Her second map adventure might not have been quite what she had been expecting, but Twilight Sparkle also lost sight a bit that two ponies were sent, too. It's partially just how revved up she's been, though - she missed out on the trek to Griffonstone and a revisit to Manehattan, and she IS the princess of friendship, after all. How often is she able to demonstrate any proficiency at that title? Still, it goes to show she's still got a ways to learn.
That's why she'll just have to keep coming up with more friendship problem theoretical scenarios to simulate, obviously!It's not a roleplaying game, it's research!

Even today the Fluttershy-Twilight interaction seemed pretty meh. It was mostly just them doing their own things the whole episode then Twilight realized at the end that Fluttershy's animal love was helpful.

That was a good episode. Historical allegory was one of the things that originally drew me to the show, and this episode was that in spades. A little bit of child-friendly darkness, a little bit of phenomenal power, some casual hints of inbreeding, and BAM. Other than Twilicorn, I may as well have been watching Season 1 again.
