Yeah, pretty great. The style of the animation still ticks me off a little at times, not sure what it is (I think it's the movements or some of the faces), but it has improved from the earlier ones. And the rest is pretty great, I mean, basically show-style animation. If this continues, he'll be the new Jan in terms of quality (Speaking of that, nice hommage).

Of course, the voicework isn't all that great (at least on Starlight, Flash is OK) and the script is a-OK, just silly antics as usual for his stuff.

Let's hope he doesn't also meet the same fate as Jan.
>>
>>27902243
I'm getting tired on how most of the critiques are all about the animation style and how it was done. I wish it's more about the story, intent, or the purpose of the work itself. Topics about the animation skill should just be on the sidelines.
>>
>>27901408
The Dr.who and shipping at the end kinda ruined it. Still pretty nice though

Well, the animation is the easiest to criticize because it's easy to see when it's done wrong, as opposed to writing. But that's why I included the second paragraph. The voicework is OK, and I don't think there's really a lot to say about story, intent, and purpose. I could criticize some story choices, because they are inaccurate or contrived, but the intent and purpose of the video is pretty much just to be a comedic look at a possible way Starlight could have gotten the spell, so criticizing small inaccuracies or medium-sized contrivances is kinda stupid, since it's done for the joke. And spending a lot of time seriously analyzing a comedic video also misses the point somewhat, so why bother? What more do you want me to say?

Also, why should the animation skill be on the sidelines? Usually creators want to improve their skills, and the animation is by far the hardest and most time-consuming part of these videos. So why shouldn't animation style and skill be talked about when they're an integral part of the video?
>>
>>27902331
Eh, I'm just tired of youtubers inserting random references into everything just because. They all start blending together together at that point.
>>
>>27902326
>What more do you want me to say?
Say how this could be effective in showing to normie friends considering it's inside jokes or how this would be a good example of how bronies aren't all about the clop the same way weaboos do. Or how it's a bad example. Up to you.
>>
>>27902351
Because some people just want to have fun. If the animation is the main focus of the craft, the animator will get so much repercussion because hey, just like you said, it's hard. What if the animator just want to have fun and just wanna say "hey, check this out. Lol." It would be awkward if someone would just say "I see alot of flaws in your animation work and the animation isn't as consistent as I'd expect it to be. I suggest you imrpvoe your rigs that supports this certain pose, or better yet, just hand draw everything. Make sure to get background artists as well because it lacks that "painter's touch". Oh, and the story is ok." Wouldn't you agree?

wat
What does that even have to do with anything, this is a fan video, made by fans for fans, so how do people outside the fandom matter? The animation quality is the only thing I could see being relevant to outsiders, the sound and voice work as well as the writing are not really anything to make talk of themselves.

>>27902381
Well, then how about paying attention to all parts and giving them similar weight? Similar to how I mentioned the animation as well as the other parts? I understand what you mean, but outright saying the animation should be put on the sidelines is silly. I think you should say something about each part of the product based on it's quality and perceived intent. This is high-quality animation with OK sound and voices and silly writing, so the animation plays the biggest part and I think the most should be said about that. The story does its job well, so there isn't really a lot to say about that.

I'm just giving feedback on what I see in the hopes that the artist might appreciate it. Sure, I could just say "I liked this, it was fun to watch" and it would be no less true to what I think, but I consider it nice to also say what I thought about the individual parts of the product. Especially here, on a discussion board, where you are supposed to discuss things. I also need to explain why I liked it, after all.

I get that you are making more of a general statement and I definitely agree since people tend to be overly critical of fandom things, ie. not giving due weight scaled on the quality of the content like I try to advocate in my above paragraph, I'm just surprised why you respond with that to my post in particular since, as explained, I try to give fair feedback and hold the creators to appropriate standards.

Hey Slashy. Can you tell Minty "How is it that he seems fine with Brutal Weather's animations when he's incredibly nit picky for Lullaby for a Princess?"
Thanks.

Huh? I can't speak for him, but probably jealousy? I dunno.

All I'm saying is that we should give the artist a break as it is very possible that he/she just wanna chill and escape from these criticisms filed with seriousness.

Who knows, maybe all the comments artist need to gain motivation is a simple "That's awesome!"

>>27901408
Loved it. I don't even like Glim Glam, but I admit it was a really nice animation.

I wonder why people aren't talking about this more. Usually /mlp/ is all over fan animations nitpicking every single detail.

>this butthurt because someone talked about the quality of animation in a fucking animation
wew
what bothers me the most is the lack of any background music
also that this is just a It's About Time rehash, especially the first 30 seconds
what the fuck is that visual gag at 0:58 that's more off putting than anything
>dr who phone box
fuck off with that

the animation is superb but the video is boring
>>
>>27901408
BrutalWeather is better than Jan. But some people like Jan better because Jan had minecraft, HILARIOUS memes, and mandopony songs in his animations.

BrutalWeather you fucking rule, man.
>>
>>27908845
His backgrounds are amazing, it is like Minty Root with smooth animation.
>>

>I wonder why people aren't talking about this more.
Save the animators some trouble by not encouraging to make something so extensive on an already dying fandom.

By the way, Agrol has also released a new video just now: >>27909501
His animation is getting better, it's starting to look more fluid.

>>27901408
I really like the lighting, backgrounds and other visual stuff and the animation is good imo. What I also like is on how she knew to use her Twilight disguise when Flash Sentry found her. I mean, how else would she know that Twilight once met Flash one time? Through spying, as she actually did that, a nice nod to the show.

As for story continuity, consistency and etc, even though the spell here says "Requirements: Cutie Map" when Starlight Glimmer said she figured that out, it gives not so much as a retcon but rather "filling in the details to something more" as she erased the "Requirements: Cutie Map" and in the finale she was just boasting about how talented in magic she was kind of like Trixie. However it does bring up some plot holes like how would Twilight, a unicorn talented in magic, not notice the note "Requirements: Cutie Map" back in S2 Ep20: It's About Time? If she did notice it, would she not think of to investigate what this cutie map is? If it did change after that "It's About Time" how did it change?

Overall I'd give it 8.5/10.
>>
The story could have been better. He could have used the time and skill to a more memorable story rather than going for "Don't take this seriously. Just a lel so randumb thing I did when I'm bored." What a waste.
>>
>>27909721
Hard because it requires more time and VA work.
>>
>>27909721
Yeah but then people couldn't say "it's just for fun don't hate xdd"

>>27909654
I think her twilight disguise was just a default thing against all guards, not just flash. The guard had to be him of course, so that there's at least some joke.

Also I bet that latex suit over her horn must be arousing as fuck, imagine that thing exciting your nerves everytime you do magic
enhanced magical masturbation, unf

/mlp/ usually nitpicks animations that are trying to be taken seriously like Snowdrop, Lullaby for a Princess, and Dinky's Destiny. This one, while very well-made, doesn't have much to complain about because it's not trying to do anything big. It's just a short, entertaining video.
>>
>>27912138
Don't forget Double Rainboom.
>>
>>27912151
/mlp/ also got all over Jan's videos because while they weren't serious in tone, a lot of them were trying to emulate the style of the show. Double Rainboom had the same thing going on. It's not as easy to critique something when it's intended to be about as in-depth as Wile E. Coyote chasing the Roadrunner. The video's still good enough to warrant some attention, though.
>>
>>27912168
But /mlp/ tends to overwhelmingly support things that try to be stupid.
>>
>>27910050
This. The tardis was the low point of the video, but overall it was pretty good
