Hi /mlp/
What do you think of the following statement?
>When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things

I think you're trying to use part of Paul's letter to the church in Corinth to make a statement that probably has nothing to do with what the text actually implies.
I think it doesn't apply to today's society
“When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
- C.S. Lewis

When I was a child, I spoke as an adult, I understood as an adult, I thought as an adult: but when I became a man, I allowed myself to experience the joys of a child.

>I put away childish things
>Like wanting to be "grown up"
It makes me feel like a disappointment.
Thanks OP

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

But C.S Lewis had a job, was aboe to provide for himself and had people respect him. I don't see how that applies to us.
>reminds me I'm a manchild that is nothing but a disapointment to my family
>reminds me that i dont go to church anymore, and that kills my family too
Thanks OP. Thats my weekend ruined.

I think that's only a portion of the original quote that is taken out of context.
