Beam after beam struck the Titan's form, white hot light striking her with a fury as the singular form of the alabaster princess circled her like a bird of prey, laying down fire wherever she could on the massive form.

Oblivious or uncaring, the Titan marched on, her attention focused squarely on the target she hunted down like a hound of hell to it's prey. She was not hurrying, instead lumbering on with an almost easy measure. She took her time, for reasons that made sense only to herself, while she effortlessly destroyed any building unfortunate enough to be in her path. Most of them, already damaged from the barrage, fell quickly and with little help on her part, and the occasional stray shot of the prime princess was no help at all.

They, like all barriers, fell away as the Queen headed towards the prone, defenseless machine, undeterred.

No magic, no matter how strong, seemed to do the trick. She had done through sheer mass alone what power could not.

The princess's mind was aflame, pulling from her vast knowledge to think of anything that could stop her in time. A feat that proved difficult, when another such thought kept making itself known.

The burden of a princess was great.

This was the only time in recent memory she could recall that when everyone looked to her with rapt attention and wide eyes, it was the thing she wanted least in the world to happen.

Cadence's look was almost nostalgic. It had been a long time since she had looked with such fury, and that was not an unwelcome change.

Unlike the hold grabbing her slender black neck, that was very unwelcome.

For no other reason than to see their reactions, Chrysalis looked over to the other two changelings in the room. What she found was almost what she had expected. Eighteen, as predicted, was all but foaming at the mouth. Meanwhile, less expected, Forty Two had a blank slate of a look to her. There was something to her, Chrysalis could see that even without resorting to sensing her love, but what it was had been tightly guarded.

The grip on her cheek would permit no more wandering, only answers.

The well groomed pink fur around her eye started twitching, and Chrysalis decided her previous plot of acting aloof was going to have to change.

None present had ever seen her look so disgusted.

The Queen offered no other defense, falling silent after that alone.

The room turned almost boiling with Eighteen's words, aided in the heat by the flames on her horn.

She didn't say a word, no matter how hard they kept coming.

The accusations just kept coming, from every angle, and she never even tried to get a word in.

It was Cadence's turn to be stunned into silence under a powerful, authoritative command. She and the others shied away when they saw his hooves digging into the desk, and tearing the paperwork beneath it apart.

Very little in her life had hurt Chrysalis more, then when most of the room gave her a suspicious glance.

Only the ever loyal soldier acted immediately, bowing respectfully and turning on her heels. She didn't even offer a glance to her Queen before she stepped out. It was only with great reluctance, more so on Cadence's and Eighteen's part, that the other three began to slowly shuffled towards the door.

Her audience gone, it didn't take long to slip out of the regretful, sorrowful look she had been wrapped in this whole time.

His hooves slammed down, so hard they almost shook the entire room.

"How is this helping me!? I told you not to tell anyone what you saw! Not... make up some weird ass story about how you left behind some kind of magical imprint or some shit!"

She dropped it then, the plan she had been formulating in her mind to convince him as much the others falling away with it.

She carefully approached him, making an effort to keep his strained, furious eyes locked with hers until she reached the side of the desk.

Sadly, she slowly opened up the door, and was greeted by the four faces she expected. What she did not expect, was the state they were in.

Instead of the fury and righteous anger they should have had, they held nothing but looks of shock, and gaping mouths with wide eyes.

Whatever acting Chrysalis had managed to scrounge up fell away, as the realization hit her as hard as a brick.

There were few things in this world that Chitania truly loved. This, without question, was one of them.

To see all the world beneath her, below her massive form, was a treat she savored even after all these years. She hated it down there, even as she stood head and shoulders above most of the crowd. She always felt like she was holding back, restrained and caged by her much smaller form. She supposed, with this current revelation, she had proven that correct.

No longer, not after today. She had survived extinctions and wars, losing everything and the very end of the world, she would not be laid low today after a barfight gone wrong, not today. She would reach the one who attacked her, and bring them low with a single swipe of her hoof. They wished to bring their machines against her. She would show them the foolishness of such a thing, in fire, and in metal.

She was restrained no longer, and all the world would know of it. She would hold back no longer. If they did not wish to honor their deal, if they wished to turn the world against her as they had before, so be it. She was not some mewling worker who cried foul at such things. Neither did she find she could deny it, when they claimed her a monster that needed taken down. Every word they spoke was true, perhaps this was justice after all.

That didn't mean she had to accept it.

She was Chitania, she was the Titan, and she would be damned if she was brought down on this day.

