The avant-garde share thread here >>49561436 went really well so let's try having a general.

avant-garde is such a loose term. i do agree, most of the stuff I posted is more experimental.

everything avant-teen is also avant-garde apparently
>>
>>49652235
Well it's outsider music that's for sure.

Honestly I'm not sure if we should really call this avant-garde general, because I think it'd be a better place for discussing experimental, avant-garde, and outsider music all together and if we just label it as avant-garde general people are going to sperg out over what something is or isn't.
>>
>>49652264
emotions are memes
>>
>>49652299
avante-garde is a plenty accurate term.

it's anything that's pushing the boundary creatively. Most Avant-garde can also be considered Art-music, as can about 100 other litle micro-genres.
>>
>>49652299
>Well it's outsider music that's for sure.
it's not lol

go back to RYM with your retardation please.

listened to this before. EAI is 2deep4me. i'm a pleb so the only avant garde-ish genres i am comfortable with are drone and minimalism

mega link not working for me :(
do you have a mirror?
>>
>>49651894
Intent is the most important aspect of music.

Did you say something, and did you mean what you said. That's the essence of all art-music.

IE;
I intended to say something ugly, because I feel like I'm surrounded by ugly people.
>or
I intended to say something melencholy, because I can't find a reason to be unapathetic.

or so on and so forth.

often the point of avant-garde music is to force the listener into confronting unfamiliar emotions, phrases, or idioms.
>>
>>49652547
>a mirror
? dunno what that is, do other mega links work for you cause I can't immediately see a problem form my end.
>>
>>49652439
maybe try loren mazzacane connors or nels cline for some other avant-guitar work? or marc ribot (a little jazzier)?

also you like lubomyr melnyk then?

Mark Fell/Evol - Head Office Transformation
>mark fell's side - "I was watching my daughter play on Guitar Hero with headphones, all I could hear was the clicking of the buttons as she played. She, on the other hand, was have a very different experience. I made a recording of the sound of the button pushing which lasted about 30 minutes. Following this I implemented a simple system to analyze the sound file and give me a list of all the timings of the button pushes. This was then used to trigger a simple kick drum sound and lush chord generated using 4 operator FM synthesis. For me the music made outside the headphones, the skeleton of the guitar hero performance was far more interesting that the illusion of skill and performance it offered to the player. A more interesting head space transformation."
>evol's side - the classic rave hoover sound gone insane

TBH i'm very new to minimalism. riley, reich, glass, young, the list goes on and on...

oh, right. no I just uploaded that and I don't have another ddl account. if you have soulseek I'm on there so I know its up

is it weird that i love sachico's contributions as a collaborator, but when on the forefront I get less interested? the textures add so much, but on their own (a la good morning goodnight, where sachiko seems to be the head) it just doesnt hold me

love this shit though so far
>>
>>49652437
that's the literal definition of avant-garde, from the french "forward guard", meaning anything on the horizon of the creative norm.

Usually, avant-garde is a term used strictly for material which doesn't fall into current or previous trends and styles. It doesn't stay avant-garde for ever, eventually the style is absorbed by popular-culture as techniques related to the aesthetic become more common place.
>>
>>49652622
well look up him and arvo part then, also david borden. and you've hit up the greats, thats not so bad at all

It's not weird, I get what you mean. I like her solo as well as a collaborator, but more as a collaborator

try this if you wanna give her solo another go

great answer except unless it is explicitly stated, you can't reliably read intention from final product

death of the author and whatnot
>>
>>49652609
>going in
sounds AWESOME
>listening to it
an unfortunately all too real example of great concept but lackluster execution. sure it's curious to listen to, but it doesn't successfully tread the line between engaging music and thought experiment for very long

could've at least videotaped her pressing the buttons and mapped each to different pitches and shit
>>
>>49653596
it just sounds like most the shit he did with SND anyway
>>
>>49653428
that's precisely the point of art. Your presumption is that I'm referring to a 3rd parties interpretation of a piece of work. I'm referring to an artists ability to decided whether or not the piece question met with the aesthetic they wanted.
>>
>>49652776
thanks
>>
>>49654112
this is such a copout answer I don't even know what to say

like "the most important part of making music is to make music"

really?

Loved and Recommend :
Alvin Lucier - I am Sitting in a Room
Grumpin Together - Turbocactus
Mazen Kerbaj - Brt Vrt Zrt Krt
Nikos Veliotis, Taku Sugimoto, Kazushige Kinoshita & Taku Unami - Quartet

Moondog was meh, and Mahmoud Awad was disappointing as fuck. Everyone said it was music from the future, but it was just arabic music with shitty OLD electronic filters. Reminded me of Macintosh Plus
>>
>>49659274
Agree with you on Mahmoud Awad. Didn't seem anything special to me.
>>
>>49659274
>Moondog was meh
What did you hear of his? He is great
>>
>>49659326
Self titled. It could be that I was just listening to a lot more experimental stuff, and his sounded tamer in comparison. I like folk so I def will check it out again
>>49659325
All those comments must've been made by people who have never heard anything remotely like it

or people being ironic
>>
>>49659409
I don't think so. I mean look up a Merzbow video on youtube and people will comment shit like "this is what hell sounds like" and "I'm so scared"
sometimes plebs run into weird music and freak out
>>
>>49659431
well /mu/'s attitude to music is obviously wildly different from the average youtube commenter
people here don't really think it's super experimental stuff
