Emerald decides that enough is enough. He has to get out of here.

Emerald starts to walk towards his chimney, and looks up it again. Like before he can't see the outside from here, but he is sure he could shimmy his way up it.

Emerald goes to his toy chest and grabs his mother's pendant. If he is climbing the fireplace there is no way he is going to carry very much, but there is no way he is leaving the only memory of his mother behind.

Emerald starts to climb the inside of the chimney. The higher he goes the easier it is to climb. The bottom was made of relatively smooth stone that Emerald essentially had to wedge his back against and then slightly move his hooves up. Where he is now though is almost certainly brick. It's a little hard to tell with the lack of light and the pitch black soot covering everything.

Speaking of soot, he can feel it getting all over him. He has to shut his watering eyes, and do his best not to breath, because every time he does he either hacks or sneezes loudly.

The inside of the fireplace begins to squeeze smaller as he goes, and Emerald hopes that he'll find the top before it gets too small for him to climb. Just as he thinks that his front hoof hits something that isn't brick, but metal.

Emerald feels around the metal. It appears to be conical shape, whatever it is, and on closer inspection he can feel air coming from it.

Emerald rather frantically pushes and kicks the metal plate, and as he does he can slowly but surely feel it start to loosen, and with one final kick manages to make the thing topple off.

His eyes are met by blinding sunlight, and as he readjusts he hauls himself up and looks around. He appears to be on the roof of the castle. Emerald knows that his room is somewhere in the northeast side of the castle, but not entirely sure where. Even less sure is how he is going to get down from here, as it's far too high to climb or jump down.

Emerald leaps for the cone, not wanting to let it fall and alert anyone that he got away. Luckily he catches it just before it comes rolls off the tiles and onto the ground far below., but for a heart stopping moment Emerald slides, one of his back legs almost going over the edge.

He shakily gets up and carefully climbs the tiles back up to the chimney and places the cap back on. Sitting down near the chimney to calm his nerves, he reflects on his little victory and smiles. He then climbs to the crest of the roof and begins crawling south, hugging the tiles close so he doesn't fall.

Emerald nervously looks up. He knows that his step father employs pegasi, and he doesn't want them to see him.

Eventually the roof starts to flatten out as it reaches the intersection for the east tower. It's rather bare except for four statues of what are either gargoyles or dragons. Emerald isn't sure.

Emerald looks to the tower. There appear to be windows that he may be able to reach. Though it may be an easy way off the roof, Emerald has never been to the east tower. Who knows what could be there?

If Emerald continues south he'll eventually reach the south east tower, which has a lookout that he may be able to climb down from. The only problem is that he is sure there will be guards there somewhere.

Emerald starts to creep towards the east tower, keeping an eye out for any flying ponies in the skies. Emerald reaches it without incident, but the window is a lot higher up than he imagined.

This part of the castle is also made with brick like that in the chimney, and though it's a slightly more difficult climb because of the buffeting winds, it's a lot safer because the fall isn't nearly as bad, assuming of course he doesn't roll off the roof.

Emerald gets to the window and peers in slowly to make sure there isn't anyone.

The room smells funny. It's not a smell Emerald can identify either. Sort of a combination of pickled vegetables and the preserved creatures that his tutor brings him sometimes to disect. There appear to be many books inside, as well as a few covered pots, a desk, a tub of some kind, and a bunch of what look like oars.

Emerald also checks out the walls of the room. They are smooth. Emerald isn't sure he could climb back up to the window if he went inside, though he may be able to returns with some liberal stacking of the room's furniture.

Emerald tries to see if he can spot a way that the tower can get him outside without going through the main part of the building. From his perch he doesn't see one, but that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't one.

Emerald looks down into the room. The fall into the room isn't that bad. He could certainly do it unharmed. Especially if he hops onto the bookcase, and then maybe onto the lectern and then the floor.

Lastly he listens to see if he can hear anything. There is a lot of wind in his ears, but it doesn't sound like there isn't anyone nearby to him.

Emerald wishes he had brought something as a weapon. he looks over his shoulder at the roof, but there isn't anything he could use there, not even a loose tile or a broken brick.

He climbs over and falls into the room, not quite as expertly has he had wanted, but making it unharmed.

(Last for the night.)

Emerald goes over to the door and listens against it. He doesn't hear anything, so he cracks the door ever so slightly and peers out.

He can see a small stone hallway with a staircase going up on one side and on the other going down. There doesn't seem to be anyone outside, at least that he can see.

Emerald quietly closes the door and then checks the books. Some of them appear to be about alchemy, but others seem to be journals, though they contain nothing but jibberish. Perhaps it's encoded?

Emerald then checks the cupboard under the books. It's filled with all sorts of glass jars filled with a lot of things that Emerald can't even guess. Emerald thinks he spots an eyeball and gets a little queasy, so he shuts the door.

Emerald then checks the pots. All three seem to contain the same thing. An odd, thick black colored liquid. It smells foul so Emerald quickly closes them back up.

