I don't think the ratings are saying too much. DCF is not really doing that much of a great job, they do not contain iTunes and they also do not contain streams.
Also like Jim said, the show isn't producing profit by itself but it is there to advertise the toy lines and thus judged by their success.
I think the show is going down in viewership overall (how couldn't it? With the hype around it it must have peaked rather early) but the fandom's obsession when it comes to numbers can be rather tiring. Looking at stuff like this can be entertaininglike the MLPG speed chart that one guy makes every now and then or the episode ratings, but the fandom takes pretty much every isolated number and tries to draw conclusions from it that the number itself simply does not provide.