Her cries went unheeded, as the giant metallic frame crashed into her headfirst. Hidden as best they could in the alleyway, they did just that. They watched, as four black towers moved closer, and closer to them. When he followed the line of sight up towards her titanic face, the stallion noticed something in the way.

Two seconds after she pressed against the so far invisible wires, dozens of them laced between the two buildings and wrapped around them, the crumbling started.

She grabbed him, her one remaining hook launching out and jerking them away just in time, as the wires did their trick, and the chunks of the buildings were ripped clean off, and shredded.

Chitania never slowed down, or seemed to even notice the wires or broken buildings.

On a rooftop watching the destruction, a hoof came to the changelings chin.

That is a good point, despite being the most controversial and liked/disliked of all the characters, Chrysalis never got pushed aside. The fact she was in a starring role in AJ's biggest arc at thread 120 is pretty indicative of that.

The princess couldn't help but wince, her eyes trailing over to the precarious edge of her city, and more tellingly the huge drop beneath it that made such an option as viable as any other suicidal attack, at best.

Pushing those thoughts aside to resume the battle was a hard one, as the tempting scenario of simply hitting her in the head with the biggest thing she could find was quite tempting.

Her heart had been racing every step the Titan took. She no longer had any regard for which direction was inhabited, and which one was barren. She marched to her own tune, and heard no other song. The possibility of their deaths had become tellingly real, and she was not sure if she could pull off the same trick she had so very long ago.

The last few attacks had done nothing more than made the Titan up her game, striking out far more powerfully at any attempt to stop her. She was no longer holding back, and any retaliation had costs...

It pained the princess to think as she did. A part of her was disgusted, even if another part of her, one far more political, saw the merits in the idea. She had ruled for over a thousand years, she had made harder choices than this, but thinking as she did now never became any easier.

The airship and that annoying mare had brought this on themselves, they were the ones who had fired into her city, and tried to kill the Titan.

They were the ones who had called for her, and she answered.

They had ruined her chances to bring this to a place where collateral damage would be so much more reduced. They had brought this on themselves, both the Titan's attention and their ire, and with the recent moves Pennydrop had been making, with what she had shown in the wake of Rarity's revealing of Cadence, it might be in her best interests to let her feel the full force of it.

She could not stop the Titan, but so long as she remained focused, she could aim her away from any bodies in her path, and let her have the airship. Maybe, afterwards, she could be still long enough to try again.

It wasn't easy, and it certainly wouldn't be justice, but it might work. If nothing else, it could save the lives of her little ponies.

What the hell are they going to arrest them for when this is all over? Two of them didn't even get into the bar brawl, Sunset and 13 never threw a single punch, and that's despite being outright attacked. It's a hard choice, but it's one she had to make to save the greater whole of anyone else in Chitty's path. She couldn't stop her without a force strong enough to break Canterlot off it's mountainside, and she was focused on ONLY them so far.

She tried other methods, and it's not like she's leaving them to die(they ARE in an airship...), but she just can't get Chitty's attention away from them without endangering others.

She's still trying and doing her best, and she doesn't want them dead, she's just out of options.

Somewhere down below, beneath the notice of both the alabaster princess and the ebony giant, the shutter of a camera making its silent 'CLICK' followed by a soft whirr is entirely missed by both them and anyone around.

A picture perfect moment, depicting the Solar Princess hovering close enough for the Titan Queen to hear, mouth open as she spoke.

A picture of the Titan turning her head ever so slightly to grin and look back at the princess.

And another wide shot, showing the hulking beast as it ambled off towards the clearly marked airship while the princess hovered in the air with an unreadable expression.

Despite the potential these images had, the photographer felt no elation. Just sadness.

And with a grim expression they hurried along, following in the wake of the huge hoof imprints upon Canterlot's streets to follow this story to its now inevitable ending.

A painful story. A moment that would have been otherwise missed in the confusion. And it would see the light of the day as soon as it was time to pick up the shattered pieces of this calamity.

A day ago, Pennydrop had sung the praises of her wonderful machine, of all the new and amazing things it could do, and all of the capabilities and technical wonder this feat of engineering majesty could bring.

A day ago, this had been the most beautiful creation on the planet.

Her opinion had changed, slightly.

"Pennydrop..."

With one final click of some connection beneath where the Queen could see, the mare slid out from underneath her console, dusted herself off, and looked out the wide, clear window that stretched across the cockpits room.

