How's Paavo Järvi's Mahler?

You're not supposed to play Church music with that much passionate movement.

Thoughts on Aine O Dwyer?

It wasn't that particular performance, just the piece. I heard it played very nicely about a month ago and had forgotten to take a note of the name.

>director is jewish
>it's ok, /pol/ exaggerates after all..
>his interview on national TV.. he's dressed with jacket and t-shirt
>yeah so my vision of Jeanne d'arc.. she's like modern jihadists.. she was religious, and I blame her father for this, so she lived her sexuality in a very conflicted manner.. so because of this she wanted to sacrifice herself killing the enemies, that's why her mission.. because she wants to go to heaven you know.. anyway she has sex with king Carl.. but she feels guilty so she burns at the stake in order to repent.. you know..so yeah, oh and anyway, it's only her fantasy, everything you'll see on stage just happens in her head because she's crazy

It's not church music.
Mein junges Leben hat ein End was a popular song at the time and Sweelinck wrote a nice set of variations on it.

I asked in the last thread, but I never got a chance to see if there were replies.
Did Hanon write any music other than piano exercises?
What are some modern niggas worth paying attention to
>>61014283
yeah, it's pretty good. very consistent in terms of the singing performances (not so consistent in regards to the cast, but this is due to the older traditions being instilled on Karajan in which very often Siegfrieds would change from Siegfried -> Gotterdammerung, and even Wotans would change from Das Rheingold - > Die Walkure -> Siegfired. This was usually done for the purpose of showing that they are basically different "characters" in a sense throughout all three operas or something).
but yeah, it's a good recording. overall very good narration job on the part of Karajan and the orchestra, decent and consistent quality of singing, relatively good diction.
it's main issue is that it's too slow and the sound quality is somewhat lacking.

the motets and the rondeaux are incredible. I reccomend you get a hold of ensemble musica nova's take on the motets (it's on rutracker). their interpretation of the sixteenth is one of the best things i've heard in all of music. no youtube sample unfortunately :(

It's a production of Les Troyens. I saw it done by the Mariinsky under Gergiev a few years back. Pretty enjoyable in general, although a couple of the leads weren't great and the aesthetic of the whole thing was a bit disjointed.
