Hey /mu/ whats the local music scene like in you city
>>
There's two scenes

There's the metalcore & pop punk scene which is a clusterfuck of all internet culture from 2006-2010 and other current memes, there's a couple ok bands everyone else is shit , however they tend to throw the best parties.

Then there's the "underground" rock scene which is most shitty garage/experimental/avant-garde shit, it's nothing spectacular and the crowds are usually duller than Sunday school and people within this scene don't tend to party. I usually will hit up a show here, but turn up at the pop punk house parties.

Nothing to write home about, but at least Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays I know I can always hear local music.
>>
Jazz, blue, metal, and a small ska punk scene. Guess where I'm from
>>
>>50351957

Either Florida or Kansas
>>
>>50351785
rochester ny is fucking bullshit tier "hardcore" music
it's like people are stuck in mid 00's with tattoos and gym shorts.

or some sort of pussy indie scene, i reckon
>>
it's Detroit, so everything
>>
Our scene is a small room in the back of the local community center.

You get four choices
a) Cover bands from the 60's-80's
b) teenagers playing pop punk covers
c) spoken word, that isn't even worth checking out
d) sketch/improv comedy.
>>
Texas brocore and christian pop-punk
>>
a few sucky alt bands who try hard to be cool, its really bad
>>
>>50351976
Nope. New Orleans. Jazz, Blues, and Metal are the biggest scenes here. Also a big hip hop one but is there really a place without a hip hop scene anymore?
>>
compared to other people in this thread the pop punk scene here is pretty tolerable

it isnt just covers of blink

oh, and a few ska punk bands, too.
>>
Faggots with acoustic guitars playing generic indie folk or really shitty club beats - take a guess.
>>
My town has less than 3,000 people, so it's literally nonexistent.
>>
shitty rock bands on the north side
usually unknown but good rappers on the west side (and some decent rock bands)
shit rappers and GOAT electro on the south side
cancerous pop punk bands in the suburbs
>>
>Pretty big deathcore/metalcore scene
>A few actual metal bands (mostly death and thrash)
>An average sized underground hardcore scene
>Apparently there's a lot of pop-punk, but I'm not aware of it
>small indie acoustic coffee-shop scene

Phoenix
>>
san diego.......nothing

>>
>>50351988

>>
>>50352084
Everyone describe and everyone guess.
>>
A lot of shitty metal/sludge/psychedelic rock bands but a few great ones too.

There's a music scene? I haven't been able to find it here. Then again, I'm spoiled by being from LA.
>>
>Rosarito/Tijuana.

Pretty good to be honest.
>>
>>50352101

Pretentious noise shows and pretentious hardcore shows.

>>
>>50352097

>>
>>50352196

the pop punk bands is what gave it away...god it sucks I have to travel and hour and a half to check out good music.
>>
>>50352143
Nothing more pretentious than the two most straight forward genres of music in the history of music
>>
Obnoxious cover bands
some eh country
clueless, directionless bar rock. That sometimes perform covers.
>>
>>50352295
you could always just hold onto that early slipknot.
>>
>>50352035
boulder co
>>
How do you guys get involved in your local scene?
>>
>>50353154
You can either write a blog, do music videos and interviews
help get venues to play local shows
rent out spaces etc.
hell just even attend and mingle breh

Nashville. So I see tons of people for hella cheap
in 2 weeks Run the Jewels for $15
a couple weeks ago Ty Segall and Strand of Oaks.
tomorrow night Chromeo (gonna be fun as hell)
next month Thee Oh Sees
>>
it's Portland. it's a lot of things
>>
>>50351785
SoCal
It used to be mainly Pop Punk but now it's usually just Deathcore. Pomona Glass House and the Anaheim Chain Reaction are the two main venues and a lot of my favorite bands come to do gigs. Seeing Thy Art Is Murder and Born of Osiris in a couple weeks.
>>
>pop rock trash
>"country" "music"
>a few 2006 -core bands (the ones with "pig squealing")
>sum boring white people jazz
>rest are unremarkable dadrock cover bands

I don't even bother telling people I produce "techno"

>Oh u mean like in Digital Dreams?
>>
>ITT dumb high school/freshmen college kids want to be in their shitty local scene no one cares about
>Implying it's not all just gonna be laptops in the future
>>
>>50352066
dubs and I both confirm that the SD scene is fucking dead
>>
Lots of grindcore and punk, oh and tons of techno. Where am I anons

