01: Starts the album by facing the album title head on. ‘we’re never getting 30 tracks’ is seemingly contradicted by ‘Don’t Give Up!’ This is an album about hopelessness and pushing through the pain, and this fast beat yet melancholy track opens it up perfectly with a bit of vapor and a bit of wave. Could use with some extra spice for all the buildup. 6/10

02: This track really kicks in, and it’s an enjoyable, simple synth melody. Feels like an attack on kek. It’s nice that this album is less heavy at the beginning to slide into the general idea. 7/10

03: aw fuck yes acoustic and a discernible voice. This is probably the most cohesive we’ll get for a while as the album slowly devolves into madness. Piano is a super nice touch, and I like the lyrics. Can’t decide between this one and the reprise. 8/10

04: fuck 1/10

05: Starts getting more chaotic at this point. The wub wub xD xD buildup is cliche but the opening and closing of this song is a lot of fun with dissonance and weird-sounding percussion. samples are cringe. 5.5/10

06: Kinda just feels like some random shit thrown together, though the heavy synth is enjoyable enough. If that’s a harpsichord bump the rating up by 1, but otherwise this is a kinda comfy but not particularly outstanding track that keeps it going kinda. 4/10

07: This one’s chaotic and nervous-feeling though, again, isn’t hugely outstanding like the previous track. There are some nice more drawn-out synth sounds that redeem it though, and it does a bit better job than the last one. 5.5/10

08: Another really satisfying voice and smooth guitar, especially when the two layer. The only real small mistakes are the sound of the mic and even then that’s small. Nice lyrics. I think this is one of the songs that doesn’t suffer much from being a minute long. 8.5/10

09: Makes me feel like a winner. It’s kinda vaporwavey but not too bad, and when the bongos kick in the track gets a nice, extremely satisfying sound. This one /would/ benefit by being a little longer, but oh well. 7/10

10: A bit bizarre. The drum and sample just kinda... interact. It’s a funky little track that builds up really nice-- probably one of my favorites in the first half of the album even though it’s not similar to any others. 8/10

13: This would be shit but it’s so droning and harsh that it works, especially with the title. I mean, it works to be really droning and harsh. Feels more like the inside of the left side of a beating heart instead of a siamese twin, but whatever. 3/10

14: This is apparently the half that isn’t being raped. There are some nice sounds in here-- it’s chiptuney but maintains the synths of the rest of the album that give it that sadness. 6/10

15: Being trapped in a hotel room. Elevator sounds. Underwater. The fuck is this track? It’s enjoyable, though... the beeps get a jazzy feel at the end. Leads really, really nicely into the second half of the album, which I think is superior. 5.5/10

16: It’s psychadelic, though not completely traditionally. There are a lot of small details with the guitar that I appreciate, especially at the beginning and end. The background static, barely-audible voices and layered reverb really come together. Then the ending... aaa 9/10

18: Radiohead /is/ a band. I’ve decided I like this a lot better than the original because the piano and guitar go so well together. More forlorn, better lyrics, and an even more drawn-out, weakened ending. 9/10

24: yeah mom. Seems like very basic lyrics until the end where the vocals kinda... break and get weak, as if she’s lying. Are you REALLY best friends? The guitar is nice and clean, and I like how the simple tracks on this side are clean, too. A little worse than Fiddlesticks. 8/10

Another track I want the lyrics to, honestly-- if you could get your face closer to the mic that’d be awesome, since the lyrics /sound/ good. I like the strength of the acoustic and the key changes into the ‘chorus’ are satisfying. 8.5/10

32: Perfect closer, seriously. It’s like I’m looking back at all the tracks previous, and thinking about all sorts of things in life. It’s the title track and sums up the emotions that come with the phrase ‘Don’t Give Up, Skeleton!’ perfectly. Can’t express how much I love this track and the title. Honestly, even at 32 tracks, the clarity of emotion behind this record is impressive. That sense of loneliness and delicate-but-dirty psyche--which actually fits well with the Skeleton and Radiohead motifs somehow?--along with the ephemeral nature of all the songs (but mine, I suppose) comes together to create a really unique and interesting listen. When you cut it down, it creates a really nice flow that emphasizes the themes that were already there. I'm a sucker for reprises so I put mine on the end before the actual closer, for maximum bookend-ness.

Yeah. A lot of the songs are call-and-response. I mean, obviously Slingshot/Reprise, but My Mother and Fiddlesticks tells a story in order, as well as Sad Skeleton/Don't Give Up, Skeleton! and Thom Yorke is a Horsey/[frolicking intensifies]. I think this setup flows the best so far, especially with no breaks inbetween. It's a nice 12 minute story for sure.

I've actually been listening to the abbreviated version a bunch today. it's a solid product.
