Little girls don't like MLP as much as they used to, and it doesn't have as much appeal for families or adults taking their kids
For a fact, Cars 3 is going to dominate popularity next year when it comes to animated films, even if we all know it's Pixar's weakest franchise.
However, the MLP movie does have on positive thing going for it, it's coming out in October
There is absolutely nothing else family-friendly coming out in October (right now) from any big animation studio, and the only other thing besides an animated movie that could steal childhood/family viewership are Marvel films, of which none are scheduled either.
The only downside is October is Halloween month so kids, especially the little girl market, might not be into ponies during that time, especially when Monster High exists, and i'm pretty sure they release direct-to-dvd films around october too. So of all the things that could kill the pony hype, funny enough it'd be a possible theatrical release for one of Monster High's typically direct-to-dvd films
