Was just thinking about this today. Not necessarily a ripoff, but they're very similar tbqh. I like Chocoate Matter better anyway.

Anyone who earnestly thinks The Epic is a great album and not overrated does not take Jazz seriously. It's incredibly derivative of past styles including Funk and especially Spiritual Jazz while the players are relatively amateur compared to other professional jazz musicians, often not playing off of each other well and Kamasi in particular playing stale solos with only a few ideas being used ad nauseum. Thinking this album is a great Jazz record is as bad as thinking Sunbather is a great Black Metal record.
>>60283043
wow. you really won me over with all the tight arguments and extensive examples
I can tell that you must really be somebody who takes jazz seriously. Do you have an email address where I can reach you in the future so I can make sure I'm not enjoying any music that is actually bad?
>>60283127
I'm a person who can see through bullshit.
What do you know about Jazz?
>>60283202
Let's both post an improvise solo over Autumn Leaves and see who's is better. You can go first.
Holy shit this is amazing. Better than the original version. It's absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing. The orchestral arrangements really help bring out the power of Bjork's voice. If regular Vulnicura is an 8/10 then this is like a 9/10. This shits on every other female artist's release this year, yes Divers included.
tfw no one cares about Bjork and only about that stupid Grimes album
>>60283662
I care about Bjork but Vulnicura wasn't THAT interesting to be honest (still a good album). I will definitely check out the full string version though.
Bjork is so awful you tryhard hipster loser.

did you listen to kaddish by towering inferno?
Let me start off by saying that I've been listening to this album on and off for years now. Every year around this time I start listening to it a lot. This year I think it's broke me. I cannot stop listening to it. Antics is okay and I know how they're often compared with Joy Division. While the lyrics do click, what I'm really looking for is something with this sound. Stuff like early Wire or PiL is all I've been able to find, but that's still not cutting it.
The Chameleons are definitely a direct influence on them, but I know I can't get myself into them. You might have better luck, though.
So yeah, try the Chameleons.

Thanks. I got their LP night when I was looking for some on the archive. P good, but not quite.
>>60282965
Yeah, that's one of my fave releases this year, but that's what I'm talking about.

What's that Zappa album like? I've been listening to a lot of him recently and haven't heard that one.
>>60282838
Soundtrack from the movie. I would suggest watching it first. Not considered one of his greats, but I still enjoy it.
What Zappa stuff you been listening to?

Ballad of Big Nothin
I don't understand how anyone with a moderately informed taste could consider Currents to be anything other than mediocre. There's nothing new on this album, no bold thinking; and worst of all, most of the melodies aren't even particularly good.

+Either/Or and Soft Bulletin
This has to be one of Sufjan's weakest albums. Sufjan's only been especially good when he's showcasing his skill at composition and orchestration as in Illinois, The BQE, and The Age of Adz. This just exposes the weaknesses in his voice and electronic music talents. The people who like Carrie and Lowell buy too much into the narrative of the album and their relationship to Sufjan as a singer.
>people like things I don't like and that makes me upset
>>60282595

Average Sufjan fag everyone.
