box, powered by a 9v battery and sold at a reasonable price.
