>afrojazz, ethio-jazz, easy listening, funk
>Mulatu Astatke is highly considered the most important jazz musician coming from Ethiopia, defining in a certain way, what was going to be known as Ethio-Jazz. He created a very singular style of jazz improvisation and rhythmic innovations conducting it to a more danceable groovy endeavor at the same time with an obscure and strange touch.

Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako - Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako (recorded 1975-77, released 2014, 320 kbps)
>Latin, Folk, Afro-Cuban, Rumba
>In 1969 an ambitious army lieutenant, a key member of the new junta which had seized power only the previous year, decided that a band was needed to entertain customers at the Motel De Bamako, then a popular venue set in the shade of mango trees on the banks of the river Niger. With his patronage, a group coalesced and in 1972 it attracted guitarist Kanté Manfila, followed a year later by perhaps its most famous member, Salif Këita. The band took its job seriously. They played all styles and in the words of Salif "were real intellectuals. I signed an apprenticeship contract in order to learn the music when I joined the band. We could play all kinds of music. We were a real family. We rehearsed and learnt the songs from 10am to 2pm, and then performed them that evening."
>The organ player, Idrissa Soumaoro, elaborates "The patrons brought us their records so that we could learn them: Orquesta Aragon, Fela, James Brown, Celia Cruz ... it was quite something, and when everyone was ready, we covered the songs. There was a real feeling of understanding among ourselves."

Various Artists - Ethiopian Modern Instrumentals Hits (released 1972, re-released 2011; 320)
>ethio jazz, jazz, funk
>Ethiopians’ deep-seated ethiocentrism, the legacy of a thousand years of history, has contributed in no small way to their music’s strong national identity, particularly impervious to any African influences. Latin influences, so pervasive in the great musical centers of West Africa and the Congo, have been similarly rebuffed, despite the brilliant attempts of a musician like Mulatu Astatke. He was the first and for a long time the only Ethiopian to have studied music abroad (England and USA). In the late ’60s, he brought back ‘ethio-jazz’, as well as a passion for Latin rhythms that was not readily shared by the Ethiopian audience. As early as 1966, he released a single and two LPs in the US entitled Afro-Latin Soul (and a third LP, Mulatu of Ethiopia in 1972), with his Ethiopian Quintet composed of American and Latin-American musicians (Worthy Records). That was three years before Fela’s first American tour and six years prior to Manu Dibango’s key breakthrough with the release of Soul Makossa in the Western ‘pre-World music’ market. All this goes to show how much the history of the African continent’s musical modernity should be reconsidered in light of the Ethiopian adventure, even though this lone spark bore little relation, musically or ideologically to the musical revolutions initiated most notably by Ghanian highlife, South African jazz, Congolese rumba or, much later on, by Fela.

Paul Ngozi - The Ghetto (1976, re-issued 2011, 320)
>zam-rock, psych rock, #woke-core
>Paul Ngozi (Nogozi means danger) with his band gave a popular voice to what later was called ‘Zamrock,’ a cool fusion of older African rhythms and ’70s rockish underground modes — never too polished, but with a tightness that might have made Anglo groups up in London sit up and take notice. The guitars are razor-sharp here which sounds great next to the harder rhythms at the bottom, and the album’s mix of English and Zambian lyrics. Paul Ngozi recorded at least ten albums, another one which is famous among collectors is Chrissy Zebby Tembo & Ngozi Family. You will love this one if you liked the Witch and Amanaz. Great album, great artwork, a masterpiece from Zambia.

N.T.U. Small Tigers - Musukungibulala Wethu (1984, 320)
>mbube, a capella, Graceland-core
>“Anybody with a taste for mbube’s droll complexities, especially those who find Ladysmith too sweet (the pleasures some people deny themselves for tough-mindedness’s sake), will get a kick out of this alternative. Without a great voice up top, the Small Tigers emphasize quirk and interplay, cutting whistles and clicks and animal noises and nasalities through the harmonies. Sing in English, too–but sound more at home in Zulu.”

Mob - Entire Discography
>1999-2006
>post-rock, noise rock, shoegaze

This is everything that the band Mob put out, in all its glory. One of the more underrated bands I've heard, their sound has been described as a fusion between Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, but to me Mob is so much more than that.

Mob is everything that I could ever want out of an album. It's noisy, but sweet on the ears; the shoegaze bits are thick, but dynamic in their sounds and the atmosphere it creates is melancholic, but hopeful. All of this is mixed together with a singer that isn't exactly the best out there, but still puts his all into everything he says and as a result it comes off as honest and genuine.

I highly recommend this band and ask that you please check 'em out.

Also, I ordered "I Believe In You" (what I consider to be their best) on CD, so as soon as it arrives in the mail, I'll upload a higher quality version of it.

Gerardo Sansón & Fred McDonald : Piano y Ritmos - Danza Negra (196?, 320)
>Cumbia, Sonsonete, Latin
>A pleasantly danceable instrumental 7″ out of 60’s Medellín. Not sure what the story is with Fred McDonald, on piano. He’s got chops, though. The bachelor pad, 60’s cocktail elements herein do thump along quite nicely with Gerardo Sansón & co on rhythm. All songs written by Colombia’s legendary Lucho Bermudez. Good stuff.