On the desk are some drawings of ponies. They are all labeled, and appear to be describing the anatomy of a pony. Particular attention seems to have been paid to the internal organs.

Next Emerald checks out the crystal ball. He looks into it, and though for a second he sees swirling mist, it coalesces slightly, and though Emerald can't tell what's going on it looks like some ponies talking. The image seems to flicker and fade, and Emerald can't get it to solidify.

Emerald picks up the Crystal ball, it'll be nice to use as a weapon if he needs too.

Lastly Emerald sees if he can push anything to the window so he can get to it quickly, but nothing seems to be quite long enough. If he wants to escape to the window, it'll take a little time to climb back up too.

(I get to go into work a little later today, so have one update before I go.)

Emerald leaves the room and goes into the hallway.

He makes his way down the stairs quietly. He listens closely for the speech of a pony, or the clops of their hooves and the clanging of their armor. If he hears anything he'll need to dash back up because the staircase just spirals down with no alcoves to duck into.

Eventually he reaches another door while walking. Trying to divine what is on the other side, he puts his ear up to it and once again hears nothing. He sticks his nose close to the edge of the door, and there is definitely a metallic tang in the air.

Emerald isn't sure this goes outside. The colt feels like he hasn't walked down enough stairs yet to reach ground level. However the spiral staircase could be tricking his senses, and it's possible that this room simply leads to another staircase that will take him further.

Emerald looks through the keyhole, and tries really hard to see if anything is there.

>Perception Check
>Rolled 2, Passed

Emerald sees what looks like a table and lot's of cages. He thinks the place is empty until he sees something in one of the cages flitter around. It looks like a bird, but Emerald can't tell from here.

Emerald very carefully opens the door and steps inside. What he thought was a table looks more to be an operating table. There are large scuffs and dried blood on it. Most of the cages in the room are empty save for the one that holds what is indeed a bird. A canary to be more precise.

As soon as Emerald enters the canary starts to tweet at him and rattle the cage.

Emerald walks over to the canary's cage and unlocks the door.

Almost instantly the canary zooms out of the cage and flies out the window. Emerald smiles a bit. He wishes it was that easy for him to escape... If only he were a pegasi.

Emerald attempts to climb onto the boxes, but they weren't made to support that kind of weight on the outside, and Emerald ceases trying after he almost puts a hole through one of them while standing on it.

Emerald looks around the room to make sure he doesn't miss anything.

It's mostly full of empty cages. The table is clear of items, though dirty. The vials next to the table seemed to be pretty well plugged in, and are empty anyway.

The drawers however contain all sorts of surgical tools. Particularly, Emerald spots a bone saw and takes it. Hopefully he won't have to use it on anyone...

Emerald then steps out of the room and continues down the stairs.

Eventually he comes to another door, though the stairs continue down. There is no keyhole on this door, and putting his ear up to the door he doesn't hear or smell anything. He can however, see what appears to be sunlight filtering in through the bottom of the door.

Emerald peaks through the door.

It seems to lead to a bridge between the main castle building and the east tower. The bridge is open to the elements, and Emerald can see that he could climb over the side of the bridge if he'd like to, though he isn't sure if that would help him get down. Emerald also knows that behind the door on the other side of the bridge there is usually a guard standing on watch.

Emerald tries to think how much time has passed since he left his room. If he had to guess, it's probably been about 15-20 minutes. Emerald isn't sure how much time it would have taken for his stepmom to get his stepfather, but they are almost certainly back at the room, or close.

Emerald realizes that if anyone was going to come search the tower they'd have to come through this door... At least he thinks they would.

Emerald shuts the door quietly and makes his way down the stairs. There are doors all along here as well, but they aren't the same as he's seen above... They are all heavy, metal, and with a single, barred opening at about eye level to peer into. These are clearly cell doors.

Most seem locked or rusted shut. Either way they likely have nothing in them nor lead to anywhere that he could escape. Emerald keeps going and after a while he finally hits the bottom of the stairs.

It opens up into a room with a small raised platform in the center that have what look like candle stick holders on the corners. In the middle of the platform is a strange symbol that Emerald doesn't recognize.

>>

>>
What could be the significance of the platform? Seems like candles need to be in the holders and two things on either side.
>>

>>
>>26183497

>>
>>26183629
I'm not really thinking about it in terms of using it, it's just got a longer range and so we could better use it to keep someone at bay. I'm thinking in terms of strictly defensive use, it's better than a saw.

>>26183640
Looks like an hourglass? Something to do with time maybe? I don't know, but I'm afraid to mess with it because I don't want to play with magicks we don't understand.

Can we roll for smart-making or some shit? Try to figure out what it is?

(Last for the night.)

---

Emerald, in the present, thinks about where/if he has seen that symbol on the ground before. He knows he didn't recognize it then, but perhaps he's read something since then?

>Intelligence Check
>Rolled 4, Passed

Emerald isn't sure what it is, but he knows that it's certainly demonic, and has something to do with time... What could that room possibly have been for?