Lots of emo, post-rock, indie rock, good shit
>>
In my Saint P we have small crust/sludge scene and a bit of others genres. In 2007 it was only dark wave scene and emo/metalcore
>>
>>50351998
People always say Detroit's scene is great and huge. I finally have a car now, how do I find said scene?
>>
>>50353321
anything to write "home" about?
>>
San Francisco here. Lots and lots of dreampop / synthpop
>>
>>50351785
Philadelphia
It's shit
Lots of hipsters making shitty punk that they think is super deep and meaningful
Makes me sick
>>
>>50353392
what kind of scene anon? If grindcore/punk I can help
>>
>>50353470
as in noteworthy artists?
>>
>>50353204
idk anything really much about rochester's bands cept from what i've heard of.. started living here a few years ago and all i've done was work, i'm from the southern tier, sadly lol

if we had an electronic scene i would love this area so much more
>>
>>50353530
Yeah, anyone you particularly like from your area
>>
Punk, butt rock, and one good post rock band. Also I hear there's a death metal scene here, but I have yet to find it. I live by a famous small venue on the east side. Where am I?
>>
lots of hardcore and punk
glorified college city, but i still fucking love it

any guesses?
>>
>>50352066
>>50353277
Duble dubs confirm SD's music scene is dead. Also, it's seriously fucking nonexistent.
>>

Are these all Spur?
>>
>>50353557
Yeah that electronic scene is pretty much dead here, there was one in the late 90s.

I like a few indie bands here and the subvert scene is pretty good. Joywave is from here and theyre alright.
>>
>>50351879
06515? :0
>>
>>50353918
Unfortunately I don't have pics of Spur :(
The first one you tagged is In Writing
and the second you tagged is Midland City. I can find pics of Spur though
>>
We have lots of really shitty christian rock bands and a few pretty mediocre high school bands who just play covers of The 1975 and The Arctic Monkeys

fuck, man.
>>
>>50353944
Ah, it was tricky telling them apart because they both have qt guitarists (unless it's the same person in both bands)
>>
>>50353918
here is Spur (best I could find)
>>
>>50353969
Yep that's what I get for living in a New Zealand city of 50,000 I guess
>>
>>50353976
Nice, you've got a good scene in (I'm guessing) Easton
>>
>>50353975
in writing and spur have the same girl! shes a great guitarist
>>
>>50353999
Man, that's pretty funny
I just thought it was a coincidence!
Does this create any rivalries between bands?
Or does she just end up playing two sets at shows with each band?
>>
>>50354044
There are a lot of double players. Usually the bands are different enough or the person plays different instruments that it's not an issue. Some shows have kids playing 2 or (rarely) 3 sets. It's pretty normal and at bigger shows it usually only happens once or twice.
>>
Tempe/Phoenix is a pretty cool scene. Only been here for like a year and a half. Lots of house shows eery weekend.
>>
>>50354086
That's pretty cool, I pretty much only play in my one band and that's enough work for me.
Having two seems pretty hectic, especially if the styles are different.

Listening to Spur - s/t, it's pretty good, thanks man
>>
>>50354120
Suite dude glad you like it. If you liked them you may like Fuji//Yama too. they're a little heavier, but lean on the shoegaze-y noisy side
>>
Country pop.
That's it and I hate it.
>>
>>50354132
Yeah, I listened to their 富土山 EP, and I think the singing and the guitarist's tone didn't appeal to me as much as it could have.

Although, it probably sounds 100 times better live.
>>
>>50353495
Actually, I live in Philly. I've actually known/lnow some of the more high profile acts here.

Philly's a weird mix, but it's strongest scene is definitely the acid rock/psych folk scene a la Kurt Vile. There's pretty much a scene for everything, but nothing on a professional level outside of the psych folk scene like I said. I can't speak for the rap or hip hop scenes though. Wouldn't know.

I'd say Philly's shaping up to be another Brooklyn with the way things are going. There are a lot of good acts springing up in town and I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years a ton of bands are going to be coming out of here.
>>
Melbourne's punk scene is actually pretty good. The rest is fucking garbage though.
>>
>>50352121
are you from TJ?! we should meet sometime

>>50352066
>>50353277
>>50353694

at least nothings way better than the dull scene of TJ, filthy reggae/ska scenes are pretty big here, also theres a solid punk scene as a growing indie arctic monkeys bands.

The minority is where things get interesting, as theres a couple of deep house, drone, ruidoson vibes going on. Definitely a city to watch musically in the following years.
>>
This is virtually no music scene in Ireland. There are a couple of really good emo/math bands around though.
I'm just not really into live music, I guess.
>>
>>50352121
>good
>you either play hardcore or black metal or you rip off the strokes or some pseudo-shoegaze post rock bullshit

fuck this place hombre