Basically, got this crazy nostalgic feeling as I started thinking about my ex-girlfriend from high school and how obsessed we were with Anthony Green at the time (2006-2008 cute emo girls, man... Goddamn...)...

Funny enough, this is happening as my current girlfriend is storming around our apartment packing her shit and breaking up with me.

I'm really hurting for Kaytranada's new album. If someone could share it that would be really cool.

In return, here's a bunch of stuff I got when I searched Steve Reich in the archive, including a massive box set some incredible anon shared the other day.

Steve Reich - Works 1965-1995 (1997) [320]
>10 CD collection of many works composed throughout the renowned minimalist composer's career

>Late Night Tales Presents Sasha: Scene Delete

Imagine listening to music inspired by Frahm, Richter and Steve Reich, but made by one of the UK’s leading house and techno DJs. Away from the hubbub of the club, the craziness of Ibiza, there’s a contemplative side to everybody. Forget the beats and the sweat and the billowing anthems; this quiet, undulating, at times pastoral piece is less about songs and anthems and more about texture and atmosphere. ‘Scene Delete’ is a side of Sasha you’ve never heard before.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Worn Copy
>psychedelic pop, hypnagogic pop, lo-fi magic
>Originally released in 2003, 320 kbps

I could gush over Ariel Pink all day. He's my 3rd favorite musician ever. Most of the drum sounds on his early albums are made with his mouth. Also I have no idea how he gets the sound quality he does. It doesn't have the sort of "boxey" sound that other lo-fi recordings have. It really does sound like an old AM radio station. This is one of my favorites of his early discography.

This is the complete version of FF>>. One of my favorites by the man. A lot of quality tunes on here.

This, along with some of his other early material, is definitely stuff that needs to sink in over a couple of listens. At least it was for me. His songs are quite complex to be honest.

Sure do

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - The Doldrums
>neo-psychedelia, hypnagogic pop, haunted AM radio music
>Originally released in 2000, 320 kbps

This album definitely most represents the "haunted" part of the moniker. The music really has a ghostly feel to it, which is further amplified by how lo-fi and fuzzy this album is.

>The 2013 remastered edition of this total classic from Carl Craig, first released in 1990 on Planet E. Cyber b-boy 808 programming, combined with the dopest synth-work and sampling genius. This album is fucking amazing and essential 90s hardcore including basically all subgenre's of that. I've searched the archive and have never really seen it talked about on here.

This is only 128K though, and all I can find. If anyone has 320 or higher I would appreciate an upload.

The Scientists - A Place Called Bad (recorded 1980-1986, re-released 2016; 320 kbps)
>punk, power-pop, garage, post-punk
>With a sound that was swampy, primal and modern-urban all at once—as much in the tradition of rock n’ roll and punk rock as it was a rejection of those things, the Scientists’ formula was as universal as it was specific to their own experience. The themes of getting wasted, driving around in hotted-up cars, being trapped in crap jobs, and paranoia were their subject matter. Machine throb bass and drums with jagged car-wreck guitars were their modus operandi. Fitting into no place or time they spurned all but the most rudimentary and elemental of rock structures to create a sound all their own.
>includes complete studio recordings, live recordings, and a previously unissued set from Adelaide

Various Artists - Ultra-High Frequencies: The Chicago Party (recorded 1982, re-released 2015; 320)
>disco, soul, funk, post-disco
>This album is an incredible historic treasure put together with a lot of hard work and dedication by the people working at Numero Group. They are a tiny record label working out of a small apartment on Chicago's south-side, yet their releases are consistently surprising, detailed and well curated. The packaging is top notch and most records come with vivid photos and writing that capture the history that has been unearthed. This particular release comes with a 100min DVD of the public access show that this album's tracks come from.

Universal Togetherness Band - Universal Togetherness Band (recorded 1979-82, released 2015; FLAC/320)
>disco, new wave, dance, rock, funk
>Between 1979 and 1982, The Universal Togetherness Band tracked unearthly portions of their sprawling songbook for bewildered students in Columbia College’s audio engineering program. Storming the gates of Chicago’s premier recording studios, the erudite party band explored permutations of soul, jazz-fusion, new wave, and disco with little regard for studio rates or the availability of magnetic tape.
>Universal Togetherness Band captures the brightest, never-before-heard moments from this visionary group’s 5-semester recording bender. Universal Togetherness Band (CD/LP): The attractive gatefold LP edition boasts magnificent reproductions of never-before-seen images from the archives of Chicago photographer Steven E. Gross. The CD version features several candid snapshots from the group’s personal collections. Meticulously mixed from the original multi-track sessions by Sean Marquand (Phenomenal Handclap Band), Universal Togetherness Band is presented in peak fidelity.

The album is 2001年の恋人達 (2001 Lovers) by the japanese band Shi-Shonen.

Kuruki – TV Scape
>Electro, Synth-pop, dark wave, post-punk, the album is kind of all over the place as far as music styles but it's an interesting listen.

oh jeez, I wanted to listen to this one but kind of forgot, thanks, was going to rag on you for such a low bitrate but then I looked on soulseek and I can only find it in 128kbps there too.

Also, I think that this could be compared to early Residents as well.

oh no, people like something you don't like, it is the end of the world
I don't like Tragically Hip or Gord Downie but acting like a prick anytime some one posts an artist you don't like is idiotic. People will like things you don't like, and the other way around, get over it or you aren't going to be able to cope in the real world.
