Listening to Starflyer 59's Americana right now, really liking the harder drums. They're louder and more powerful than they were on Silver and Gold, anyway.
>>61134403
I almost feel like SF59's shoegaze stuff isn't even really shoegaze though. They have the softly sung vocals under the heavy and distorted (not heavily distorted, don't get that shit twisted) guitars, but their songs generally don't have that reverberating sound that's so characteristic to shoegaze.
>>61134433
the softly sung vocals under the heavy and distorted guitars are enough to make that shoegaze for sure.
is listening to music a hobby?
I guess
Only because if it isn't I have literally no hobbies
Shitposting on the internet definitely isn't a hobby right?
>>61134316
yea I guess it is too. But i was thinking about how many times I'll listen to music and do nothing else. Got me thinking, "hey, this is a legitmate hobby!"
I think it's more of an interest than a hobby
to me "hobby" seems like it would be something constructive
I really like this album where do I go from here?

The follow up. No one ever listens to this, but it's really good.
Should i just mess around w/ patterns in a scale or use different arpeggios or what; i kind of struggle with transitioning from one musical idea to the next. Btw im playing it as a lead in a noise rock duo if that matters.
Pls help.

Also you might wanna try listening to Ebu Gogo for inspiration

Learn a few scales (like all the modal keys and how to play interchangeably between them) and some basic rhytms patterns (syncopated 16th notes, triplets, sextuplets and combinations of these etc.) And also just listen to how a good solo bassists (or guitarist) plays, copy them, and then develop a unique style from there. Though I am not really sure what solo bassists style would fit for inspiration to noiserock, maybe Billy Sheehan or Cliff Burton? And yeah listen to Lightning bolt aswell lol
How did /mu/ even FIND this album?

It was a meme on rym for a while.
Fishmans are one of the greatest pop bands on the 20th century.
Listen to all their other stuff, even their early shit.
Once you've familiarized yourself with their discography, listen to this live album. It is the best rendition of all their best songs, including Long Season.
Realize there will never be more.
Realize how rare their merch and physicals are, and that the Long Season vinyl will never be in your grasp. Only one anon has it, and...

>>61133891
that happens to every album that relies more on sound and texture than on actual songwriting tho

go the fuck to sleep aaron
bassists are inferior to everybody else in a typical rock band, and that's because everybody else actually brings something to the table. the guitarist might compose the songs, the singer might help tweak the songs and add a vocal melody, and the drummer brings the whole thing together. and what does the bassist do? he just plays what the guitarist wrote, and half the time nobody's going to hear him anyway.

I've heard very little good music that has bass that's drowned in the mix
