For what it is, it's very good. It's one of my favorite releases of the year but it felt like more of a padded EP to me. They had already released Back Pocket and Christmas in LA in full, the opener being a medley and the closer being a brief summary of the Mushy Krongold album, and then Walkies being criminally short, it leaves you with like 6 solid songs.
That being said, all of those songs are fucking amazing. I especially love what they've done with Rango II. Smile Meditation and Conscious Club push fantastic "cool funk" new age r&b feeling that I've never heard Vulfpeck reach before. Game Winner and Back Pocket both show obvious classic r&b influence. Funky Duck really shows what was missing from this album, however. All of their previous EP's (maybe apart from Mit Peck) feel more improvised and dirty, which has been polished out in Thrill of the Arts. The songs feel less like jams and more studio recorded with parts and effects added in afterwards. Funky Duck really gives us that feeling, and it's only 2 minutes long.
I think it's a beautiful stepping stone for Vulfpeck, but I'm excited to see how they're going to change and evolve in the future. I also want to see how they're going to tackle Conscious Club'sv
>>60917454
fucking hell.
Conscious club's vocals. My overall thoughts are that it's a fantastic album, but not AOTY. I've been bumping it ever since release.
this.

>>60917487
How? It's not bad, I actually did like it, but calling this the album of the year just makes you seem desperate to show you have good taste in music or something

I still think I like their 2002 album more.
https://youtu.be/Qq8ncIfnVhw
It's more raw, perhaps less experimental, but it's just top notch nu-jazz.
>>60917905
and? this is about 2015
more proof you're fucking lazy

Summertime 06 by Vince Staples had the potential to be AOTY, had it been shorter (1 disc) and had a few of the songs from Hell Can Wait EP thrown in.

new album in February
So far it's Garden of Delete but Oblivion Access still might topple it.
Also, DALE is definitive summercore (memers can fuck off) and It Follows is the best movie OST.

>>60917969

How does the fact it's norwegian even matters? And how am I the one playing it safe? You're the one with stuff like Kendrick and Montreal in your top albums.
>>60917531

>AOTY 2015
>>60917213
One of the most underappreciated albums of the year
>>60918819
There are some highlights on this but yeah not their best.
I do think Lousy with Sylvianbriar is their best output to date, and this album has those musicians on there too so that's a plus