---

Emerald checks the chest on the side of the room. It appears to have ceremonial items like a censer, some small bowls, a small ritual knife, and some odd sort of wand/staff that has the same symbol as on the floor. Emerald wish hew knew what these were for.

Emerald thinks he hears voices from above. He stops and listens, and thinks he hears the jangling of armor and some voices. The colt looks for some way out of this room, and spotting a loose brick in the wall he runs over and pulls on it. It gives way to what appears to be a passage behind the wall. it's only now he notices, but this part of the wall is different from the rest, and appears thinner. Emerald paws at the bricks, but none of them are loose. He takes the bone saw and shoves it into the crack, sawing frantically as the clanging gets louder.

he definitely makes a good indentation, but as he goes the bone saw shatters and snaps.

What does Emerald do?

>>26183967

>>
>>26183967
Get the spear, and use the back end of it to butt the loose bricks out of the wall. Preferably quick. It's a weapon, if anything can withstand the impact and get the bricks out of the way, it's that.

That will probably make noise, so if we get space enough to get through, get through, and run.

You guys do realize that, if the guards do check this room, They'll notice the hole in the wall and investigate it. They'd be right on our tail.

>>26184170
break bricks then hide in chest then?
>>
>>26184170

>>26184181

>>
>>26184181
How would that hide the hole?

>>26184195
So a shut-in colt can run faster than trained guards?
>>
>>26184170
Remember when Emerald opened that door them hide under the bed to distract his mother? We could try doing the same with the wall and hiding somewhere like inside the chest, the guards would assume we went through the wall and go there, if the secret passage ends in freedom they will just assume we already escaped and maybe even stop searching around the castle so they can focus on the outside areas

Another option would be trying to put the brick back on the wall them hiding somewhere, but considering they already heard us i don't think this is going anywhere, they will likely search the room until they find us
>>
I'm afraid we are going to get caught guys.
>>
>>26184216
Where did it say that they heard us? It could just be a routine patrol.
>>
>>26184215
>So a shut-in colt can run faster than trained guards?
Yeah. We're a kid, kids are fast little fuckers, plus they're weighed down by armor.

Really, the only two options are smash the wall in and risk running, or hide in the chest.

If we hide in the chest they're going to see the mess we've made and probably investigate the room, and then find us. Really, neither of our options we've come up with so far are all that great.

>>26184258
Don't think they've heard us, but they might be looking for us
>>
Pretty sure stepmom married real dad (now ghost dad) after mom died, then demonically sacrificed/murdered real dad. No idea what happened to mom.

Stepmom did this to steal the family .. jewels, I guess, and abuse Emerald for unknown reasons. Probably just because they are jerks.

Stepdad probably the dude who planned this all.

ooOOoo0o0
this is ghost dad's theory, anyway.
He's not entirely sure how he died.
He's just sure your stepmom did it!

0000OOOooooOooo...

(Hide in chest)
>>
>>26184258
the fact that we hear voices. Normally a patrol is usually quiet. Voices mean orders are being barks.
>>
>>26183967
>but he knows that it's certainly demonic, and has something to do with time... What could that room possibly have been for?
Calling it now, Emerald's parents are working with the succubi or whoever the bad guys in this quest are, maybe there is some Harry Potter shit going on and both Emerald and Ruby's parents have something to do with this, which is why his step parents are so shit to him, there must be something related to Emerald himself
>>26184258
>Emerald's mom/some guards go check on us
>Emerald is gone
>Mother tells them to search the castle for him
Its not rocket science, also
>Emerald thinks he hears voices from above. He stops and listens, and thinks he hears the jangling of armor and some voices
>>
>>26184277
So sliding the brick back in the hole, hiding the broken saw, and then hiding ourself wouldn't get rid of the evidence?

>>26184296
So nobody has ever talked with somebody wile patrolling with them?

>>26184302
If there's no sign of our presence here than why would they stick around and search while there's an entire castle to check.
>>
>>26184335
>If there's no sign of our presence here than why would they stick around and search while there's an entire castle to check.
Because
>He takes the bone saw and shoves it into the crack, sawing frantically as the clanging gets louder.
>as the clanging gets louder
honestly, are you even paying attention to the quest?
>>
>>26183967
>>26184353
Not him, but I don't think they know we're down here. I DO think they're probably looking for us though.

'Kay, here's my idea. Pick up the broken bone saw what we can anyway, doubt we can gather up all the little fragments toss them into the hole in the wall, then put the brick back in the wall. Then, hide in the chest. and prepare to get caught
>>
This would be so much easier if we had a cardboard box.
>>
>>26184385
I still think leaving everything like that is a better idea, they will assume we either escaped through the wall or gave up and went somewhere else
>>
>>26184411
We only removed a single brick.
>>
>>26184409
And we're still a ways off from even getting the bandana from Giles, what a shame.

>>26184411
They'll only assume that if we get more bricks out, we can't squeeze through the hole we have now, and they'll know it. Plus it'll make noise
>>
