The problem with this assertion is that your opinion could be said to be influenced by others either way. If your 5s are ultra-obscure then you could also be said to have "Stockholmed yourself into liking them." If you have to much /mu/-core, RYM-core, or Scaruffi-core people will shit on you for the opposite reason.
Even lists that have carefully selected combinations of non-/mu/-core and /mu/-core are suspicious because they could very well have been engineered to gain social approval for their taste.