This time, she did not see the splendor of Canterlot outside her window. Not even light peered in, unable to make it past the eclipsing mass that blocked all things from coming in.

She had not reached them yet, every subtle shake that was not yet the whole heaving of the airship proved that. She was taking her dear sweet time, and she was clearly savoring it.

The mare closed in on the window, fearless in her trot while keeping her eyes firmly locked on the Changeling Queen.

The screech cut through her, cleaner than any lade ever could. Memories flowed out from the still open wound left what felt a lifetime ago, of a day when she had watched one of her cities, her people, burn.

Her fear diminished, returned with a righteous anger, and she left the mare to her frantic actions.

"...No, I do not. I do not want her to win again."

Something about that made the corner of Pennydrop's lips twitch, even if her anger kept down any smile.

The hum that followed was the most beautiful thing either of them had ever heard.

A look of unrestrained, insane glee crossed Pennydrop's face as the lights from the console all around her brightened, and the ship began to rumble.

Outside, Chitania remained cautious in her advance. To most others, it would appear she was toying with them, making them squirm in their seats as she slowly brought down the final judgement. The truth was far less than that.

She knew of the wonders of the future, of all the strange and uniquely magical things new technology could bring. How they could make simple golems of steel do things they never had before, how they could grant spells to those without horns, and how giant boxes of metal and fire could carry those ponies high above her reach that only pegasi or dragon or griffon had been able to manage, carrying with them weapons that had at their peak managed to hurt her, and pin her down. She recognized a so called 'airship' when she saw one, and knew exactly what it could do.

Which made it all the more confusing when, after barraging her armored hide with enough artillery to wipe out everything but her, it remained prone. More tellingly, there were none fleeing. She was not toying with them, nor torturing them. She simply was not stupid. There was a trick here, and she was ready for it.

When the thing suddenly released a torrent of steam and magic, panels of it's metal frame moving and shifting, she was all but expecting it.

She stepped back, every limb tense and ready for action, but something about the ship gave her pause, and compelled her to watch. There was something strange about the way it was shifting, something impressive.

Metal sang out in a clang as the landing gear of the airship was completely shot off, waves of power from two vents along the bottom all that was needed to keep the thing above ground now. Metal sheets upon sheets along its frame opened up before sliding back, elongating the entire body of the ship into a more long oval shape, pointed at the end, with four more of those strange vents appearing on the bottom and adding to the power to produce six long lines of white hot fire.

Then, it began to rise.

The wings, previously shorter and stumpier, shimmered with magic as they rose up, dozens of the long panels sliding up and adding to it as they stretched out and widened.

They scraped along the frame, locking into place with a magnetic reverberation, forming almost heartshaped curves on either side. The center suddenly ignited, a symbol of magic appearing within the wing and lighting up so brightly it hurt any below who would stare at it.

The final piece came when the cockpit, the head of the airship shifted, it's previously sharpened shape becoming curvier, and slightly more bulbous at the top. Twin rods shot out from the very top, each one bringing with it waves of electricity that danced in the sky, and with a metallic screech, the last panel snapped into place, the massive machine now hovering high above Canterlot for all to see, so massive it blotted out the sun.

It was finished, and with a burst of glittering mix of magic and fuel, it shrieked a challenge to the Titan down below.

>Now, Chitania... you have met your match. You meet your last opponent before I wipe you off the face of this earth, METAL DEER HAW-

"Moth?"

If the hiss of air that escaped her was any indication, a blood vessel was about to burst.

>...Gwen? I had a thing here. Whole speech, just... you see why I would, right? You see the fucking awesome thing? This was kind of my moment.

"Oh no, my apologies, this is quite... amazing, I'm just wondering why you called it Metal Deer Hawk?"

Her hooves almost crushed her cheek, sliding down smoothly and nearly ripping the skin right off.

>Because that's what it is, it's a metal deer hawk.

"It's a moth."

It took a solid five seconds of breathing before Pennydrop could talk again.

>What... exactly, makes you think that?

"The readout up there, the one that shows the machine and it's systems. It's shape is a moth, it's not a hawk or a deer, or a mix of the two."

It said something about Pennydrop that her first response was not to even turn around, but jam her hoof down on a button.

Outside, the world was witness to the sight of a single beat of the moth's wings, and the lightning it cast down with it. The destroyed building the Titan had tossed at it never stood a chance.

"It shoots lightning?"

>Oh, it does a lot more than that...

Mare, and griffon, smiled in the most perfect act of trans-species harmony Equestria had ever seen.

"Show me."

