I'm looking for a note-by-note music making program where I can make my own rhythms, arrangements and melodies (just for fun, nothing serious) that isn't super expensive. So something like Mario Paint, but better than Mario Paint. Do you have any ideas?
Thank you.

So I sat down and listened to his entire discography. I has listened to albums here and there before, of course, but never through the man's whole career.
This is what I came up with.

Low > Ziggy Stardust > Station to Station > Blackstar > Hunky Dory > Lodger > The Next Day > Scary Monsters > Alladin Sane > Heathen > Reality > Young Americans > Heroes > Space Oddity > Outside > The Man Who Sold the World > Tonight > Earthling > Diamond Dogs > Let's Dance > Hours > Black Tie White Noise > Never Let Me Down > Pin Ups > David Bowie
>Blackstar
>stick figure isn't dead from bloodloss
NIGGA
I agree with most of this, except Never Let Me Down and Pin Ups, they're pretty fucking shit.

nice.
I would fear for my brain being sonically amputated during that show
So, /mu/, I was thinking earlier. Blackstar came out last week, and while I'm sure that the album would've sold well even if Bowie didn't die, there's no denying that that album's sales got a huge boost due to his passing. Millions of fans flocked to the nearest record store to pick up a Bowie album or two, and the one most prominently on display was his newest release, Blackstar. The official numbers don't come out tomorrow, but it's estimated that the album sold 150,000 copies in the US first week. I'm willing to bet that a sizeable...

Hopefully not. One of the great parts about liking experimental music is that it's obscure.

b8.
Where did this "Blackstar is experimental" meme come from? It's a little unusual by Bowie's standards, but it's hardly experimental. Suburban dads could listen to it and not blink an eye.
Find a flaw.

>Music is tacky
Lyrics are pretty good tbqh

It's not Low
Honestly Lodger is also better.

>David Bowie
there
This other thread running atm gave me the idea to make a 'MM or NIN' thread (even though it's probably already been done pfft)
Who do you prefer? Music-wise, appearance-wise, et fuckin cetera :P
Trent's always been great. Manson sucks now
NIN just because they made Downward Spiral and MM has made nothing good aside from a single.
>>61752775
downward spiral <3
What does /mu/ think of Modest Mouse? Is it /mu/core? I personally like their stuff. Pic related
i used to listen to them a lot ten years ago. i dont ever even get the urge to anymore, ah well.
>>61752327
I have only heard The Lonesome Crowded West about a year or two ago and haven't picked up their other stuff yet. I enjoy their style and music though. What's their best album?

Will she ever top this?

go to bed kitty
Kitty is so fucking awful. She seemed ok for about a month in 2012 because she used some really smooth cloudrap beats and had some cool delivery, but her lyrics were fucking abysmal and here live shows were embarassing. The second she started working with Hot Sugar and trying to be a pop singer she ruined everything.
>>61752195
>implying /mu/ didn't chase her away
Nothing will top this in 2016
>>61752094
Radiohead, SWISH, Kendrick+J Cole.
Not saying they will top it, but they have the best chance. Blackstar is stupidly good.
>>61752094
I could see a lot of stuff topping it
it was good but not that special
>>61752094
it is quite good isn't it

Is there a merzbow flowchart?
Just got my electric violin yesterday. I have never played a string instrument without frets before, it's been super fun so far though. Running it through delays and distortion and modulation and making loops and stuff. Pretty fun so far.
>unironically listening to harsh noise
What do you think of this album?
It's topsy turvy.
>>61751857
what do you mean by this
My fav Nin album
I used to listen to something I can never have all the fucking time
Describe obtaining music for yourself when you were a kid.
>ripped singles off of youtube using Audacity.
>"how to get jrock for free"
altavista had an audio search feature that i would use to get AC/DC songs
When I was 11, I got MC Groovs Dance Craze, a shitty ripoff DDR because i was poor
i liked this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ojPJv9iv4) so I plugged some $10 computer speakers into the tv, put them in front of the built-in microphone on our computer, and recorded the song while i played. It was the worst quality and you could hear my loud stomping in the background, its embarrassing to think back on

was too dumb to torrent but was able to rip my parent's CDs onto the computer
