I'm listening to the following artists at the moment and would be interested in talking to anyone about them
John Cale
Scott Walker
Arthur Russell
Tony Conrad
Philip Glass
Arvo Part

In your next post, write a brief musical analysis of any recording by any of those artists with reference to melodic and harmonic principles and basic concepts of tonality and form. Make sure to include a link to the recording in question at the start of your post.
If you can string together a halfway coherent analysis, I will engage you. Otherwise I'm afraid I will not be able to chat. We'd both be wasting our time--my time because you have nothing to offer me, and your time because you would not...

Okay, anon. I'll try.
The Piece I select is "All-Boy All-Girl" by Arthur Russell.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGepEryOjjM
What I find interesting about it is Russell's use of the extremely sparse production along with the driving underlying percussion that completely decays away after about 2 minutes in just in time for Russel's singing to for a really quite breathtaking harmony with the swelling of his electric cello that is so completely soft and airy but it can't...

Scott Walker is pretty cool in all honesty.
I could care less for Arthur Miller, Word of Echo was bland shite if you have to ask me my personal opinion. He is a cool dude though.
also because I have to use buzzwords

Finally, electro-pop is being taken seriously as an art form.
Post albums that made people take the genre seriously.

Modern "indie" math rock is basically developed from American Football
Despite I agree this album is some quality stuff and one of Eno's key works, why does it get hailed as top 10 or even top 3 of '80s records? It's so new-wave/afrofunk it hurts to listen to it now. I get it, it contains a great deal of things which were innovative for pop music, but it sounds really old today. Like listening to new age/'90s dance music like some Deep Forest record.
Is it because it defined dance music for years to come? I honestly prefer My Life in the Bush of Ghosts to it.
I love both, but RiL remains my favorite album of the 80s
>>64645193
#1 favorite or just one of the favorites? I mean, there was a ton of other amazing albums in the '80s

Lol, imagine you’re getting ready to shock the world with your Claymation Wicker Man and then Lemonade happens. In theory, Radiohead “wiping their web presence” is an interesting response to the Event Album era, but if you’re not going to go balls out, delete your entire Twitter account, and go straight analog, I’m kind of like, “whatever, guys.” This sounds like a Radiohead song.
7.7 for Bottomless Pit.

In the sense that people on mu won't shut the fuck up about them? Yes. Yes they do.
Twenty one pilots is better tho
how do I into 21 pylons? where start?
UNDERRATED. Discuss.
It's a bit of a mess though, they go from the premature ejaculation that is Hot Fuss to a patchy but overall good take on early 80s Springsteen.
>>64644998
When will this "Hot Fuss is frontloaded" meme end? Sure, they made the first half all singles, but Side B has some great cuts like On Top and Believe Me Natalie on it.

What do you guys think of Type O Negative?
I KNOW YOURE FUCKING SOMEONE ELSE
Steele is probably the manliest man that has ever been a man
>>64644644
I thought they were memecore for a while, but after listening through their discography, I was wrong.
They were actually a really interesting and creative band with quite a few memorable songs. Steele had a grim, goofball sense of humor that still sounds pretty unique.

recs for noise to listen to while dealing with a day-long hangover? I've been going through a lot of the more droney subtext-core type stuff all day, much of which borders on noise. Mika Vainio is a godsend to music.
>>64644465
>What's the most recent /noise/-related purchase you've made?
I got a heap of home dubbed tapes from a small experimental label, as well as some distro copies of Moenai Hai on the way
>Order of preference of physical media? (vinyl/cassette/CD)
Tape>CD=Vinyl

19ish, though I had heard some before then

I just got into it.
started with more dark/industrial/ambient/whateverTheFuckItIsCalled like Jhesu Masturbator. Then started listening to shit like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePBB-NO8vKg
based on the pastebin I'm currently listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQahG8yrl0Q and I'm diggin it.
