Zecora knows quite a bit about concoctions and remedies that Twilight hasn't focused her studies upon. And with some of the more esoteric items she's collected, such as potions that can only be activated by alicorn magic, she remains quite an enigma. Where does she come by some of her rarities, both in possessions and knowledge? Has she often had the opportunity to test even half of her stock? There are some very edge cases indeed. She is well read, of course, so that solves a bit of that... excepting, then, where she came by the books in the first place. But she's a helpful zebra, all the same.And she really just enjoys having that cauldron around.

I had a theory about this and Discord once. I think basically Zecora is the "Harmony" equivalent of Discord.
I believe Discord's powers stem from or at the very least maintained by erratic thoughts and actions. The more chaotic the spell the more power he can draw upon, and on the flip side the more specific and intentional a spell is the weaker it is. This is why so many of Discord's schemes emphasize manipulation over raw power, since the very nature of his power demands spontaneity of thought and intent. It's a simple matter for him to scramble reality all to hell, but the second he wishes to advance a specific agenda he must rely on considerably less impressive spells.
Similarly I think Zecora's rhymes are a way of maintaining a "Harmony" of mind. This could also explain her affinity for the Everfree Forest, which is unique in Equestria due to its functioning independent of equine management, a sort of system of natural Harmony. In a way Zecora is artificially reproducing the power of the elements of Harmony by maintaining a constant state of Harmony in herself, most evident in her rhymes. Of course this power pales in comparison to Harmony achieved in actual Friendships, but it works if you're a sad weird zigger.
