For as much as she must enjoy showing off her latest winter fashions, Rarity must not take too much vacation time this time of year. There's probably no more important season for her business than this one! Whether it's keeping ponies extra bundled up or readying them for some important holiday socials, she surely wouldn't be unavailable to assist! Plus, she can use the traffic to set up the spring line advertisting, too.
Balancing work and social concerns must be tiring, though. Summer's probably more Rarity's yearly break.

I think what season 3 did have was fine. With them rediscovering the Crystal Empire, Cadance being installed to the monarchy, and them preparing for the Equestria games. There was also an undertone of Dark Magic we see a couple times, and Twilight struggling with responsibility.
The worst part about the princess thing, is that it's treated as if it's something that -has- to happen, just because "that's what Faust would've wanted". It's treated like such an inevitability, that they just hastily squeeze it into the last episode even though many of the staff wanted more time for it.
They also don't explain any of it, just that Luna and Celestia have been going behind Twilight's back the entire time and planning this out for her. It's treated like a big mystery, but the episode just ends up being half-contributed to the problem, half contributed to the reward
