Literally every single ongoing TV show ever, has hiatuses.
In order to not have hiatuses, they would need to air new episodes bi-weekly, or spend 3x as much money to produce more episodes in the same amount of time.

I wish pony didn't do this mid season hiatus crap. It would be perfect if pony seasons ran from Oct through Mar weekly and then only had breaks in between seasons.