Proudly, the mare turned around, took her seat in the pilots chair, looked down to the Titan below, and smiled.

Down below, none would ever hear the response Chitania spoke, for even as massive as she was, as booming her voice had become, she kept the whisper below her breath.

As she looked up to the strange moth like machine above preparing to attack, she couldn't help but mutter.

The PG thing doesn't even matter, we push that envelope and break it plenty, it's that we saw what happened when other stories slipped into grimdark edginess, and we ran screaming in the other direction, and instead focused on interpersonal stuff and politics in addition to the grand action set pieces. We didn't kill off a single character in Cordyceps, but that was by far the most tense storyline we ever had. The threat in Apple Crazy didn't risk a single life, it was that AJ was going to lose herself, that kind of stuff.

We didn't need death to create tension when Fluttershy's powers went out of control, the fact FS might not be normal ever again was plenty. We didn't need Blueblood to wipe out scores of ponies to prove he was serious, the invasion alone was the challenge, and we didn't need Variolus to actually kill a single Crystal Pony, because the drama was between her and Sunset, and the story with Chitania.

And now, Chitania killing something would remove all tension, it would be a backpeddle hard to run away from the more interesting questions of how everyone is going to deal with the fallout from a simple mistake.

We'd go from "Oh god what's going to happen to Rarity/all the others when this gets out, or will it get out at all!?" to "Oh, that. She killed somebody which Rarity didn't do, so she's the badguy, Rarity is the good guy, done! Phew! Thank god we had the wonderful guidance of every single other story where the badguy does random evil stuff to let the audience know they're bad to lead us!"

The tension here has absolutely nothing to do with if Chitty's going to step on someone, it's how far this simple mistake will go.

Honestly, what bothered me was how caught up on it everyone was, I stayed silent but man I was like, what a bunch of 'niceguys' and I mean that in the WORST possible way.

Death happens, either through sickness, old age, or tragedy of some sort. Like Kaiju rampage for example, but you guys are a bit too squeamish for it apparently. We should be able to handle a little death as long as its not any 'A-C Tier Characters'.

Any D and F Tier Characters should be fair game to be 'murdered' for some story time with bad vibes but will make dealing with it a growing experience. As long as it's so sporadic that it only happens when needed and/or appropriate, like a city devastating event... like Chitty! She was at most a High D-Low C level Character for the sake of a neat story when she showed up, but we decided not to kill her. I was for it, just saying.

During that time she's been upgraded to a Tier A-B during that time. Killing her off now would create waves that can't be matched by any no name.

Now someone like say, the Tier F "Cantie 3" who doesn't even have a name, blast him/her to pieces! The only ones who will care are the other A and B Characters that actually give a shit about them, like Celestia.

Me though, couldn't care one bit and anyone who does just doesn't want to stain their precious Characters with death. Well I can tell ya, this world isn't as nice and white as you might think, need I bring up Sombra and 'The Brigade' again?

Okay, so now instead of her getting off scot-free, you are actively making it so that she is going to be punished / and or persecuted because of this action, which removes the entire attention of the story which is that this is all the story of a misunderstanding and a complete mess up on the main characters part, it isn't Justified. That's the point of the whole story, none of this is Justified, none of it was supposed to happen, and the fact they keep escalating is a bad thing. Furthermore, a key point of this story is that it's not her fault, even accidentally, and that the damage keeps upping is wrong.

So essentially you would remove all the ambiguity, all the tragedy of misunderstanding, all the fault on our main characters part, and remove that potential development so that we can kill off a couple guys. Umm, not to rock a settling boat, bu just to point it out, any deaths done by Chitty wouldn't take those story elements away, they would be changed to a darker tone but still remain. Not only would this make her a 'bad guy', those deaths wouldn't be on Chitty's head, but on Rarity's. That guilt would force her to confess or cement her position as worst princess, especially if dash doesn't mention anything about how things went down. Shed get the blame for this and there would be no way to fix the Chitty situation ever. But like I said, it doesn't take them away, it just takes the story into the grimdark. Losing her Princesshood over a colossal fuck up, one that has potentially high death toll, damn even Twilight didn't fuck up that bad when it came to Chitty. But you're right about the development part, she'd be in a very bad place, and the only thing I can see her doing to make up for it is by embodying her element and doing EVERYTHING to fix this. From the clean up, to the reconstruction, basically it would be a self imposed Blueblood Punishment times ten. And that IF they didn't give her a punishment, besides taking her wings to begin with. Damn that would be a very dark turn of events.
