what is the interview process like /mu/?
>>61372312
hell
>>61372312
You get into the queue.
You wait for an hour or three.
You get a private query from the interviewer who starts with some "personal" details.
You get sparsely asked a few questions over the next half an hour.
If you're not a total fuckup, you'll get a confirmation email.
Leave IRC and join the site.

Why can't I seem to find any negative reviews of this? There have to be, at least from some credible jazz sources. I mean, it's obviously not very good. Washington's playing is just outright terrible, he's incapable of any interesting improvisation and his compositional skills are mediocre at best. The rest of the band varyingly does a job ranging from somewhat decent to quite good. I might even think it's an ok album if it weren't for Kamasi's inept emotionless wailing or jarring staccato repetition over an otherwise fine arrangement. Or alternatively...

You're just caught up in being a contrarian. No one who's honest with themselves could hear things thing and say "it's shit". Because it's not. It's a middle of the road, decent jazz record that's been overhyped to death, but it's not horrible.
>>61372207
I didn't say it was shit or horrible. I said it's not very good, four or five out of ten, something along those lines. I'm mostly just pissed at how much Washington's sax work bogs down the rest of the album. Trying to listen to this makes me just want to put a better jazz album on. Peralta's work on Brainfeeder was several orders of magnitude better, even if the recording and mixing is a bit stuffy.
Reviewers don't care about memes like you do.

Why is Hitler's discography rated so low? I thought it was really good and enjoyable.
>>61371932
it had to much filler and his vocals were really over the top screamy
Classic case of an artist's personality biasing people's ratings
>>61371932
I bet you don't even speak German you fakester.
>dude he's a pretentious asshole who cheated on his wife
And? He is also the greatest Indie rock artist of all time.
He is still alive, so people are not going to overlook his flaws.
>>61371845
>who cheated on his wife
would you blame him?
>>61371845
Just like Michael Jackson, David Lee Roth, and Charles Manson, etc etc, its possible to apreciate the artistic value of a musician and at the same time dislike them on a personal level.
Michael Jackson was a raging child diddler but he still had some pretty great music. Metallica might be pretentious sellouts now a days but atleast they gave us more than a few decent albums.

Austin Carlile is a talentless hack
>>61371844
Carlile left early and AA's disbanded, so are you bashing on Of Mice and Men?
>>61371868
Yes. He shouldn't even be in a band. OM&M went from metalcore to radio rock because he literally can't scream anymore due to health problems. I imagine the same is true for BMTH.
Scene metalcore fucking sucks anyways so it's for the best

What do you think about plagiarism and stealing in music?
It has been present in all forms of art since always, there have always been artists that stole ideas from others' paintings, books, songs; but I personally really dislike plagiarizing a song, that being without giving any sort of credit to the original artist. I mean, sampling is OK I guess, there are some really intelligent and creative examples of sampling, but stealing and then pretending nothing ever happened is so repulsive to me. It worsens my view on a certain artist if I discover their famous songs...

Sage with these dubs bb
I dunno, influence is ok, but if it got to the point that someone's life was constantly hacked that they couldn't even live anymore I would think the person lifting the ideas had gone too far by that point.
If you came to my office and this was explained to me, I'd go fucking loopy and drop you as I do have morals.

A thread for musicians to brainstorm music theory and to learn about new ideas would be cool. I play guitar but the guitar thread has always been exclusively a guitar "gear" thread.
I'm working on all the possible ways to voice a 2-5-1. Each of those 3 notes, let's use the key of C, so D G C, have 4 different 7th chords you can voice with. By that, I mean the D can by the 1, 3, 5 or 7 of the chord, and so on for each of the other 2. That makes for a lot of different possibilities.
Not only that, any chord with a tritone, m7b5's and 7's,...

This is pretty interesting, I can definitely see playing around a lot with just these 3 chords. I think the 3rd chord works well with them too, just because you can use the 7th and 3rd to make it stand out more (with this case you can make Em, Em7, Emaj, Emaj7, sus4 etc.)
I tend to experiment with adding some notes in that don't necessarily belong in that key. So for example take this chord progression in the key of A: Bm7, D, A-A7. When you're playing the Bm7 and D, you can add in some G notes,...
