What are some good songs that make references to literature or poetry?
What, so you can appear intellectual?
The Smiths immediately spring to mind, followed by Joanna Newsom.
Every other Iron Maiden song.

What are some albums that could be considered an introduction to /mu/-core music. I like stuff like American Football but jumping right to stuff like pic related was maybe a bit much. I don't want to force myself to like anything but maybe looking for a happy medium between the two.
There have to be some people on this board who aren't blindly infatuated with shit like beefheart and spiderland.
It honestly doesn't get much easier than this album. Whats too overwhelming about this anon?
Is this a joke?
I feel many people make the mistake of purely listening to /mu/core when really getting into music and/or start browsing /mu/. Those bands and albums are critically acclaimed across the board (mostly) because of their musical influence and their unique or special sound, you won't see the appeal of something like Animal Collective or American Football if you don't know what other bands of their respective genres sound like.
Part of the reason I like american football's self titled so much is because I listened to math rock for about three years before even finding...

Literally garbage if you are comparing it to Whenever, If Ever and Are Here to Help You
What were these people's attitudes to drugs? It must have been impossible for them to not notice the harm they could do. Did players around this time have little regard for their well being?
>>63668506
A lot of very intelligent and talented people still do drugs anon. Drug addiction is difficult to beat even if you do have regard for your own well-being.
A lot of jazz artists felt that drugs helped them create and perfect their music.
>>63668691
well it's something you'd normally think of as contradictory with strong religious beliefs as espoused in their album cover notes.
>>63668787
Are you referring just to Coltrane? He beat drug addiction with the help of religion.
What does /mu/ think of Ween?

They're both what I listen to while running, which is my main form of exercise. Which one I use depends on how I'm feeling. I know long-winded prog metal isn't what most think of first when it comes to exercising, but I find it rather easy to get lost in a ten-minute track and suddenly...
