Or you kept them in a humid, hot place, that's the only thing that can destroy dvds.
If they are recorded right and just scratched, there existed a thing called skip doctor, dunno if you can still find it that actually works. Otherwise, you can try the old method of using toothpaste, spread it from the inside to the outside, not in circles, then once you have coevred the entire disc, wash it out, clean it with toilet paper, GENTLY, avoiding further scratches, or if you are patient, let it dry by itself for some hours.
If they still don't work it is the humidity and heat that ruined them or you simply didn't record them right.

I know that feel, happened to me in 2013, my new pone folder is at 7500 pics but a shittons of what I lost were Early season 1 pictures, including many pictures of MLPGen stuff .
