'but dat's lo-fi x DD' no, lo-fi implies you actually made an aesthetic choice and don't just suck at recording.
stop making excuses for this average (and that's being generous) talent. it's okay if you like him but from any objective standpoint of measuring music, teens of denial and and everything that came before it are 'just okay'.

I don't think he's bad, and NPR listed his latest record as one of the best albums of the year thus far.
I listened to his first record and was kind of bored, so I haven't really wanted to check his other stuff out. That and his association with Party Dog--I like her style but looking at reminds me of when I used to read her comics (it was a pretty bad time in my life).

NPR's endorsement doesnt mean anything, his new record has gotten a lot of praise from lots of places.
His new album is just straight up boring, the songwriting is good with some shining moments but all the songs are just boring and repetitive. How To Leave Town and Twin Fantasy are fantastic tho

Transitions into chord progression that suggests exhaltation without a proper crescendo, so just seems like unearned affectations of joy (like the show this artist can't seem to get enough of). Song ends and then starts up again because, "hey, betcha weren't expecting that." Goes back to first transition with same boring melody. Choice of patches seems like unedited presets. tight.

Basically, fart-synths and a stock strings and piano samples. A vamped chord-progression over 3 minutes because that's not fucking boring. Awful lyrics. Also that vocal effect--is this fucking transformers?
I fucking hate Renard but these two tracks manage to be worse than anything I heard by him.
