The first episode turned me off to the show so much. I just couldn't get behind the idea of Star and Marco becoming INSTANT best friends.
I don't have a problem with them being friends, that isn't the issue. They just seem to 'click' immediately. That shit doesn't fly with me. You need to build this shit up first. I realize Star is a social butterfly (lol), but Marco sure as hell wasn't. I'd be freaking the fuck out of some cute magic girl my age showed up on my doorstep asking to live with me because her royal parents kicked her out of the castle.
It might be just me, I don't know. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy that they formed a meaningful and deep friendship in such a short amount of time.

They literally retconned Marco's entire personality in the second episode but yeah, the first episode was very weak and unicorn head is a pretty bad character overall.

I know this sounds really stupid, and it goes against everything I want to see in tv shows, but if they skipped Star's backstory entirely in the first episode, and it started with her living with Marco and them having a good time just hanging out, I would have enjoyed the show a lot more. I could believe that they've been friends for a while and the process of them getting to know each other already happened, and this is the result.
